Product Insights
The Parallel N° 116 Bread Knife from Opinel leverages 130-year French cutlery heritage and folding-knife DNA to deliver a curved blade that slices cleanly through hard crusts and soft breads, finishing the bottom crust in one motion, while its X50CrMoV15 stainless steel with molybdenum resists acidic residues and moisture, maintaining razor-sharpness for years with home resharpening possible at 56–57 HRC; the beech handle warms instantly and absorbs vibration but requires periodic oiling to prevent cracking, a manageable tradeoff for decades of use, making it an excellent value alternative to Tojiro.

Positive review of Opinel bread knife sharpness and value
I bought the Opinel on recommendation from a pro baker in 2020. It's cut countless loaves and still sharp as a razor. Bonus is it's not very expensive!

The Opinel bread knife is good, well made and looks smart (thought not necessarily cool), and the price is good

Long-term user notes curved blade helps with hard crusts
I've had this opinel bread knife for two years now, not the fanciest but does the job, the curved blade is nice for finishing to slice the bottom crust of a loaf.
