Product Insights
Yummi Candles' Translucent Floating Candles Set of 16 ($15) features FDA/EFSA-approved paraffin that burns cleanly with negligible soot when wicks are trimmed to ¼ inch in still, draft-free water; however, achieving the advertised 8-hour burn time requires these precise conditions, and glass holders may discolor over time (included polycarbonate cups mitigate this). Buyers report color discrepancies (e.g., Sandstone arrives dark purple) and sometimes need multiple replacement shipments to correct errors. The candles offer a per-hour cost of $0.12, 62% more than IKEA but less than larger Yummi sets.
Verified claims
- Color
- The white translucent candle set's images are generally accurate, with no reports of mismatch for this specific white set; buyers report color inconsistency across non-white shades.
- Customer service
- Buyers report frustrating customer service experiences when trying to resolve color mismatches.
- Glass residue
- Buyers report glass or ceramic holders may develop a burned look or residue over time; Yummi advises against burning in glass holders unless sold as a set.
- Water immersion
- Burn in water to achieve the full 8-hour burn time.
- Burning environment
- Place candles 2 inches apart in a draft-free area with still water.
- Wick trimming
- Trim the cotton braided wick to 1/4 inch before each use to limit flame size and reduce wax consumption.
- Purity standard
- Fully refined to ≤0.5% oil per FDA 21 CFR 178.3710, rendering it odorless.
- Clean burn
- Well-made paraffin burns clean; emissions below indoor-air limits (Ökometric 2007).
- Safety near food
- Meets FDA 21 CFR 178.3710 food-contact wax standard; the EFSA safety assessment found no consumer concern up to the migration limit, so wax residue on skin or table linen is non-toxic.
- Value
- At $0.12/hr, 62% more than IKEA per hour but less than Yummi's larger.
- Usage conditions
- Full 8-hour burn requires trimmed wick (1/4-inch) and still water.
- Burn requirements
- Must be burned in water with wick trimmed to ¼ inch to achieve 8-hour burn.
- Clean burning
- Burns with negligible smoke/soot when wick trimmed and water draft-free.
- Holder compatibility
- May cause glass or ceramic holders to develop a burned look over time.
- Scent-free
- These floating candles are unscented and fragrance-free; the food-grade paraffin wax is virtually odorless when burning and does not introduce wax-borne scent that can clash with food.
- Food-grade wax
- The candles use scentless food-grade paraffin wax fully refined to an oil content of 0.5% or less, making the wax virtually impurity-free and free of the petroleum odor or heavy sooting of lower-grade paraffin.
- Event use
- These candles work well for event decor and are affordable for high-volume use.

Warning: color mismatch and poor customer service from Yummi Candles
Do not buy from Yummi Candles. I'm now receiving a third shipment of candles from them because the first two shipments are extremely different from their website pictures. I ordered Sandstone (cream/tan color) candles last month and they came in as a dark purple.

Yummi candles glass holders may get burned looking over time
I’ve used Yummi over the years and do find that the glass can get a bit burned looking… however I’m not sure if it was just the colored candles that had that affect, or the white/ivory as well. Might be worth a test run?
