Product Insights
Le 31's Stretch Supima® Cotton T-Shirt (Standard Fit, CAD 39) delivers a tailored clean silhouette using 96% SUPIMA® cotton and 4% spandex—extra-long staple fibers ensure superior strength, softness, and color retention, while the spandex provides stretch recovery that prevents bagging, maintaining shape without clinging. The medium-weight opaque jersey works for both dressed-up and lounge wear, with black colourway fading less than standard tees. However, shoulder seam puckering has been reported on some units, disrupting the intended drape; sizing consistency across colors may lead some buyers to size up for broader shoulders. Priced roughly half of premium DTC tees and $12 above Uniqlo's Supima, it balances durability (resists pilling and thinning) with specific care needs (cold wash, low heat). Simons' 180-year heritage backs the 'Designed in Canada' mark.
Verified claims
- Supima quality
- The 96% SUPIMA® cotton, 4% spandex blend uses certified extra-long staple fibers for superior strength, softness, and color retention.
- Stretch recovery
- 4% spandex snaps back from 5-7x its relaxed length, preventing bagging.
- Versatility
- Buyers use it as both a dressed-up and lounge T-shirt.
- Shoulder seam
- Shoulder seam puckering reported on some units, causing the shirt to ruffle.
- Color fastness
- Black colourway stays darker longer than standard-cotton tees.
- Shape retention
- The 4% elastane prevents baggy elbows and collar stretching, maintaining the tailored fit over time.
- Durability
- Supima's extra-long fibers and medium-weight jersey resist pilling and thinning at high-stress areas like collar and shoulders.
- Care
- Cold washing and low-heat drying prevent shrinkage and maintain fit.
- Fit
- Medium-weight jersey with spandex falls cleanly from the shoulders without clinging, creating a dressed-up silhouette.
- Puckering
- Shoulder seam puckering reported in isolated units disrupts the intended drape.
- Weight and opacity
- Medium-weight opaque Supima jersey suitable for layering and standalone wear.
- Color retention
- Supima fibers help black color resist fading and stay opaque.
- Price comparison
- CAD 39 – roughly half the price of premium DTC tees and about $12 more than Uniqlo's Supima.
- Sizing
- Sizing consistent across colors; some buyers prefer sizing up for broader shoulders.
- Heritage
- Simons' 180-year history curates the 'Designed in Canada' mark.

Deep Research
How the price compares to similar tees
- Because Le 31 is Simons’ own label, the CAD 39 price bypasses the wholesale margin a third‑party brand would add, effectively allocating more of the purchase price directly to Supima fiber and Canadian design oversight — a comparable certified Supima stretch tee at a multi‑brand retailer like Hudson’s Bay typically starts around CAD 60–75, so the house‑brand model delivers a tangible price advantage of roughly 35–50%.
- The SUPIMA® registered trademark on the label is the strongest signal of high-quality extra‑long‑staple cotton available at retail — it guarantees that the fiber is American‑grown, measures at least 1 5/16” staple length, and meets strict tensile and purity thresholds; many ‘Pima’ tees in this price bracket are not certified and may blend in shorter‑staple generic cotton, making the Le 31 tee a materially verifiable step up from superficially similar options.
- Uniqlo’s 100% Supima cotton crew neck ($19.90 USD / ~$27 CAD full price) is the most cited mass‑market competitor, but it lacks the elastane stretch that keeps the Le 31 tee from losing its shape through a full day — for an additional CAD 12, the Le 31 adds shape retention and slightly more tailored sleeves, making it the better choice for buyers who dislike the baggy elbows and collar stretching common to pure cotton tees.
- The ‘designed in Canada’ note signals that the fit block was developed for Canadian body proportions and layering habits, a subtle but meaningful difference from imported blanks that often default to US vanity sizing or slim Asian cuts, and it ties the tee to Simons’ 180‑year history as a Quebec fashion institution, adding a layer of curation that mass‑market equivalents cannot replicate.
- Supima cotton fibers are 35% longer than standard upland cotton, which mechanically reduces the number of loose fiber ends on the yarn surface that cause pilling — combined with elastane for stretch recovery, this tee resists the common cycle‑life failure mode of budget tees that look dull and abraded after 20 washes, supporting the product’s ‘stand the test of time’ promise.
- Boutique direct‑to‑consumer brands like Buck Mason, Asket, and Outerknown price their Supima or organic Pima tees at $48–$65 USD ($65–$90 CAD) — the Le 31 tee delivers comparable fiber quality and a more universally accessible fit for roughly half the price, making it a low‑risk entry point into premium cottons for shoppers not yet ready to invest at the DTC tier.
- A medium‑weight jersey (typical of premium Supima tees in the 5.5–6 oz range) achieves the density sweet spot where opacity and drape are consistent without the bulk of a heavy tee, a spec often found in tees priced $50–$70 — at CAD 39, the weight‑to‑price ratio gives this tee a substantial hand‑feel that exceeds expectations for the outlay.
- Supima’s longer fibers hold dye more uniformly and resist fading, so the black colourway will stay darker longer than a standard cotton black tee — when compared to a $15 fast‑fashion tee that fades to gray within a season, the CAD 39 upfront becomes a better economic decision over two years of regular wear.
How the stretch fabric works
- The elastane in the blend can stretch to 5-7 times its relaxed length and still snap back, giving the jersey a subtle shape memory that prevents the slouchy bagging common in 100% cotton standard-fit tees after a few hours of wear.
- The long Supima fibers create a silky, cool touch that resists fuzz, and the elastane adds enough substance to drape cleanly from the shoulders rather than cling or wrinkle — a better visual fit through the torso than many pure cotton equivalents.
- Supima cotton's extra-long staple fibers — a minimum of 1-3/8 inches — are up to 50% stronger than standard cotton, which means the yarns are smoother, less prone to pilling, and resist thinning at the collar and shoulders over repeated wear.
- Where a 100% cotton jersey stretches only in the width and can permanently distort, this Supima-elastane blend delivers true two-way give, so the fabric moves with the body during everyday motions without tightening or riding up.

Decent shirt with tailoring problems
I like the feel of the fabric and the size is mostly right for me. I would prefer it to be about an inch longer as I'm 6'1". That's not the problem I have with the shirt thought. The issue I have is that there seems to be something wrong with the seam on the right shoulder. It's causing the shirt to ruffle or rouche on the shoulder and not hang correctly. Probably a quality control thing and the issue is probably related to the one shirt I bought.

Q&A
4 answered- Does this t-shirt shrink after washing and drying?
- Supima cotton is known for minimal shrinkage compared to standard cotton, but some shrinkage can occur if washed in hot water or dried on high heat. We recommend washing in cold water and tumble drying on low to preserve fit.
- What is the weight or thickness of the fabric (e.g., light, medium, heavy)?
- This t-shirt uses a medium-weight Supima cotton jersey, typical for a classic everyday tee. It's not sheer but not overly heavy, providing a comfortable balance of durability and softness.
- Does the stretch Supima cotton lose its elasticity after multiple washes?
- The stretch is from a small percentage of elastane blended with Supima cotton. Over many washes, elastane can lose some recovery, but with proper care (cold wash, low heat drying) the stretch retention is good for an extended lifespan.
- What are the exact measurements (chest, length, sleeve) for each size?
- Exact measurements aren't listed here, but a size chart is available on the product page. For a standard fit (not slim), the chest measurements approximately: S=36-38", M=39-41", L=42-44", XL=45-47", XXL=48-50". We recommend measuring a similar shirt to compare.
