Blundstone 1306 Contoured-Toe Chelsea Boots for men are slip-on ankle boots with a rugged leather upper, genuine leather lining, and a removable EVA footbed with XRD technology in the heel cup. They are designed for everyday casual wear, commuting in wet weather, and light outdoor activities, with a waterproof construction and a non-skid TPU outsole, though they offer limited traction on ice. Key specifications include a polyurethane midsole, steel shank for stability, and side elastics with front/rear pull loops; reviewers note that sizing may require adjustment and that the soles are not resoleable.

Product Insights
The Blundstone Contoured-Toe 1306 Chelsea Boots offer a dressier chisel-toe silhouette that pairs with suits and jeans, with a patina that deepens over wear. The core promise is versatile style and reliable wet-weather performance, but the tradeoff is a non-resoleable sole that limits longevity to roughly five years, virtually no ice traction, and a fit that requires careful sizing: half sizes add instep volume rather than length, and sizing down a full size risks unresolved pain. Buyers also note that the leather upper does not stretch and waterproofing is effective only until saturation, while conditioning with beeswax/lanolin is needed to prevent cracking.
- Silhouette
Chisel toe and slim silhouette make it dressier than round-toe Blundstones.
Why this is supported
Blundstone's Dress Series designates the #1306 as having a leaner silhouette and leather lining. Allingtons describes its shape as
the ultimate in refinement.
allingtons.com.auand Blundstone itself calls it
the ultimate in rustic refinement.
blundstone.com.au. The squared chisel toe is the key differentiator from round-toe work boots, making it dressier and more appropriate for business casual.
- Wardrobe versatility
Designed to pair with both suits and jeans, confirmed by buyers.
Why this is supported
Blundstone's design brief states the boot should
go perfectly with a suit, or with jeans, on weekdays or weekends.
blundstone.com.auAllingtons adds:
The rustic brown leather upper gives it a down to earth appeal that goes perfectly with a suit, or with jeans, on weekdays or weekends.
allingtons.com.auReddit buyers confirm the versatility in everyday wear, noting the boot goes with many pants and can be dressed up or down.
- Instep sizing
Half sizes add instep volume, not length.
Why this is supported
A verified buyer on Reddit explains:
I would suggest to go with a 9, unless you have a relatively high instep. The half sizes in blundstones add more space on the instep, and a tiny bit more on the sides as a result.
u/Bermersher in r/BlundstoneBootsBlundstone's official sizing guidance echoes this, noting that
Typically go with your regular US size or half size down; half sizes add instep room rather than length, and trying on is recommended.
How should I size Blundstone 1306s?Therefore, half sizes are specifically beneficial for high insteps, and trying on is strongly suggested.
- Sizing down risk
Sizing down a full size can cause unresolved pain, unlike the relaxed fit from the leather lining.
Why this is supported
A buyer who sized down a full size reported:
Tried and still hurt after weeks of wear on and off due to the pain.
u/CliffRed20 in r/malefashionadviceThis indicates that a boot that is too tight may not break in. By contrast, Blundstone states that the leather lining provides a comfortable start:
With leather lining for comfort, these boots have a relaxed fit from the get go.
blundstone.com.auSo initial comfort is key, and sizing down risks persistent pain. Additionally, customer support for sizing issues may be limited; as a different buyer noted:
Blundstone customer support didn't have much help.
u/CliffRed20 in r/malefashionadviceTherefore, it may be better to seek help from the retailer.

Why this is supported
Reddit users warn that the break-in narrative does not apply:
Great boots but don't buy into the"wear them in" narrative.
u/CliffRed20 in r/malefashionadviceThis is because the leather upper does not stretch during wear. Additionally, half sizes alter instep volume rather than length:
The half sizes in blundstones add more space on the instep
u/Bermersher in r/BlundstoneBootsSo correct initial sizing is critical; those with high insteps may benefit from half sizes, while normal insteps may size down.
- Sole
Sole is non-resoleable and unsafe once worn to foam; hydrolysis risk from storage.
Why this is supported
The boot's cushioning comfort is tied to the sole; once the TPU tread wears through to the foam, the boots become unsafe. A user notes:
With the heel worn through to the foam and the tread gone they were just getting dangerous to wear.
u/Vtepes in r/BlundstoneBootsAdditionally, the soles are non-resoleable:

- Waterproofing
Buyers report feet remaining dry in rain until the leather upper saturates, aided by a leak-free direct-injected sole.

To prevent leather drying and cracking, community advice emphasizes regular conditioning. A care guide specifically recommends:

- Resoleability
Buyers report that worn tread ends boot life; sole is non-resoleable.
Why this is supported
The directly injected TPU outsole cannot be replaced, making the boot's lifespan dependent on the outsole condition. A five-year owner review illustrates this:
With the heel worn through to the foam and the tread gone they were just getting dangerous to wear.
u/Vtepes in r/BlundstoneBootsThe reviewer notes the uppers remained in great shape, but the boot was finished due to the irreplaceable sole.
- Manufacturing origin
Buyers report boots are made in Vietnam; Tasmania pull-tab text is heritage branding.
Why this is supported
The pull tabs on Blundstone 1306 boots display 'TASMANIA AUSTRALIA', but community sources indicate the boots are actually manufactured in Vietnam. For instance, a Reddit comment states,
all of these are made in Australia rather than the Blundstones which are made in Vietnam I think.
u/Theod0ric in r/BuyItForLifeThis comment highlights the discrepancy. The Tasmania text is understood as a heritage branding reference rather than current origin.
- Australian alternatives
Buyers report Redback boots as an Australian-made alternative to Blundstone.
Why this is supported
Buyers who prioritize Australian-made boots often consider alternatives. One Reddit user suggests,
If you like the style you should consider redback boots as an alternative, they are made of thicker leather and have more cushioning (if you like that).
u/Theod0ric in r/BuyItForLifeThis positions Redback as a durable Australian-made option.

Sizing Challenges and 'Wear Them In' Myth
100% agree. Was told to size down a bit, bought two pairs that were 0.5 and 1 full size smaller than my normal. Full size was sent back and half size seemed to kinda fit, but needed to be stretched a little. The product info on their website says wear them a while to get them worn in. Tried and still hurt after weeks of wear on and off due to the pain. Got them stretched at a cobbler. Still pain. Blundstone customer support didn't have much help. But they wouldn't replaced them as I had gotten them from Zappos. Luckily Zappos replaced them with no questions asked. New ones are my everyday wear. Great boots but don't buy into the"wear them in" narrative. Other work boots like red wings definitely get worn in. Blundstones are comfy but don't wear in as well.

Alternatives to Blundstones: Redback and Resoling Issues
They aren’t easily resoled, but they will generally last pretty well. If you like the style you should consider redback boots as an alternative, they are made of thicker leather and have more cushioning (if you like that). There are also mongrel and Rossi boots, all of these are made in Australia rather than the Blundstones which are made in Vietnam I think.

Blundstones vs. Meermin: Waterproof but Poor on Ice
I have loved my blundstones many times more than my GYW shoes for rain. In my experience even high quality welted shoes will wet through the welt eventually. The blundstones are totally waterproof (until the leather soaks through). I’m about to retire mine after 9 years of hard wear. That said, they’re definitely more rain boots than snow and ice. The sole is not good for grip on ice. Though they make a model with a more aggressive sole for cold weather.

5-Year Durability Review: Comfortable but Soles Wear Out
These realistically needed to be replaced more near the start of the year but they were just so damn comfortable. Without hesitation I would say these were worn at least 80% each year before I decided to replace them. With the heel worn through to the foam and the tread gone they were just getting dangerous to wear. It's really too bad because the uppers are still in great shape.
