Indigo Easy Guy Selvedge Jean Tapered Fit
This product is a pair of Naked & Famous Denim Easy Guy tapered-fit jeans, made in Canada from authentic raw Japanese 12 oz. selvedge denim with a deep indigo pigment, ochre topstitching, a button fly, and a five-pocket design. The denim includes stretch cotton for added comfort. Based on user feedback, the fit runs small and sizing up is recommended, but the fabric is praised for developing attractive fades over time, making these jeans suitable for regular casual wear.

Product Insights
The Indigo Easy Guy Selvedge Jean tapered fit from Naked & Famous Denim targets athletic builds with a 12.25-inch thigh and 11.75-inch rise, combining a sharp taper with 2% elastane for comfort without compromising fade development — it yields sharp honeycomb and stacking fades like rigid selvedge. Sanforized and 12 oz, it offers a gentle break-in and faster shape retention than raw denim, while the ochre topstitching becomes more prominent as the indigo fades. Priced at 215 CAD and made in Canada, it undercuts Japan Blue by $100. The main tradeoff is the button fly, which slows fastening compared to a zipper, and sizing: buyers with slim legs should size down, athletic builds size up. Initial indigo crocking stains light surfaces but fades after several wears, and the jean forgoes hidden rivets for a clean look but retains selvedge ID and heritage styling.

Deep Research
Styling the Easy Guy tapered fit
- The red-line selvedge ID becomes a deliberate detail when the hem is rolled twice — on the Easy Guy's 6.25-inch opening, the cuff stays flat and close to the ankle, adding a structural horizontal line that anchors the taper and works best with low-profile canvas sneakers or loafers.
- The button fly — a feature of pre-zipper workwear — exposes a subtle row of buttons when the top block is visible, which adds an authentic vintage punctuation mark that works particularly well with tucked-in chambray or denim shirts.
- The heavy crocking of raw indigo in the first weeks means the Easy Guy will transfer blue onto light sneakers, furniture, and hands — many raw denim enthusiasts treat this as a rite of passage, but pairing the jeans with dark leather boots or using a single cuff to keep the hem off shoes eliminates the risk while the dye sets.
- Wearing the Easy Guy at its natural waist (11.75-inch front rise) shifts the visual waistline upward, elongating the leg for men with shorter torsos — the taper then continues that line uninterrupted, making the overall look taller and more balanced than a low-rise slim jean.
- The ochre thread that seams the deep indigo creates a visible break that draws the eye downward — when cuffed, the ochre line adds a vintage railroad-stripe effect that lightens the visual weight of the lower half, compensating for the dark wash's tendency to look heavy.
- With a 12.25-inch thigh measurement in size 30 and a higher rise, the Easy Guy is purpose-built for men whose legs fill out slimmer cuts — the room relieves the 'sausage casing' effect while the sharp taper from knee to hem keeps the silhouette clean rather than baggy.
- The 6.25-inch hem on a size 30 sits narrow enough to avoid dragging under sneakers but wide enough to easily slip over Red Wing Iron Ranger or Viberg Service Boot shafts, making it the rare tapered jean that transitions from sneakers to boots without stacking awkwardly.
Fading potential and care for raw selvedge
- The deep indigo pigment starts at a near-black saturation level and fades to bright white on the exposed weft, so high-wear zones like the thighs and rear will eventually reveal a dramatic contrast that makes the fade pattern especially visible even from a distance.
- Unlike unsanforized raw denim that must be soaked before wear to set the fit, the sanforized fabric can be worn immediately from the raw state — meaning every day of wear from day one builds toward the final fade, and the 1–3% shrinkage after first wash is predictable enough to not disrupt the accumulated creases.
- Weighing only 12 oz., the denim breaks in noticeably faster than the 14–16 oz. raw denims that define the heritage market, and the resulting fades skew softer and more 'vintage' rather than the razor-sharp high-contrast lines of heavyweight fabrics — making this pair an accessible introduction to raw denim that still develops distinct wear marks.
- The stretch content (typically 1–2% elastane) softens the denim's natural rigidity, so the creases around the hips, knees, and ankles form less acutely; expect a more blended, watercolor-like fade rather than surgical creases, though starching the jeans during break-in can temporarily restore stiffness to push contrast.
- To lock in defined high-contrast fades, the first wash should be delayed until at least 6 months of effective wear so that indigo loss concentrates exclusively at stress points before any overall lightening; when washing becomes necessary, a cold soak or gentle cycle with no detergent, inside-out, preserves the indigo pattern and protects the stretch fibers.
- Unlike the fading indigo, the ochre-colored thread on the seams remains its golden tone permanently; as the denim around it lightens over months of wear, the topstitching progressively stands out, adding a dynamic visual accent that tracks the jean's aging.
How these jeans compare to other raw selvedge brands
- APC's iconic Petit Standard cut runs notoriously slim through the seat and thigh, requiring many buyers to size down two or more for a 'spray-on' fit—where the N&F Easy Guy provides a genuine tapered silhouette with mid-rise roominess that accommodates thighs without the sizing gymnastics, making it the pragmatic choice for anyone who finds the French cut constrictive.
- Japan Blue typically deploys heavier 14–15 oz unsanforized Japanese selvedge, heritage construction touches like hidden rivets and raised belt loops, and a price often crossing $250 USD; the N&F Easy Guy trades those traditionalist details for a lighter 12 oz weight, stretch, and a more accessible price, effectively positioning itself as the comfort-oriented younger sibling in the raw selvedge family.
- Unbranded Brand, also founded by N&F's Brandon Svarc, delivers Japanese selvedge at roughly half the price ($80–100 USD) but achieves that by omitting Canadian production, branded hardware, and the variety of N&F's proprietary fabrics; the Easy Guy thus buys into the same fabric sourcing mentality but with the extra detail and domestic construction that enthusiasts often view as the line between 'starter raw' and 'proper selvedge'.
- Unlike most raw selvedge jeans in the $150–200 USD band—including Unbranded Brand (Macau), APC (Macau/China), and Nudie (Tunisia/Italy)—Naked & Famous cuts and sews its jeans in Canada, which at this price is a direct transfer of what would be a logistics or quality-upsell in competitor offerings into a baseline production standard.
- Nudie positions raw selvedge within its sustainable ethos with free repairs and organic cotton, but its fits skew toward the very slim (Lean Dean) or tapered-slim (Grim Tim), with mid-rise roomy-taper options like the Easy Guy notably absent; the N&F cut fills a gap in the market for a true athletic tapered raw with stretch that doesn't require immediate alteration or compromise on a relaxed top block.
- At 12 oz with elastane, the Easy Guy is noticeably lighter and more forgiving than the rigid 14.5 oz selvedge of Unbranded Brand’s standard models or the 14 oz denim of many Nudie raw jeans, yielding a lower break-in penalty and a fit that holds its shape through the day—a crucial differentiator for buyers accustomed to stretch who might otherwise find raw selvedge impractical.
The blend of stretch and selvedge denim
- Naked & Famous adds only the minimum elastane needed to take the bite out of rigid raw denim — just enough to ease the break-in and reduce blowout risk in a tapered silhouette — while keeping the cotton yarns tight enough that the denim still creases sharply for wallet and whisker fades instead of stretching into formlessness.
- The low elastane content means the cotton takes the dye and wear pressure as usual; community fade examples show that stretch Easy Guys develop honeycombs and stacking fades that are sharp and vintage-like, not the soft-wash marbling that higher-stretch jeans often produce, so the stretch never relegates the jean to a ‘dad jean’ aesthetic.
- Even though the denim contains elastane, it is still woven on narrow shuttle looms that produce the self-finished seam with a ticker stripe — cuffed, the jeans display the telltale clean edge that instantly signals genuine selvedge to fellow denim enthusiasts, maintaining the ‘club’ feel of raw denim while delivering unexpected stretch comfort.

Canadian made selvedge jeans
Great japanese fabrics and Canadian craftsmanship from a Montreal brand. Easy guy usually requires you to go 1-2 sizes down from your usual.
Fit is off
Really wanted to love these but just finding them ok. Maybe as they age it will improve. Sizing is very loose. I’m 34in all day (at 5’10 and 180lbs) these are ok in wait a bit loose but they do not stay in place. Constantly have to adjust. I know baggier jeans are back but these are just a bit too baggy in thighs. I washed early and they shrunk up a bit but still not the best fitting jean. I wanted to try selvedge and a Made in Canada option was really nice but I’m still a DUER fan. Quality seems good but only time will confirm that. So far I don’t get the selvedge denim hype.
I will wear these forever
Best jeans I’ve ever worn. Great fit, high quality. I had forgotten what really good denim is like.
Parfait.
Jeans classique avec denim japonais parfait. Seul bémol des boutons en guise de fermeture éclair.
Q&A
7 answered- What are the exact waist, thigh, and rise measurements for each tagged size (28-36), and do they correspond to standard sizing or run smaller?
- Measurements for the Easy Guy fit (non-stretch version) from a retailer size chart: for size 28, waist 15″ (30″ full), thigh 11.5″, front rise 11.25″; for size 30, waist 16″ (32″ full), thigh 12.25″, front rise 11.75″; for size 32, waist 17″ (34″ full), thigh 12.75″, front rise 12″; for size 34, waist 18″ (36″ full), thigh 13.25″, front rise 12.25″; for size 36, waist 19″ (38″ full), thigh 13.5″, front rise 12.5″ [1]. The stretch version of this jean may differ slightly, but community feedback indicates sizing runs small and you should consider sizing up for a comfortable fit.
- How much stretch and recovery does the 12 oz. selvedge stretch denim offer, and will the waist stretch out significantly with wear?
- The 12 oz. selvedge stretch denim contains a small percentage of elastane (typically 1–2%) for comfort, but the stretch is limited. Community feedback notes that these jeans will not stretch significantly with wear, so if they feel tight initially, it's best to size up. Expect minimal waist stretch—roughly half an inch—with limited recovery.
- Is the raw denim one-wash or completely untreated, and what is the expected shrinkage after the first soak or wash?
- This raw denim is sanforized (pre-shrunk) and completely untreated, meaning it will shrink only about 1–3% after the first cold wash and hang dry [1][2]. It is not one-washed, so you'll need to account for minimal shrinkage in your sizing decision.
- What are the thigh and leg opening measurements for the Easy Guy fit compared to the Weird Guy and True Guy fits?
- For the Easy Guy fit, thigh measurements range from 11.5″ (size 28) to 13.5″ (size 36), and leg openings from 6″ to 7.75″ [1]. The Weird Guy fit is slimmer throughout—tighter in the thigh with a narrower leg opening—while the True Guy fit offers a roomier top block and a straight or slightly tapered leg. Community feedback confirms Weird Guy fits even tighter than Easy Guy, and True Guy is recommended if you need more space.
- Does the deep indigo dye have significant crocking or color transfer that might stain light-colored furniture or shoes?
- Yes, the deep indigo dye on raw selvedge denim will crock (transfer color) significantly, especially when new. Expect some dye to rub off onto light-colored furniture, shoes, or other clothing during the first several wears. We recommend wearing these jeans with dark items initially and avoiding contact with light porous surfaces.
- Will these jeans stretch?
- They won't stretch much; if they're tight initially, size up.
- How do they fade?
- They develop nice fades with regular wear.

Fit feedback: too tight, size up
I think these are a bit too tight. IMO I would try a size up! They're really pulling at the waist and that's not going to stretch the amount that you want. If they're ball-crushing you now, that's also likely a rise issue and can be an indicator that this fit isn't for you.
