Men's sandals from Simons

Low key, low profile, and low maintenance—sandals, flip-flops, and slides are the ultimate summer footwear. They can be put on or taken off in seconds, thrown into a suitcase without adding any weight, and easily rinsed off to look as good as new again. But sandals are not only utilitarian: they can be a fun addition to your look book and a great way to round out that casual summertime ensemble. After all, you may like to switch into "off mode" with some downtime at the beach or pool, but your style statement is always on.

Flip-flop or slide?

Our sandal selection comes in two main flavours: flip-flop and slide. Flip-flops, the modern descendant of the Japanese geta, are sometimes referred to as "thongs" because of the way the two straps meet together between the first two toes. They're light, accessible, and non-slip. Slides, on the other hand, have a single broad strap that goes over the top of the foot. They usually come with more padding than flip-flops, which makes them suitable as a casual walking shoe. Adilette by adidas is the ultimate slide; an iconic poolside piece that has become a fashion mainstay since its debut in 1972.

Fitting a flip-flop

Sandals, flip-flops, and slides can be thrown on or kicked off at your leisure, but there are several factors to consider when it comes to choosing the right size. The whole foot should fit on the sole without the need to bend any toes. Similarly, the rear edge should be at least one centimetre from the ball of the foot for better stability—but bear in mind that flip-flops are not as rigid as shoes, and so will likely expand after the first few uses. On the topside, the entire vamp (or straps) should be in contact with the foot to maximize comfort.
