Product Insights
The Fellow Stagg Ekg Pro Wooden Handle Electric Kettle is a precision pour-over tool with a gooseneck spout delivering slow laminar flow, a weighted handle for stability, and temperature control within ±0.5°F via PID and firmware-upgradeable features like Guide Mode, brew timer, and altitude compensation. However, its slow flow rate frustrates tea brewing and high-agitation techniques, and reliability concerns—heating element failures within 2–3 years, a short 1-year warranty, and unhelpful out-of-warranty customer support—undermine its value at $280 CAD.
Verified claims
- Durability
- Buyers report heating element and temperature sensor failures within 2–3 years
- Design
- Gooseneck spout with elongated tip and kinked neck delivers slow, laminar flow for precise pour-over.
- Flow rate
- Slow flow rate optimizes pour-over control but frustrates tea brewing and high-agitation techniques.
- Weighted handle
- Weighted handle counterbalances water weight for stable, fatigue-free pouring.
- Temperature precision
- Holds set temperature within ±0.5°F with less than 1°C overshoot.
- Adjustability
- Firmware updates add a ±3°F temperature calibration tool; the Pro also includes altitude compensation for high-elevation boiling-point accuracy.
- Warranty
- The 1-year warranty covers a small fraction of the typical failure timeline.
- Temperature and features
- Temperature accurate within ±0.5°F, with firmware-upgradeable Guide Mode and brew timer; altitude adjustment is included as a Pro feature.
- Firmware features
- Wi-Fi updates added Guide Mode with 5 presets and a built-in brew timer.
- Temperature hold and calibration
- Firmware updates refined PID hold to ±0.1°F and added a ±3°F calibration tool.
- Guide Mode presets
- Guide Mode presets are scientifically grounded: green tea (~175-180°F) for umami, coffee roasts SCA-range (195-205°F), black tea at boil (212°F).
- Temperature accuracy
- Temperature drift measured at ±0.5°F; PID holds within 1°C of set point while competitor kettles overshoot by 2–3°C.
- Firmware updates
- Firmware updates add new brewing features like Guide Mode and temperature calibration without hardware changes.
- Altitude adjustment
- Altitude adjustment recalculates boiling point for high-elevation brewing, preventing under-extraction.
- Capacity
- The gooseneck spout eliminates dribble for laminar pours and the weighted handle offsets water weight, but flow is slow—ideal only for pour-over.
- Temperature control
- Holds set temperature within 0.5°F for 60 minutes, presets match common brewing temperatures, and altitude adjustment compensates for elevation.
- Workflow integration
- Heats 0.9L (two V60s) in four minutes; the brew timer pauses on lift; firmware updates add features.
- Taste neutrality
- All water-contact surfaces are 304 stainless steel.
- Pour ergonomics
- Weighted handle and gooseneck spout reduce wrist strain and ensure precise pours.
- Pour speed
- Gooseneck spout's laminar flow is designed for pour-over but too slow for tea or high-agitation methods.
- Brew timer
- The brew timer starts on a 2-second press, persists through lifts, and eliminates the need for an external stopwatch.
- Reliability
- Heating element and temperature sensor failures are common complaints after the first year.
- Value for Price
- At $280 CAD, firmware updates add value, but reliability remains a concern.
- 304 stainless steel body
- The kettle has a 304 stainless steel body that resists rust and prevents metallic taste from leaching into the water, with no plastic parts touching the water.
- Capacity
- Holds 0.9L (30 oz), enough for about two large V60 brews or three modest mugs of tea.
- Display
- The base has a high-resolution color screen that shows current and target water temperatures alongside a dedicated brew timer.
- Guide Mode preset temperatures
- Guide Mode has five exact temperature presets: green tea 175°F, dark roast 195°F, light roast 205°F, medium roast 200°F, and black/herbal tea 212°F.

Precision pour-over brewing
This gooseneck kettle is built for pour-over and filter coffee, with variable temperature settings, a built-in brew stopwatch, and a screen showing current and target water temperature. Reviewers highlight the weighted handle and thin, pointed spout for slow, controlled pouring without dribbling, and one noted the water was ready by the time their pour-over setup was prepared.[1,3,5,7]
Brewing tea at preset temperatures
When you're making tea and unsure of the water temperature, Guide Mode labels preset temperatures on the LED screen for different tea types — for example, 180 degrees for green tea — taking out the guesswork. The 0.9 litre capacity is reported to cover about three modest mugs of tea per fill. As one owner's reported experience, the slow flow rate made the kettle hard to use for tea, so it may not suit every pouring style.[2,3,4,7]
Keep water at temperature between pours
For pour over sessions or refills throughout the morning, the Stagg EKG Pro can hold hot water for 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes so it stays ready when you come back. The base screen shows a hold mode icon so you can see at a glance when the keep-warm function is active.[3,7]
Keeping the kettle's firmware current over Wi-Fi
The Stagg EKG Pro connects to Wi-Fi so you can install the latest firmware release through the EKG Updater app, a way for existing features to be adjusted and new features to potentially arrive over time. Note the app is only for updates — it doesn't currently support remote control of the kettle or its settings.[2,7]

| Stagg Ekg Pro Wooden Handle Electric Kettle: Choose this for pour-over coffee and tea brewing where temperature precision matters: it offers variable temperature settings with Guide Mode presets (such as 180 degrees F for green tea and 205 degrees F for pour-over), a high-resolution colour display, a built-in brew stopwatch, and keep-warm for 15 to 60 minutes. Its weighted wooden handle balances the kettle for slow, controlled pours through a thin gooseneck spout, and it heats 0.9 litres of water from 20 to 94 degrees C in around four minutes. Be aware of the 30 oz (0.89 L) capacity, which suits about two large V60 brews or three modest mugs of tea, and that one owner found the flow rate too slow for tea or high-agitation pour-over; Wi-Fi connectivity covers firmware updates only, not remote control.[1,2,3,4,5,7] | Stagg Ekg Pro Electric Kettle: Choose this if you brew pour-over or filter coffee and want precision: it offers variable temperature control with PID regulation, preset temperatures via Guide Mode, a hold function of 15 to 60 minutes, and a brew stopwatch on a full-color display. Its weighted handle, thin kinked neck, and gooseneck spout support slow, controlled pours for pour-over enthusiasts, in a 30 oz (0.89 L) capacity with a 1-year limited warranty. Note that some reviewers find the pour painfully slow for tea brewing, the flow control can feel restrictive for uses other than pour-over, and one long-term owner found the lid the weak point of otherwise praised build quality.[1,6,8,9,10,11,12,13] |

Temperature sensor overshoots and annoying button
Yeah honestly I don't find it great. The temperature sensor is suspect, generally always overshooting. Also the main button is annoying af. I'm pretty sure I turn it off after using the timer yet it remains on. And is always failing to detect it's empty so it's just sitting there on.

Bonavita's automatic shut-off vs. Stagg satisfaction
The fact that the Bonavita shuts off when you remove the kettle killed me every day for years. Just got the stagg and am pleased.

Kettle fails to maintain temperature after a few years; useless customer service
100% agreed. Mine can not reliably maintain a set temperature anymore. It just keeps jumping around all over the place and sputters aggressively once it reaches a boil. Fellow’s customer service has been useless in helping me to at least understand what the problem is so I can fix it myself. It’s unacceptable that a kettle this expensive should be so poorly built that it has to be replaced a few years later.

OXO feels built better than Fellow, despite aesthetics
I have owned the Oxo and the Fellow; I wish I had gone with the Oxo again. Sure it’s not as pretty but it feels built better

Build quality and slow flow lead to switching to Brewista
I had two of them. Build quality is not sufficient in my opinion so after they both had contact issues I went back to brewista artisan. Also I fin that the flow rate is too slow which lacks versatility but this is personal preference(you can hardly use it for tea or even for pourover if you want high agitation)

Long-term comparison of Stagg and Stagg EKG; recommends based on aesthetics
Stagg or Stagg EKG? I've owned both, here's my 2¢. I live in Europe, so power related issues do differ compared to US. Stagg: * Thin bottom, slow on induction * Thermometer is pretty useless. Stagg EKG: * Quite slow compared to typical electric kettles. * First one lasted exactly 2 years. Luckily we have this thing called product liability, got a new one, but not that sure that it'll last any longer. * Easy to use, temperature control is very nice. * No beep, which I like a lot. Both: * Both are bit tiny, few dl larger capacity would be preferred. * Unfortunately there are very few pourover kettles that look decent, Stagg IS good looking. Both look well built, the electric internals of the EKG may not be. * For pourover these pour very nicely. I have brewed both large and small batches and they excel in both. Unfortunately this means that the pour is slow for anything else. In conclusion, if I were to buy a new kettle now, I would buy something else, IF I could find a kettle that would seem to be of good quality and look nice. But if the options are the same they were 2 years ago, would still buy Stagg EKG because of the looks. I don't want an ugly kettle on my tabletop.
