Product Insights
Yummi Candles' taper set, made by a family-owned Canadian company since 1976, provides 12-inch elongated conical candles at C$2 each, offering 8-hour drip-free burns with food-grade refined paraffin that is odorless and non-yellowing. The price undercuts competitors by 15-20%, but the color is a surface layer that can differ drastically from photos, leave residue on glass holders, and requires adhesive putty for standard holders due to a 0.75-inch base. The core promise is a clean, uniform burn for events, balanced by the need to manage color accuracy and fit.

Food-grade paraffin wax, fully refined (≤0.5% oil), ensures odorless, non-yellowing burn.
Why this is supported
The wax is scentless food-grade paraffin with ≤0.5% residual oil, as confirmed by the brand and materials science.
These candles are made from scentless food-grade paraffin wax, so they should not emit any noticeable paraffin odor when burning properly.
Since these are scentless, do they emit any paraffin odor when burning that could be noticeable in a small room?Additionally, the hydrofinishing process removes impurities for color stability.

cerasmarti.com- Burn test
Timed burn tests and competitor comparisons confirm the advertised 8-hour burn time.
Why this is supported
A buyer's timed burn test showed Yummi tapers had 6.5 inches remaining after 3.5 hours, indicating a total burn time matching the advertised 8 hours.
Yummi Candles and CANDWAX (from Amazon) did okay after 3.5 hours = 6.5 inches.
u/sailortails in r/weddingplanningIn the same test, West Elm tapers had 7.5 inches remaining, meaning Yummi burns faster, while CANDWAX performed identically and General Wax had shorter burn time and more dripping. A wedding venue recommended Yummi for their long burn time:
We got our taper candles from Yummi. Our venue recommended them for the long burn time.
u/bimbo_mom in r/weddingplanningThe manufacturer estimates 8 hours based on 3-4 hour burn cycles in draft-free conditions; continuous all-day burning may yield slightly less. Due to handcrafting, burn time can vary between candles:
While most candles should perform similarly, slight differences in wax density or wick can cause minor variation.
Is the 8-hour burn time consistent across all 12 candles in a set, or do some burn faster than others?- Price per candle
At C$2 per candle, it undercuts Hyoola and Ballard by 15-20% and matches BOLSIUS per-inch.
Why this is supported
The set retails for C$24 for 12 candles, yielding C$2 each.
At C$24 for 12, Yummi costs C$2 per candle; Hyoola's equivalent 12-pack sells for US$19.99 (≈C$2.36) and Ballard Designs' 6-pack at US$10.50 (≈C$2.48 per candle)
Value compared to other taper candle brands — set_of_12_price_per_candleBy height, Yummi also compares favorably to BOLSIUS's 30-pack:

Value compared to other taper candle brands — bolsius_10_inch_30_pack_comparisonThus, on a per-unit and per-height basis, Yummi is competitive.
- Cost per hour
Burned hour cost ≈C$0.25, comparable to Hyoola after currency conversion.
Why this is supported
Real-world burn testing validates the listed 8-hour burn time.
When factoring in actual burn rates,

- Color coating
Color is a surface layer; scraping reveals white wax.
Why this is supported
Reviews indicate that the color is not solid through the candle.
Shoppers love the vibrant, accurate colors for festive settings, but purists may mind that the color is not solid through the candle.
themeAnother buyer calls it a personal preference.
Just a personal preference to having a solid colour wax.
Customer review, November 29, 2025Because the color is only a surface coating, handling can scrape it off, revealing the white wax base.
- Color accuracy
Actual color can differ drastically from website photos.
Why this is supported
A Reddit user reports a serious color mismatch.
I'm now receiving a third shipment of candles from them because the first two shipments are extremely different from their website pictures. I ordered Sandstone (cream/tan color) candles last month and they came in as a dark purple.
u/Timely_Fox_8771 in r/weddingplanningThe same user notes that customer service replaces the order rather than refunding, leading to a frustrating cycle of incorrect colors.
- Color longevity
Fully refined wax prevents color bloom over time.
Why this is supported
The candles use fully refined paraffin, which resists oxidation and prevents the white powdery bloom that develops on lesser waxes.
Being almost pure, it is extremely stable against oxidation.
cerasmarti.comThis purity keeps the coated color consistent during storage.
- Clean burn
Burns cleanly with no petroleum smell and minimal smoke when properly trimmed.

- Silhouette
Gradual 12-inch taper with a 0.75-inch base creates a slender, modern profile.
Why this is supported
The elongated conical silhouette tapers almost imperceptibly over its full 12-inch length, producing a smooth, unbroken line that reflects light evenly. The base diameter sits at the slender end of the standard range:
The base diameter typically ranges from ¾ inch to 1 inch
marketstreetcandles.com, which gives the candle a notably delicate, modern profile that reads as design-forward rather than stocky.
- Fit
0.75-inch base is loose in standard 7/8-inch holders; use adhesive putty.
Why this is supported
The candles are narrower than standard taper holders:
These candles have a 0.75" (3/4") diameter, while standard taper holders typically have a 7/8" (0.875") opening.

Buyers report colored Yummi candles can leave residue on glass holders.
Why this is supported
Reddit users report that Yummi candles can leave a burned-looking residue on glass holders over repeated use, particularly with colored candles. Using opaque or metal taper holders can keep the display clean without worrying about discoloration.
- Endorsements
Wedding venues and the wedding planning community recommend these candles.
Why this is supported
A buyer reports that their wedding venue specifically recommended Yummi candles for the long burn time:
Separately, a Reddit burn test comparing taper candles for weddings found Yummi performed well; the tester said,
A detailed cost analysis confirms a per-candle price of C$2, undercutting comparable brands by 15-20%.
- Event performance
Burns dripless in draft-free conditions and produces no wax odor.
Why this is supported
Consumer reviews and manufacturer details confirm the candles are dripless when used properly. One reviewer writes,
The manufacturer states they are designed to be dripless in draft-free conditions, with a hard-shell wax and cotton wick preventing dripping. Additionally, the candles use scentless food-grade paraffin wax:
This is consistent with the industry standard for fully refined paraffin, which has an oil content of 0.5% or less and is odorless.
- Uniformity
Each of the 12 candles has identical elongated conical proportions.
Why this is supported
The uniform dimensions are emphasized in a design analysis:
This consistency prevents the disordered look that mixing candle sizes can introduce.
- Craftsmanship
Yummi Candles is a family-owned brand made in Canada since 1976.
Why this is supported
The company's website confirms its long heritage:
This nearly 50-year lineage positions Yummi as an established Canadian candle maker.
- Color match
Buyers report color mismatches requiring multiple exchanges.
Why this is supported
