Product Insights
Natural Chic Artisanal Rug from Simons Maison is a hand-knotted New Zealand wool rug with felted loops that create a suede-like hand, firm cushion, and natural abrash variegations. Its uncut loops resist crushing and the repairable structure lasts 50–100 years. Natural lanolin repels spills and keeps colors true, while the wool regulates humidity and insulates warmth and quiet. At $298, it offers long-term value. Practical tradeoffs: low pile (0.25–0.5 in) fits under doors but requires a rug pad to minimize shedding and prevent slipping, and vacuuming must be on suction-only mode following the pile direction. Monthly rotation and professional cleaning every 3–5 years maintain its beauty. Available in three precise sizes.
Verified claims
- Sensory experience
- Felted loops yield suede-like hand, firm cushion, crisp variegations, natural abrash bands, and warmth.
- Durability
- Uncut loops resist crushing and the latex-free hand-knotted structure can be repaired, lasts decades.
- Care
- Vacuum on suction-only setting; avoid beater bar. The 0.25–0.5 in pile is easy to vacuum and clears standard door clearance.
- Color
- Natural lanolin and white fleece make spills bead up and colors stay true.
- Indoor climate
- Regulates humidity, resists allergens, and insulates warmth and quiet.
- Value
- At $298, this hand-knotted wool rug lasts 50–100 years due to repairable knots and springy wool.
- Abrash
- Subtle variegations are abrash, a hallmark of hand-knotted rugs.
- Vacuuming
- Vacuum with suction only, always following the pile's natural direction, to prevent irreversible damage.
- Rug pad
- Use a rug pad to cushion footfall, reduce shedding, and prevent slipping.
- Cleaning
- Blot spills immediately (lanolin repels), vacuum edges and under furniture regularly, rotate to disrupt moth habitat, and schedule professional cleaning every 3–5 years.
- Wool quality
- New Zealand wool offers natural stain resistance, humidity control, and color purity.
- Pile
- Medium pile (0.25–0.5 in) suits door clearance; felted wool adds warmth and pile springs back from compression.
- Construction
- Hand-knotted felted wool loops resist crushing, enabling 50–100 year lifespan.
- Sizing
- Offered in 150x245 cm, 245x305 cm, and 275x365 cm to anchor seating or dining layouts without overwhelming the floor plan.
- Backing
- The wool pile is woven directly through to the back, mirroring the front pattern with no latex or synthetic backing.
- Color accuracy
- Buyers frequently say the assorted beige colorway arrives lighter and more cream than product photos suggest, with flecks of grey and brown.
- Softness
- Buyers repeatedly describe the rug as soft and comfortable underfoot, even for bare feet.
- Shedding and pilling
- Several owners report visible wool shedding or pilling, especially early on, while others say shedding stays minimal.

Grounding a large living room with a neutral, natural-texture rug
For anchoring a spacious living or dining area, especially over wood floors, where the rug's pale cream tone, artisan looped texture, and neutral palette are reported to complement light, modern decor with a high-end look. Note that customer reviews report the actual rug is consistently lighter than the website photos, so color-matching matters before buying. Per the merchant, it's best suited to low-traffic areas and paired with a rug pad for safety.[1]
A cozy spot for barefoot lounging
With its thick woven wool pile, this rug offers a soft, cozy surface that reviewers enjoy sitting or stretching out on — a fit for barefoot areas like living rooms and bedrooms. Some reviewers report the wool sheds and pills, especially with vacuuming, pets, or heavy foot traffic, and loose fibers may need trimming.[1]
Product comparison
Compared within this brand.
| Natural Chic Artisanal Rug See Available Sizes: Choose this if you want a handmade, hand-knotted rug in 100% New Zealand wool with a chunky looped, pebble-like texture and a soft, cozy feel underfoot — reviewers highlight its comfort for barefoot spaces like living rooms and bedrooms and its neutral design for grounding spacious rooms on wood floors. Note that it is delicate and prone to pilling: shedding is significant, especially in the first weeks, so the merchant recommends a low-traffic spot, vacuuming without a brush roll, and a rug pad for safety, and some reviewers question long-term durability with pets or heavy traffic. Also expect the true cream/off-white color to look paler and cooler in person than the website photos.[1,2] | Winding Contrast Wool Artisanal Rug See Available Sizes: Choose this if you want a handwoven, low-pile area rug with a highly textured monochromatic pattern — carved concentric arcs and ribbed lines in a uniform cream/ivory base — made of 90% wool and 10% cotton for indoor spaces. It comes in four sizes (150x230, 185x275, 245x305, and 275x365 cm) across Light Grey, Off White, and Ivory/Cream Beige, and a rug pad is recommended for greater safety. Be aware that some customer reviews report heavy fiber shedding that vacuuming does not stop, and the patterned weave can trap dirt that takes extra effort to clean, with a temporary unpacking odor that fades over time.[3,4,5] | Herringbone-Stripe Wool Artisanal Rug See Available Sizes: Choose this if you want a handmade, tufted wool rug (70% wool, 30% cotton) with a subtle cream-beige herringbone pattern that reviewers report looks true to its photos and feels plush underfoot for bedrooms or living rooms. It comes in three sizes (150 x 240, 240 x 300, and 270 x 360 centimeters) in Grey or Off White, with a low-pile, ribbed weave and cotton back. Be aware that shedding was reported—including one buyer who returned it—so expect frequent vacuuming, and plan on a separate non-slip pad on hard floors, which Simons also recommends for safety.[6,7] |

Bon rapport qualité-prix
Beau tapis, belle apparence. Doux et chaud sous les pieds. Livraison rapide. Très satisfait.
Beautiful in colour
It’s nice detail rug. Just sheds wool most times
Tapis
Tel que sur la photo. Très doux pour les pieds
Excellent
Great quality
Great quality for a really good price compared to what else is out there. It didn't have a smell per other reviews and it came with silica gel. It is on the thicker side so it might foul doors.
Super!!!!
un de mes meilleur achat!!!
Shed excessively
I looked at the online review but no one mentioned it. It was indeed very chic; I love the texture and look. But from the get go, it shared excessively. I will have a big ball of fluff a few times a day. It slows down after a while but it is still pretty excessive. Maybe it is just mine? Not aure

Absolute perfection!
I am beyond thrilled with this soft, wool area rug. The colour and texture are perfect and I am amazed by the price given the quality. It has tied my whole room together for fall.
Really nice
Beautiful, high quality rug.
Simply elegant
I originally got the small one but after it being in the space I returned it and got the biggest one. The rug is stunning, it’s soft on your feet, amazing quality and I’m so happy with it. Great product and a great price too!

Great rug, super soft and exactly what I was hoping for. Unfortunately it is quite smelly. We've being airing it out and spraying with febreeze for two weeks and it still has a strong musty smell.

Magnifique tapis!
Bien représenté sur la photo. Très doux. Comble bien l’espace!
Gorgeous, but sheds
This rug is stunning and worth the price. However, the wool pills/sheds as others have said.
Amazing
Love this rug. Beautiful and great quality. The shipping is hard though. Recommend you use a company that gives people windows for arrival as it is a deterrent to ordering for delivery!
Beau tapis

It’s beautiful. I ordered because my sister had one too and they’re so nice.
Loved the rug - just bought another one.
Didn’t realize Simons sold rugs. Came across this rug by happenstance. It’s a great neutral soft rug at a good price. Just bought another one as I loved it so much!
Magnifique!
Tapis
Vraiment très beau, produit de qualité. Merci

Beautiful quality and soft underfoot
This is a very good value for a wool rug. Using it without a rug pad and it is soft underfoot. The colours were difficult to predict from the website and I had difficulty deciding between the assorted beige and off-white. Went with assorted beige as I thought it would be more practical. Good decision. It is a neutral blend that is easy to fit into a wide range of colour schemes. Some loose fibres shedding but not excessive.
Good quality, good price
Comment about transport. I ordered a tablecloth, placemats and a carpet on the same order. They arrived quickly and in good condition. BUT…they arrived in Mont-Tremblant in two different trucks, about one hour apart. Mont Tremblant is about 125 km from Montréal. It might be a good idea for the planet if such orders were shipped together.
Really great
At first, I was worried the dark grey was too dark, so I ordered another rug to layer on top. But by the time the other rug arrived, I had fallen in love with the calming, clean look of it
Nice rug but smells awful
It looks good, it feels good, it smells like a sour sheep.

Lighter colour than shown
The "assorted beige" colour is definitely lighter than the photo on the website suggests. Thank you to the other reviewers who mentioned this, leading me to take a chance! The rug is mostly cream coloured, with flecks of grey and brown. It's what I hoped for. The quality of the rug seems very good - nice and soft, and seems well finished. I'm very pleased with this purchase.
Nice but colour is off
This is a nice rug, especially from afar. My issue with this rug is that it’s a bit more yellow toned than I was anticipating. They are also quite a few pieces of wood an other items in the carpet. Seems to be well made otherwise. I decided to return
Beautiful wool rug at a reasonable price
I debated this rug for a long time before purchasing, as I was concerned about only seeing 2 photos online before making such a large purchase. Fortunately the other reviews were very helpful. I wanted a light coloured rug but with enough colour variation to camouflage dirt or stains (2 young kids!) I bought the "assorted beige" rug and am very happy with the colours; it does appear lighter in person. (Simons - please add more photos or at least have one in store to see!) I love the neutrality of the rug, it has some warmth to it and would go with any beige/grey decor. It's nice and soft. A bit thinner than other wool rugs that I compared it to in person, but more affordable price. No weird smell. Can't comment yet on shedding or durability.
Great value
Feels and looks like a quality rug. Comparable to the EQ3 Jasper rug but at a way better price.
love it
I bought this rug in grey in the larger size and I'm very happy with it. It's very well made and sturdy, and I love that it's made out of natural undyed felted wool. It's soft and comfortable on the feet and it looks beautiful in the room. For the quality and size the price is quite fair. I'm so glad I took a chance on this one. It's exactly what I was looking for!

Never received item and unable to track with provided link. Not good Simon’s!
Simplement magnifique!
Confortable, doux et esthétiquement parfait! On l’adore!
12x9 natural colour rug recommend it!
This rug exceeded our expectations. It’s beautiful and soft under foot.
Great Look and Feel!
Very happy with this purchase. It looks very qualitative. The colour is exactly like on picture. Would highly recommend

Delayed delivery
Was asked to provide feedback but I haven’t actually received the rug. Delivery notice says delay but no further information has been provided and I have no idea when it will be delivered.

Inaccurate color on biege rug
Lovely rug, great quality, very soft. The main issue is that the photos are too filtered and do not represent the true colors. This rug is light cream primarily. The photos make it look much darker and ashier. It's a shame because you have no way of seeing the rug in store or anything to get an idea of what it looks like, and it's very hard to re-package the rug to return if it's no good. Be aware. Simons, one extra photo showing the true color of the rug would be massively helpful.

Exactly as the photo
Colours are warm and quality seems great. No shedding or pilling
Looks nice
Love the look but the fibres are already coming lose from vacuuming. I've had it less than a month and can already see myself needing to trim lose fibres in the near future, for the price I expected a bit better quality. Probably won't last long.

Good quality
We just received our two area rugs. They are good quality, a good price and it was a quick delivery. The colour was accurate.
Très beau tapis.
Très beau tapis.
Wool Rug
Very good quality wool rug.
Nice rug, decent price
This is a nice looking rug, good quality and at a decent price. I agree with some of the other reviews that say the photos don't quite show its full look, making it a bit risky to order considering you're paying shipping costs on both ends. This is my first time ordering from Simon's and I was impressed overall.
