Product Insights
Calvin Klein's Intense Power trunks offer a streamlined, discreet fit under slim trousers with a silky-soft microfiber that wicks moisture, a wide non-roll waistband, and a double-layer front for abrasion resistance and durability, all constructed from 88% reprocessed polyester with 12% spandex for stretch recovery. However, the new version is tighter in the groin, causing soreness with extended wear, and the prominent logo waistband polarizes buyers; alternatives like CK Steel or modal are recommended for comfort, while the $80/3-pack price is about 50% higher than Cotton Stretch.
Verified claims

Deep Research
Value for money vs. similar options
- Compared to a true premium brief like CDLP’s Boxer Brief at $45 per pair, the Intense Power’s per-trunk cost ($21.50 at full retail, or less than $11 on sale) keeps the Calvin Klein designer identity and the distinct wide waistband silhouette accessible at a fraction of Scandi-luxury pricing.
- Where CK’s standard cotton boxer briefs are built from a 95% cotton 5% spandex blend that traps moisture, the Intense Power’s polyester-blend microfibre is finished with an active moisture-wicking treatment — a functional edge that adds off-the-body performance value for humid commutes, travel, or light activity without sacrificing the soft, silky hand feel.
- At a US list price of $64.50 for three trunks ($21.50 each), the Intense Power line sits a clear tier above Calvin Klein’s bestselling Cotton Stretch briefs — a 5-pack running $72 (or $14.40 per pair) in a 95% cotton, 5% spandex fabric — so the premium directly buys into a moisture-wicking microfibre and a more fashion-forward silhouette.
- At 80 CAD for three pairs, the Canadian retail price effectively mirrors the US MSRP, but since Calvin Klein’s US site routinely advertises these trunks at 35%–50% off, a cross-border buyer stacking an additional cart discount can land the same pack for under 45 CAD — a gap that repositions the value from ‘premium daily staple’ to ‘steal-of-the-month.’
- Calvin Klein’s own US website frequently chops 35%–50% off Intense Power packs — to $41.92 or even $32.25 — which drives per-trunk cost as low as $10.75 and undercuts the full retail of the brand’s cotton staples, making it a value play for anyone willing to wait for a promotion.
Purpose of the double-layered front
- The second layer doubles the material thickness at the front — the area most scraped by zippers and rough denim — directly countering the tendency of thin synthetic trunks to develop holes and micro-tears after repeated contact.
- Instead of a sewn-in contour pouch, the double-layered front provides a supportive lift that reduces movement and the nuisance of constant adjustment — a setup that works especially well in a low-rise trunk where the waistband provides less anchoring.
- The double layer provides the support of a contoured pouch but with a flatter, less structured profile that stays smooth under slim trousers — a key asset for a 'classic fit' meant to disappear under clothing.
Recycled polyester microfiber: breathability and feel
- Each trunk in this 3-pack is made with at least 85% certified recycled microfiber polyester — a high recycled-material threshold for premium underwear that directly diverts plastic waste from landfill and appeals to buyers who want sustainability without giving up the performance traits of synthetic fiber.
- The ultra-fine fibers of the microfiber create a silk-like tactile finish that cuts friction against the skin and outer clothing — combined with the trunk’s streamlined seams, this makes the 2-inch inseam style especially comfortable under slim-fit trousers or during extended wear in warm conditions.
- A plant-derived wicking finish — rather than a standard synthetic chemical — actively moves moisture away from the skin, delivering sweat management that is equally functional but aligns with the trunk’s recycled-content story; the finish helps keep the wearer dry during warm days or light activity without relying on petrochemical treatments.
Recycled polyester and sustainability
- Calvin Klein declares the recycled microfiber polyester as 'certified' (the Singapore site specifies 'at least 85% certified recycled'), providing third-party verification that sets this product apart from uncertified recycled claims common in fast fashion.
- The recycled polyester is produced by reprocessing existing materials, diverting potential waste into a soft, functional microfibre — a process that reduces the need for virgin resource extraction.
- The fabric is an 88/12 blend of recycled polyester and elastane, meaning the synthetic component is entirely recycled — a spec that directly reduces the garment's reliance on virgin petroleum-derived polyester.

Q&A
3 answered- Does the wide elastic waistband tend to roll or lose elasticity over time with regular wear and washing?
- The wide elastic waistband on these trunks is designed to be non-rolling and generally stays flat with regular wear and washing. Community feedback on older versions highlights this feature positively, though elasticity can naturally degrade over time with repeated washing and drying. We haven't seen widespread complaints about premature loss of elasticity in the waistband.
- Are the new Intense Power trunks tighter than the old ones?
- Yes, many users find the redesigned version significantly tighter, especially in the groin, with less room than older pairs.
- What is a good alternative to the new Intense Power trunks?
- CK Steel or CK modal trunks are frequently recommended as they offer a similar or better fit with soft fabrics.
Reddit Insights
4 threads · r/malefashionadvice, r/mensunderwearguideReddit users appreciate the wide, non-rolling waistband and soft microfiber of older Intense Power trunks, but many complain that recent redesigns made the pouch too tight and the fit overly restrictive.
Positive notes on durability, waistband, and material contrast with strong negative feedback on the new tighter pouch and inconsistency.

Watch Out For
Compared To
vs CK Steel trunks
Considered the closest replacement for the old Intense Power fit; very soft and comfortable but with a metallic waistband.
vs Hanes SuperSoft bamboo viscose briefs
Offers a deeper pouch and softer support, but waistband quality is lower.
vs Tommy Hilfiger briefs
Decent quality with a better pouch than new Intense Power, but not a perfect replacement.

CK Intense Power line overview: big waistband, decent comfort but flashy
CK intense power (big, bold waistband + calvin klein logo in the center) - softness stays between CK bold and CK iron strength, WALKING CK ADVERTISEMENT, get it if you want others to know that you wear CK because the waist band is so big the entire world will see it. otherwise a decent pair of underwear. 8/10.

Intense Power praised for wide non-rolling waistband and durability
Intense Power were a personal favorite for a while. The waistband seems obnoxious wide but they'll never roll on you! Their cotton stretch briefs are nice, too. Wearing those in white today, actually.

New Intense Power trunks are tighter; switched to CK Steel
I've been wearing the Intense Power trunks for years now. Brought a new 3 pack a few months ago in my normal size (medium) and they were so tight around the groin they were actually causing me to get sore after wearing them for a few hours. Figured I'd try a large in the same style and while it made an improvement, they still have less room in the front than what my older pairs do. I've since switched out to the 'Steel' branded CK trunks and they're pretty close to the same fit that the Intense Power used to be.

New intense power low-rise trunks are too tight; recommends modal or CK Black
I have had those intense power low-rise trunks for years and loved them. Now you all got the new ones, and they are so tight it's redonk. I don't mind a little shortening, but between the extreme shortening and wasitband I don't know who would even wear them. I went into a CK store and asked about this, and they recommended the modal ones as a replacement. I asked about CK Black, which I haven't heard of before, mostly because I liked the waistband better, and they said the fit is like the modals, not the new intense power. So I just bought a few packs during the sale. Not bad! I would say the shape is between the old and new intense powers, but the materils is really luxe feeling, and despite being synthetic, it's forgiving. I don't know if this is helpful to anyone here, but I've been trying to find a replacement for a while, and other brands just don't look like what I want with either the pouches or little logos or whatever. Try the modals or the CK blacks, and they might be at least closer to the old fit.
