Product Insights
Simons Maison's Metallic Wire Large Rectangular Basket offers an affordable, Canadian-designed solution that fits standard IKEA KALLAX shelves as a pull-out drawer, holding 6–8 folded bath towels or magazines, but its matte finish scratches and chips, performs poorly in humid environments, and lacks padded handles, making it best suited for lightweight items in dry indoor spaces and stacking only when empty.
Verified claims
- Limitations
- Best for lightweight items in dry indoor spaces
- Price and size
- At CA$16.99 sale, larger and shallower than IKEA RISATORP and Target Brightroom.
- Design provenance
- Simons Maison exclusive designed in Canada.
- Handles
- Uses integrated metal cutout handles rather than the wood handles on the Target Brightroom basket, so the grip is unpadded.
- Durability
- The painted matte finish is susceptible to scratches and chips with regular use and is not suited to high-humidity areas.
- Care
- Use mild soapy water and soft cloth; avoid abrasives, vinegar, and acetone.
- Weight limit
- Heavy items risk permanent deformation and wire handles become uncomfortable when full.
- Contents fit
- Holds 6-8 folded bath towels or a 5-6 inch stack of magazines.
- Stacking
- Stacks securely only when empty.
- Handle comfort
- Metal cutout handles are comfortable for light loads but press into hands under heavier loads.
- Humidity suitability
- Only for dry indoor spaces.
- Design value
- Simons Maison exclusive Canadian design; when on sale, it is priced below comparable mass-market wire baskets.
- Handle design and stackability
- Cutout handles are unpadded; the basket stacks flat when empty.
- IKEA integration
- Fits standard IKEA KALLAX shelves as a shallow pull-out drawer.
- Stuck-on grime cleaning
- For adhesive residue or greasy smudges, use isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab; it removes the tack without attacking the matte paint, while acetone, nail polish remover, and citrus-based cleaners can strip the topcoat.
- Countertop vanity use
- The 5-inch sidewalls let the basket corral 8- to 9-inch pump bottles on a counter while keeping product labels visible.
- Paper holding
- The 15-inch length accommodates legal-size paper (8.5 x 14 inches) lengthwise and letter/A4 documents sideways, with the 5-inch depth holding about 5 to 6 inches of loose sheets or magazines.
- Leak containment
- The full metal base prevents contents from leaking through onto shelves.
- Aesthetic
- Buyers describe the basket's design as sleek, modern, and more attractive than a basic wire organizer.

Extra storage for closets and shelves
When you want to add storage space, this wire basket's ample capacity and squared-off edges help it maximize closet and shelf space, and its open build lets you see what's inside. Customers reported it can be too large for some uses, such as small items or compact spots, so it's best suited to bigger storage needs. Cutout handles make it easy to pull out and move.[1]
Maximizing closet and shelf space for folded items
Use this large wire basket to organize folded clothes or accessories on closet shelves, where its squared-off edges help make the most of the available space. Shoppers note the basket is notably large, so it may overwhelm compact areas or small-item storage — measuring your intended spot before buying can help.[1]
Decorative towel storage for the bathroom
Use this large rectangular wire basket to keep folded towels tidy in the bathroom. Customers report it holds several towels, and its sleek open-wire design doubles as a decorative accent, as shown with folded towels inside in the product image.[1,2]
Keeping shelves clean when pantry items leak
Use this wire basket on a shelf or in the pantry for items that tend to leak or drip. One customer reported that the full metal base contains spills, helping keep the shelf underneath clean, and the sturdy metal build is described as holding up to this kind of storage. Based on a small number of customer reviews.[1]
Display storage that doubles as decor
This wire basket is meant for open storage you don't want to hide away — its open, modern shape and sleek lines are designed to add a refined touch to your decor. Customers report the attractive wire design looks good enough to leave out on open shelving, and reviewers say it blends into bathrooms and closets.[1]
Product comparison
Compared within this brand.
| Metallic Wire Large Rectangular Basket: Choose this if you want an open-top metal wire basket that looks good enough to leave out in modern bathrooms, closets, or on open shelving — reviewers report using it to hold several towels, maximize shelf space for folded clothes, and contain spills on shelves thanks to its full metal base. Its sleek painted-metal design with cutout handles measures 15 inches by 10 inches by 5 inches (39 by 26 by 13 cm) and offers ample capacity. Note that some customers found it notably large, so it may overwhelm compact or under-sink spaces and may not suit small-item storage — measure your intended spot first.[1,2] | Textured Storage Basket: Choose this if you want a compact, discreet organizer for small everyday items — reviewers use it for remotes and gadgets, mail and keys, bathroom shelves, and desk supplies, and some repurpose it as a reusable gift basket. The one-size Black variant measures 10.25 by 6.75 by 5 inches, has cut-out handles on either end, and features a rigid 100% cardboard paper structure with a modern textured, felted-look design suited to minimalist decor. Note it is too small to be practical for larger items like towels or bulky toys, and some customers found it smaller than expected or felt the material reads as plastic rather than natural fiber.[3] | Water Hyacinth Rounded Wall Basket: Choose this if you want a compact wall-hung accent in a rustic, farmhouse, or nature-inspired space: its rounded open weave of braided water hyacinth over a rigid frame suits dried hydrangeas, door sprays, and seasonal greenery, and the seller also positions it for toys, gardening accessories, or entryway mail. It measures about 11.75 inches (30 cm) tall, 9.75 inches (25 cm) long, and 5.5 inches (14 cm) wide, with brown hanging straps and a decorative faux-leather handle. Note that one reviewer found it smaller than the photos suggest, so measure carefully if you need a larger standalone piece for a spacious wall.[4,5] |
