Over the years, the cabbage family (also known as Brassicas) has played a great role in Laurence Deschamps-Léger's fascination with the plant world. In this lively work, the artist, a champion of biodiversity, has illustrated 14 colourful varieties that can be found at our local farmers' markets, all identified in small print. All but two are part of the Brassica oleacea family! Those in the know will have noticed the intruders: the Napa cabbage and bok choy, members of the Asian Brassica rapas family that have now become commonplace in our kitchens.
