Thermoball™ Traction V Mule Slippers Women
The North Face Thermoball Traction V Mule Slippers are women's slip-on insulated mule slippers featuring a quilted recycled polyester upper, cotton fleece lining, and Primaloft Thermoball Eco synthetic insulation. Designed for casual indoor comfort, house slipper use, apres-ski, and quick dry-weather errands, they include a foldable elastic heelpiece, padded footbed, and non-skid rubber outsole. They lack arch support and are not waterproof, making them unsuitable for wet or snowy conditions.

Product Insights
The North Face Thermoball Traction V Mule Slippers are packable travel slippers that blend indoor comfort with outdoor utility, earning a 4.6-star rating for their collapsible heel, which enables easy slip-on in the dark and stays secure when upright, while also helping regulate warmth across a 40°F-to-high-50s range. Their ThermoBall Eco insulation—made from recycled P.E.T. and developed with PrimaLoft—retains loft and warmth when damp, and the rubber outsole grips icy pavement, packed snow, and slick floors. The core tradeoff is fit and moisture: the collar entry is small and hard for wide feet, the flat footbed lacks arch support (pain emerges around three miles), sizing varies (one US 9.5–10 buyer took a 9 while others size up), and the water-resistant upper is not waterproof, so socks are required to avoid quick dampness, especially because the fleece shell traps moisture rather than wicking. Priced at 95 CAD and backed by a limited lifetime warranty on the shell, these mules excel as packable companions for camp, après-ski, and recovery duty—but they are the lowest warmth tier in The North Face's lineup, suit 40°F-to-high-50s conditions, and are not meant for deep winter, long walks, or wet slush without careful maintenance.
Verified claims
- Sizing
- Sizing lacks a single true-to-size: a US 9.5–10 buyer took a 9, while community feedback recommends going up.
- Collar entry
- Buyers report the collar opening is small and hard to enter, especially with wide feet.
- Entry ease
- Several buyers report the small collar opening makes the promised easy slip-on a struggle.
- Collapsible heel
- Testers found the folded-down heel slipped on easily in the dark, and the upright heel held the foot securely.
- Temperature regulation
- Buyers report heel-down mode warms toes without overheating.
- Warmth rating
- Lowest of The North Face's 3 warmth tiers — camp or après-ski warmth, not deep winter.
- Temperature range
- Performs best between 40°F and the high 50s; collapsible heel helps regulate outside that range.
- Damp performance
- Insulation maintains loft when damp, but the upper is only water-resistant, not waterproof.
- Sock requirement
- Buyers report feet get wet quickly if worn barefoot, so use with socks.
- Traction
- Rubber outsole grips icy pavement, packed snow, slushy sidewalks, slick floors and damp ground; it is not intended as a hiking boot.
- Packability
- Packs flat for travel and bounces back, holding loft without the re-fluffing down booties need.
- Warmth when damp
- ThermoBall insulation retains warmth even if the upper gets wet.
- Water resistance
- Upper is water-resistant, not waterproof; DWR sheds light rain, but slush and standing water soak through.
- Materials
- ThermoBall Eco fill and ripstop upper are 100% recycled P.E.T.; the fill is a synthetic cluster developed with PrimaLoft.
- Breathability
- Barefoot wearers report damp feet quickly without socks, and testers found feet sweaty and clammy at a 69°F indoor thermostat.
- DWR upkeep
- Non-PFC DWR fades with sunscreen, oil, and detergent; refresh it with an eco-friendly spray and spot-wash, air-dry.
- Travel use
- Buyers report one packed pair can cover camp, après-ski, and recovery-shoe duty.
- Support
- The flat footbed lacks arch support; testers felt arch pain around the 3-mile mark.
- Cleaning
- Not machine-washable; spot-wash and air-dry, removing dirt promptly to keep the upper from decaying.
- Durability
- North Face's limited lifetime warranty backs the shell, which keeps its shape and loft when packed flat.
- Lineage
- V generation descends from The North Face classic Tent Mule, the original off-grid base-camp slip-on.
- Insulation
- ThermoBall Eco clusters keep loft when damp and do not collapse the way down would; rated lowest of three warmth tiers.
- Care
- The recycled ripstop upper carries a limited lifetime warranty; clean by spot-washing and air-drying, not machine washing.
- Size availability
- Black and White are both stocked in sizes 6–10; size 11 is White only.
- Home use
- Buyers use these as comfortable house slippers and packable travel slippers.
- Outdoor use
- Buyers wear these for dry outdoor errands, camping, and après-ski, but they lack support for long walks.
- Sizing vs North Face footwear
- Compared with other North Face footwear, these slippers tend to run small, so buyers should consider a size larger than their usual North Face shoe size.
- Width fit
- They run average to roomy in width rather than narrow, with enough toe-box space to wiggle toes; they run small in length, so sizing up is safer than trying to fix narrowness.
- Break-in period
- No break-in period: the side gores and collapsible heel are roomy and comfortable from the first wear, though barefoot or thin-sock wearers may want to size down for a snugger slide-in fit.

Great for apres but not for slush
I have the thermoball mulesa which are great for apres , hanging at the lodge, and walking back to the parking lot. They haven't failed me so far in the northeast(I've had them for about 4 -5 yrs now), but I can see if there's tons of slush how you would be in a world of hurt.

Warm, cozy, daily driver but flat sole
I’m wearing my thermoball traction mule V everyday since I’ve got them and they’re absolutely amazing. Warm, fluffy, cozy. Since they have a proper sole I’m wearing them to run errands (shop, post-office etc) as well. They’re not great for longer periods of time as they’re flat and offer no support but I’m still planning on getting another pair when these are done for.(definitely not soon, they’re made well)

Not for wet conditions, lack support
they are comfortable and a decent wear in the right conditions. i mostly use them on days when it's dry cold conditions driving around town and quick outings and they've been fine. ice, snow, slush? probably not a good idea. they would not be ideal as a winter boot replacement because they're not waterproof, they don't have much structure and for prolonged use they don't offer much support. they're more in the category of uggs; even though people wear uggs as a winter boot it doesn't make sense as flat and unstructured as they are people develop foot issues with them as they pronate inwards and they soak in water and salt.

Thermoball vs Nuptse insulation
I like my nuptse slippers, found out they had real down in them! Thermoball I believe has a synthetic insulation. Down is better as long as it stays dry in terms of warmth and weight.
