Petal Party Lace High-Apex Bralette
The Petal Party Lace High-Apex Bralette by Free People is a wireless, unpadded bralette made from a stretch nylon blend with lace and fishnet detailing. It features high-apex cups, wide straps, and a scalloped floral lace design, offering light support with a soft, natural shape. Primarily intended for casual or loungewear, reviews indicate it may not provide adequate support for larger busts and recommend sizing carefully due to potential shrinkage after washing.

Product Insights
The Petal Party Lace High-Apex Bralette from Free People promises a lightweight, moisture-wicking, shape-retaining visible layer for warm weather, but its delicate nylon-elastane lace requires hand washing and flat drying to avoid shrinkage, offers no adjustability with fixed straps, and provides light support best suited for A to C cups while costing more than comparable bralettes from Aerie.
Verified claims
- Support
- Buyers confirm it works for A–C but fails for D+ busts.
- Moisture wicking
- Nylon-elastane blend wicks moisture and dries quickly.
- Aerie comparison
- Aerie bralettes offer more customizable support than this fixed design.
- Adjustability
- Straps are fixed and cannot be adjusted or converted to a racerback.
- Longevity
- Buyers report shrinkage after washing, inconsistent quality, and lace snagging; elastane retains shape.
- Break-in feel
- Initial scratchiness resolves after washing, though lace can feel scratchy.
- Comfort
- Nylon blend feels cool, wicks moisture, and dries quickly.
- Wash behavior
- Shape memory maintains fit, but machine washing risks shrinkage.
- Care requirements
- Requires hand washing and flat drying to maintain fit and appearance.
- Initial quality
- Buyers report loose threads and scratchiness that softens after washing.
- Material performance
- The nylon-elastane blend holds its shape after stretching and dries quickly.
- Styling versatility
- High-apex design functions as a visible fashion layer under square-neck or deep-V tops and as outerwear.
- Design
- Unpadded cups reduce bulk under sheer tops but increase show-through, and no J-hook limits styling options.
- Fit and shape durability
- Elastane blend maintains high-apex neckline shape after washing, and the unpadded cups are best suited for A–C cups.
- Coverage
- Buyers report visible nipple show-through through the unpadded sheer lace cups.
- Lace durability
- Lace snagging may enlarge lace openings, increasing sheerness over time.
- Value
- Costs 50% more than Aerie's lace bralettes but offers less support and adjustability.
- Quality and care
- Reports of loose threads, shrinkage, and lace snagging require delicate care.
- Fabric feel
- Nylon lining is cool and quick-drying but lace can feel scratchy initially.
- Target use
- Best for A-C cup sizes as a visible layer for casual warm-weather wear.
- Moisture management
- The nylon lining actively wicks sweat away from the skin for quick evaporation.
- Care and break-in
- Hand washing in cold water prevents shrinkage and softens the initially scratchy fabric.
- Fit and intended use
- Light support, no padding: best for layering, not for primary bra use.

Deep Research
How the nylon-elastane blend feels in warm weather
- Nylon is inherently cooler and silkier than polyester, meaning this bralette feels noticeably smooth and crisp at first touch — a quality often preferred in warm-weather lingerie where a cooling sensation against the skin can offset heat buildup.
- With 7% elastane in the shell and 16% in the lining, this bralette resists bagging and maintains a consistent fit through repeated stretching — crucial for a wireless design where fabric elasticity, not underwire, provides light hold.
- Nylon absorbs only 2–4% of its weight in water, so this bralette dries quickly when damp and resists clinging — a practical comfort advantage over cotton lingerie that can remain heavy with perspiration.
- The 84% nylon / 16% elastane lining draws sweat away from the skin to the fabric surface, speeding evaporation and keeping the bralette comfortable during humid commutes or outdoor festivals — a performance characteristic common in synthetic activewear but delivered here in a delicate lace style.
What high-apex means and who it flatters
- The bralette's wide, set-apart straps keep the neckline clean and are positioned to peek out or remain hidden depending on styling, making the Petal Party versatile as a concealed foundation under boat necks or as an exposed detail under off-the-shoulder silhouettes.
- Built with wireless, unpadded cups that follow the high-apex geometry, the Petal Party relies on cup depth rather than underwire for shape, so it delivers a natural, lounge-level fit best suited to A–C cup sizes where the fabric can drape smoothly without cutting in at the bust apex.
- A shell of 93% nylon / 7% elastane paired with a lining that contains 16% elastane gives the high-apex bralette enough memory to maintain its angular neckline shape after wear without compression, which is why the piece reads as a soft drape rather than a tight bandeau.
- The stretch nylon and fishnet front panel aligns precisely with the high-apex neckline so the decorative lace becomes a deliberate style element rather than hidden lingerie — this bralette is engineered to be shown under sheer fabrics, low-cut tops, or open layering pieces.
How it compares to other lace bralettes
- Alternative Aerie option the Wonder Lace Padded Bralette (also under $40) adds padding and split strap detail for a more structured, covered fit — a clear contrast to the Petal Party's unpadded wireless cup and light support, which suits wearers who want minimal bulk and a natural shape under sheer or low-cut tops.
- The Aerie Romantic Lace Plunge Bralette (regularly under $40) offers removable padding and a J-hook for racerback conversion — practical features that the Petal Party omits — making the Aerie the go-to for adjustable support and multi-strap styling, while the Petal Party's high-apex lace and fishnet overlay appeal to those who prioritize a fashion-first silhouette over utility.
- The Petal Party's high-apex construction — where the strap attachment sits high on the chest near the collarbone — gives it a distinct frame that works under square-neck or deep-V tops and reads more like a contemporary crop top, whereas Aerie’s popular plunge bralettes (Romantic Lace, Wonder Lace) use a center-front plunge shape that stays hidden under lower necklines but lacks the same architectural presence.

Q&A
6 answered- What are the exact fabric percentages (nylon and spandex) in the stretch nylon blend?
- The shell is 93% nylon and 7% elastane, and the lining is 84% nylon and 16% elastane [1].
- How much does the bralette typically shrink after the first wash, and is it recommended to hand wash or machine wash cold to minimize shrinkage?
- Community reports indicate notable shrinkage after washing [1]. To minimize shrinkage, we recommend hand washing in cold water and laying flat to dry, as stated in the care instructions. Machine washing cold is not advised and may still cause shrinkage.
- Is the lace overlay likely to snag or run over time with regular wear, and does it hold up to machine washing?
- The lace overlay may snag over time with regular wear, and machine washing could exacerbate this. The care instructions recommend hand washing and hanging to dry to preserve the fabric. To maintain the lace, avoid machine washing and harsh handling [1].
- Does this bralette offer enough support for D+ cups?
- Generally no; multiple users with larger busts reported insufficient support, thin fabric, and a lack of an underband.
- Is the Free People bralette from FabFitFun good quality?
- Quality is inconsistent; some found it scratchy with loose threads and shrinkage, while a few found it comfortable after washing.
- Is it worth the price?
- Many felt it was overpriced for the quality, especially compared to brands like Aerie.

DD cup user nervous about support and padding
I’m happy to see this and I’ll probably give it a try, but I’m also super nervous about it because my breasts (DD cup) don’t always cooperate with bralettes. Edit: I watched the video a second time, and it looks like there’s very little padding, and I don’t usually like to nip through. I mayyyyy still get this and wear it out casually this summer, but I’ll be doing research.

User criticizes quality, support, and compares to Aerie
I owned a bunch of free people bralettes that I have parted ways with for this reason. I stayed away from this option because to me, the quality has never been great with their bralettes and they are expensive for the quality, and don’t offer much support for larger chest sizes. Aerie makes better quality bralettes! That’s been my go to over the last year. I’m sorry this option didn’t pan out for you!
