Product Insights
The Patch Pockets Pure Linen Jacket by Contemporaine offers a classic-elegant topper in 100% certified European linen with a breathtake weave, interior bound seams, and four external patch pockets that provide ample storage but add front bulk. The jacket runs small in the body and wide in the shoulders, with long sleeves; buyers often size up for a slouchy fit, though this affects length and shoulder fit, while petite buyers may need hemming. Made from rain-fed, mechanical-processed Master of FLAX FIBRE™ linen that softens over time and shrinks less than 3%, it is breathable for hot weather, substantial for cool days, and versatile as a buttoned shirt-jacket or open topper. Canadian-designed and European Flax-certified, it is priced at $125 CAD (sale at $69.95) for a durable, sustainable wardrobe staple.

Deep Research
How to style a boxy linen shirt jacket
- The design’s casual nature means it looks equally natural buttoned as a standalone shirt-jacket or worn open as a lightweight topper — a versatility that doubles the outfit permutations from one piece.
- The shirt collar and boxy shape blunt the formality of a dress, making a floral or slip dress feel instantly more approachable when the jacket is thrown on and paired with sneakers — a styling trick that makes it a practical grab for outdoor events and weekend errands.
- The thick washed European linen weave bridges spring and summer seamlessly — it has enough body for cooler mornings worn over a long-sleeve, yet the natural breathability of flax keeps it from feeling heavy when temperatures rise.
- Full-length buttons and a deliberately oversize cut let the jacket hang open like a relaxed topper, a look that works especially well with a tucked-in patterned shirt and straight-leg jeans for a put-together but unfussy weekend uniform.
The Contemporaine brand and Canadian design story
- The brand's 'edited modern fashion' descriptor, used across Simons' own navigation, signals a curated design philosophy that distills contemporary trends into wearable staples — this jacket's clean lines, collar, and patch pockets reflect that edit-first approach.
- Journalistic coverage slots Contemporaine as delivering 'classic elegance,' distinct from Simons' youth-oriented Twik and the young-professional urbanite brand Icone — a positioning that centers this jacket on enduring style and quality rather than of-the-moment trends.
- Contemporaine was launched by Donald Simons in the 1960s alongside Twik and Le 31, specifically targeting women aged 30 to 40 with a focus on refined, lasting style — a demographic positioning that explains why this jacket uses pure, durable linen and a clean silhouette rather than chasing seasonal trends.
- CEO Peter Simons has publicly stated the company's effort to feature Canadians 'from the art adorning the spaces to the items stocked on shelves,' lending the 'designed in Canada' tag on this Contemporaine jacket institutional weight — it's a deliberate investment in local talent, not a marketing claim.
- Carrying both the Masters of FLAX FIBRE™ certification for certified European linen and Simons' Vision label (which requires circular or 50%+ reduced-impact production), this jacket moves Contemporaine into environmentally conscious territory without abandoning its natural-fabric roots — appealing to buyers who value transparency in material sourcing.
What the Masters of FLAX FIBRE™ certification means
- Flax in Western Europe is typically grown without irrigation, relying solely on natural rainfall — meaning this jacket's fabric required virtually no added water during cultivation, a distinction that makes it a significantly lower-impact choice compared to water-intensive cotton alternatives found in many casual wardrobes.
- Between 2020 and 2025, demand for the certification surged by over 800%, reaching 1,595 certified companies worldwide — a trajectory that positions Masters of FLAX FIBRE as the emerging global standard for trusted linen, and means this jacket fits into a widespread industry shift rather than a niche eco-offering.
- The entire conversion from harvested plant to spinnable fiber — a process called scutching — uses no chemicals, preserving the flax's intrinsic waxes and lignin; for the wearer, this means the jacket's linen softens and gains character with use rather than degrading or stiffening over time.
- The linen in this jacket originates from the coastal flax belt of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, where the maritime climate and alluvial soils naturally produce fibers with superior length and strength — a geographic advantage that directly underpins the thick, durable hand of the washed linen weave described in the product listing.
- The agricultural standard mandates that every part of the flax plant be utilized — long fibers for textiles, short fibers and shive for paper or composites, seeds for linseed oil — so this jacket participates in a production system where no harvest material is discarded, a full-use philosophy that deepens its sustainability story.
- Masters of FLAX FIBRE is the mandatory raw-material prerequisite for the higher-tier Masters of LINEN label, which additionally certifies European spinning and weaving; while this jacket does not carry that more demanding mark, its linen meets the same agricultural and origin criteria that feed into Europe's most esteemed mills, giving it a fiber-level pedigree equivalent to far more expensive garments.
- Every step of the supply chain — from scutching mill to finished cut-and-sew product — is subject to annual independent audits by Bureau Veritas, so the 'certified European linen' claim on the tag is not a brand self-declaration but a verified, traceable statement that a buyer can trust.
Simons Vision program and eco-badges
- The Masters of FLAX FIBRE™ linen carries European Flax certification, which guarantees that the flax is grown in Europe without irrigation — relying solely on rainfall — and without GMOs or synthetic agrichemicals; the result for this jacket is a fiber that sequesters carbon during cultivation and significantly reduces the water footprint at the raw-material stage compared to conventional cotton or irrigated flax.
- To earn the Vision badge, a product must come from a circular production process or contain at least 50% reduced-impact materials versus its conventional counterpart — for this jacket, the European Flax certification and water-conscious linen processing push it over that threshold, placing it among the exclusive collections Simons aims to have 90% Vision-compliant by end of 2024.

Such a great jacket
I love navy blue and this linen jacket is awesome. It is not too short (I'm 5'7) and can easily be worn as a top. I like my clothes loose fitting in the heat so got an xl
Too casual
Item was not as elevated as I expected based on reviews. Returned.
Pratique
Petite veste pratique et intemporelle. Elle est confortable ! Je suis une fan du lin !! Si vous hésitez entre deux tailles, je vous suggère la plus petite.

Pure Linen Jacket
Beautiful fabric, navy colour perfect. Sleeves too long, petite size would have been preferable. Two sets of pockets a bit overkill.

La grandeur est exacte et elle est belle…
Awkward fit - at least in larger sizes
I was looking forward to this item and expecting a loose, boxy fit. I bought an XL per my measurements. The biggest problem is that the shoulders are too wide. The other issue is that the torso length ends at the widest part of my hips and is too short to tuck into the matching shorts like some of the models do, but too long to pass for "cropped. " The sleeves are baggy and the armholes very wide at the shoulder so lifting my arms lifts the entire thing halfway to my bra. The fabric and colour are beautiful, though, and the matching shorts fit me better. I can still style it purely as an unbuttoned jacket, so I think I will keep, but I am disappointed.
Trop grand
La qualité du tissus est très bonne mais la veste était trop large sur tout au niveau des épaules et des bras.

Fits slightly tight.

Tissu de grande qualité
Je suis impressionnée sur la qualité du tissus. Belle tombée.
Nice Linen Jacket
I love this jacket. Nice to have a light cool summer jacket that is not a jean jacket. I’m sure it will get lots of use. Very nice quality linen. All the inside seams are finished very nicely with binding tape. Lots of pockets with 4 outside and 2 inside.

Great Jacket
I purchased this for an upcoming holiday to be smarter than a Jean jacket but just as practical. I’ve not washed it yet but it’s a great piece that’s super stylish. I upsized from the L to the XL because the L just felt a bit too snug especially if I was wearing a belt. The XL “hangs” clear of my hips/belt but still looks tailored.

Q&A
3 answered- How does the boxy cut fit compared to standard sizing? Should I size down if I prefer a less oversized look?
- This jacket is designed with a boxy cut [1], so it intentionally fits more loosely than standard sizing. If you prefer a less oversized look, sizing down could work, but keep in mind that a smaller size may be shorter in length and tighter in the shoulders. For a closer fit without sacrificing comfort, we recommend staying with your usual size and styling it with layering in mind.
- What is the weight or thickness of the linen fabric? Is it suitable for transitional weather or just warm summer days?
- The product is described as having a 'thick and durable washed linen weave' [1], which indicates a medium-weight fabric suitable for transitional weather. It can be worn comfortably in spring and fall, not just warm summer days. The linen is substantial enough to hold its shape while still being breathable.
- Since it's pure linen, has the fabric been pre-washed to minimize shrinkage? How much shrinkage can I expect after washing?
- Yes, the linen has been pre-washed (the product listing notes a 'washed linen weave' [1]), which helps minimize shrinkage. Washed linen typically shrinks very little—usually less than 3%—if cared for properly. To further reduce any risk, we recommend washing in cold water and air drying.
