Product Insights
Contemporaine's Coloured Denim A-Line Skirt (CAD 99) delivers eco-consciousness through 98% organic cotton, 91% water savings, and chemical-free processing, yet buyers must navigate a lumpy fabric that demands ironing and careful styling to avoid an evangelical or frumpy look. Its 30-inch length varies by height, and while stretch denim offers all-day comfort, the heavy material is warm in cool weather but too stiff for summer. True to size and priced at $69.95 on sale, it provides low-cost entry into a fleeting trend that resurfaces every 6–8 years, balancing sustainability with tradeoffs in texture, seasonality, and longevity.
Verified claims
- Cultural association
- Buyers report evangelical connotation, which fitted tops and slits can modernize.
- Brand heritage
- Contemporaine, a Canadian brand launched in the 1960s with a 50-person in-house design team.
- Material
- 98% organic cotton, 2% elastane denim with stretch and 91% water savings.
- Value
- Sale price $69.95 offers low-cost entry into a trend that may fade quickly.
- Length
- Buyers describe the 30-inch length as mid-calf at 5'4, above-ankle for tall, and maxi-length on 5'1.
- Fit
- Buyers report the skirt runs true to size and the stretch makes it comfortable for all-day sitting.
- Lumpiness
- Buyers report the denim fabric appears lumpy and needs ironing to look crisp.
- Seasonal performance
- Heavy denim is warm on cool days but too stiff and hot for summer.
- Fabric feel
- The stretch denim gives mobility but the fabric can appear lumpy without careful care.
- Texture
- The lumpy appearance is an intentional garment-washed texture, not a defect.
- Softness
- Chemical-free processing preserves organic cotton's natural softness.
- Fabric quality
- Breathable organic cotton denim retains fiber strength with cold wash care.

- Long denim skirts resurface every 6–8 years but rarely sustain popularity.
- Fabric trade-offs
- Stretch denim adds flexibility but may wrinkle lumpy; hollow-fiber organic cotton aids breathability.
- Care regimen
- Machine wash cold and hang dry preserve the skirt's color and prevent the lumpy fabric look.
- Color appearance
- Garment-washed brown appears lumpier and less saturated than photos, averaging 4.4 stars.
- Care instructions
- Machine wash cold and hang dry to preserve look; iron low to smooth.

Bonne grandeur, elle fait très bien.
Great denim skirt
Like the material weight and the length of the skirt. Long midi on 5ft 4
Underwhelming
I really like brown denim, but it feels and looks like someone washed it and didn't iron it properly. For the price, I was expectly a more polished fabric that was nice and smooth with nice clean french seams. Although soft, this fabric is lumpy.

Tissus épais. Belle couleur.

Fabric too heavy for short people and gives evangelical vibe
such a heavy stiff fabric in a maxi at 5’1” will really make you look so small and like an evangelical teenager

Denim skirts hard to pull off, gives evangelical look
I think they’re hard to pull off - with the right fit and styling it works but this look is giving evangelical to me.

Long denim skirts didn't last before, Duggar-esque
I remember the last time long denim skirts were in and they didn't last long. I personally think it's sort of a Duggar-esque look and not one I'm keen to get on board with this time around.

Stop bringing back long denim skirts every few years
Omg STOP BRINGING THESE BACK. I swear they try to get back ‘in style’ every 6-8 years. Just stop it already 😂

Denim skirts difficult to style, look Pentecostal
While I like them in theory, denim skirts are difficult to style, at least for me. The last one I owned was back in middle school; it was about knee length and I was told it made me look like a Pentecostal lol.
