Marie Côté

Montreal, Quebec

Marie Côté has been a potter and sculptor for more than 35 years. Trained in the fine arts with distinction at Concordia University in Montreal, she quickly turned towards ceramics and perfected her art in England and Western Canada. The complex connection that links an object to the space it inhabits fascinates her, and her work illustrates how every shape is born out of emptiness. Over the years, the artist expanded her horizons beyond shape and space into the realm of sound and music. Her creations are a testimony to this intrinsic relationship that links them their environment, from their hollow forms that reverberate sound to the clay they're made of, formed in the Champlain sea more than 10,000 years ago, all the way down to the patience, discipline, and sensible care the artist shows while crafting them.
