Product Insights
The Momeni Adobe rug is a hand-tufted wool-and-jute piece with geometric patterns derived from Southwestern desert and adobe architecture. Its 0.25-inch pile and precision hand-tufting keep motifs sharp and resist matting, while dye and weave variations give each rug unique character that develops over time. Warm underfoot due to wool's heat retention, it offers decades-long performance if properly maintained: vacuum without beater bar, blot spills with dry wool-safe foam, professionally cold-water wash every 18–24 months, never steam, use a rug pad to prevent latex backing cracking and jute fraying, and rotate twice-yearly. Initial shedding is noticeable but slows over time; adhesive degradation may increase shedding after years. The jute-wool blend creates a raw, nubby texture that becomes more pronounced with age, but the rug is not suitable for high-traffic areas due to jute's fragility. With a rug pad extending lifespan 30–50%, buyers report 10–20 years of use, though low pile and latex backing add stability.

Momeni rug shedding and quality
I really like Momeni rugs—I’ve used them for years. They are not a Target specific brand. The brand is offered at many US retailers. The Momeni rugs I have do shed especially at first. The shedding does slow time with time.

Positive experience with used Momeni rug
For what it's worth, I bought the rug for $100. It was clearly much higher quality than the $750 synthetic Wayfair rug we're replacing. I took it home & vacuumed it. It was both softer & actually seemed to give up dirt & dust better. The seller said it was under his pool table for 20 years. I'm guessing he's exaggerating a little but it's in great shape even if it's 10 years old. When you combine the price of the rug we're replacing (that didn't even last a year before getting pretty stained & gross looking), I guess I may still have gotten a bargain considering this rug at this size retails for over $1k.
