Product Insights
The Tencel Lyocell duvet casing from Simons Maison combines a sustainably sourced, soft Tencel cover with a recycled polyester fill that is hypoallergenic and moisture-wicking, offering a plush, hotel-quality appearance at a competitive price. However, despite its cooling label, the duvet retains body heat, making it better suited for cold sleepers and winter use. Maintenance demands daily fluffing to redistribute shifting fill and prevent heat buildup, while the slippery casing and lack of corner loops necessitate aftermarket clips. Stitching may unravel after washing, and the double size overhangs standard beds, requiring a queen cover. The duvet's warmth and upkeep tradeoffs position it as a value-oriented option for those seeking a soft, sustainable duvet with a caveat against summer cooling.
Verified claims
- Cooling
- Buyers report the duvet traps heat and is too warm for summer cooling use.
- Maintenance
- The Tencel casing is slippery and requires daily fluffing to redistribute the fill.
- Competitive pricing
- At $49.95 CAD on sale, the duvet costs roughly one-tenth of a Simba Hybrid 3-in-1.
- Value
- At $49.95, the duvet combines a Tencel casing, recycled fill, moisture-wicking, and hypoallergenic benefits—features often priced 2-3x higher.
- Heat retention
- Despite its cooling label, the duvet retains body heat, suiting cold sleepers and winter use.
- Construction concerns
- Unraveling stitching and fill shift reported; daily fluffing and aftermarket clips may be needed.
- Hygiene
- The casing inhibits bacterial growth and the fill resists moisture, making the duvet hypoallergenic.
- Material quality
- The round, smooth Tencel fibres make the casing feel softer than 600 TC cotton, and the materials are sustainably sourced.
- Warmth
- The recycled polyester fill retains body heat, making the duvet feel warm despite the cooling casing.
- Plushness
- Duvet has a puffy, over-stuffed visual appearance with a plush medium loft comparable to down.
- Cover fit
- Double duvet's 84 width causes overhang; requires a queen-size cover.
- Corner loops
- No corner loops; duvet must be secured with clips or cover ties.
- Stitching durability
- Buyers report stitching unraveling after washing, affecting fill stability.
- Recycled fill
- 100% recycled polyester fill repurposes ~35 PET bottles per kg.
- Hypoallergenic
- Fill's <1% moisture absorption makes it hypoallergenic and resists dust mites and mold.
- Perceived luxury
- Buyers report a cloud-like, hotel-quality look and feel from the duvet's softness and loft.
- Bed fit
- Double duvet (84 x 90) overhangs a standard double bed.
- Washing
- Cold water wash, gentle cycle; low-heat or air dry only.
- Fluffing
- Daily shaking/fluffing needed to redistribute fill.
- Corner ties
- No corner loops; secure inside cover with ties or clips.
- Fill stability
- Buyers report fill shifts daily, even when attached at all corners.
- Fill properties
- Medium loft and lower breathability than down; casing boosts breathability, and fill is hypoallergenic and moisture-wicking.

Deep Research
How it stacks up against other cooling duvets
- The Simba Hybrid 3-in-1 cooling duvet, which uses patented Stratos phase-change technology, starts at £249 for a single and £349 for a double; its price highlights that the Simons duvet at $49.95 CAD — roughly one-tenth the cost for a single — offers a minimal-material cooling solution for those who want Tencel thermoregulation without the tech premium.
- A basic Tencel duvet cover set from Bare Home retails at $70.71 USD on sale, while the Dorma Adelina cover costs £215 and the Juniper Large Duvet Cover is $340 USD — all are covers without fill — making the Simons duvet’s $49.95 CAD price for a complete 300-thread-count Tencel insert with recycled polyester fill dramatically less expensive than even the most affordable cover-only option.
- The Harbor House comforter pairs a nylon shell with Tencel fill at $159.99 USD; the Simons duvet delivers a more breathable, moisture-wicking 300-thread-count Tencel casing at $49.95 CAD, offering a superior shell material at roughly one-third the cost.
How Tencel lyocell actually keeps you cool
- The fibre’s cooling power is built into its nano-scale architecture: a compact core, a porous middle zone, and a semi-permeable skin form a moisture-absorbing capillary network that buffers vapour release — this physical structure, not a chemical finish, is what gives the duvet casing its persistent thermoregulation.
- TENCEL™ lyocell fibres wick sweat directly into the fibre’s interior rather than letting it pool on the fabric surface, so the duvet casing stays dry and cool against the skin even on humid nights — unlike cotton, which holds moisture in its structure but feels damp to the touch.
- Lenzing’s microfibre technology embeds the cooling capability into the fibre itself — it won’t wash out or degrade — so the duvet’s thermoregulation stays effective through years of machine washing, not relying on a temporary coating like some synthetic wicking finishes.
- Each TENCEL™ lyocell filament is round and smooth, giving the 300-thread-count casing a naturally silky, cool-to-the-touch sensation that signals immediate thermal relief — a tactile advantage that conventional cotton, with its flat, twisted fibres, cannot replicate.
- TENCEL™ lyocell absorbs up to 50% more moisture than cotton, which means it removes perspiration from your skin faster and in greater volume, sustaining the evaporative cooling effect through the night instead of saturating and becoming clammy like a cotton casing would.
- TENCEL™ lyocell fibres automatically adjust their moisture absorption rate in response to changes in body temperature — absorbing more when you warm up, less when you cool down — so the casing works with your natural sleep cycle to prevent both overheating and overcooling.
- Because moisture is absorbed into the fibre rather than sitting on the surface, the duvet casing inhibits the growth of odour-causing bacteria that create a stale, clammy feel — lab tests show TENCEL™ lyocell supports significantly lower bacterial growth than cotton or polyester, keeping the cooling sensation fresher between washes.
Recycled polyester fill benefits and sustainability
- It takes about 35 recycled PET bottles to produce one kilogram of recycled polyester fiber, giving the duvet a tangible 'bottle redemption' metric—each unit effectively repurposes plastic that would otherwise remain in landfills for centuries, a concrete eco-metric for sustainability-focused buyers.
- The recycled polyester fill is manufactured from discarded PET plastic bottles, which are shredded, melted, and re-spun into fiber—transforming landfill-bound waste into a plush insulation layer and reducing the duvet's environmental footprint compared to virgin polyester production.
- Recycled polyester fiber absorbs less than 1% moisture, making it naturally inhospitable to dust mites, mold, and bacteria—this inherent material property is what makes the fill hypoallergenic and odourless, offering an advantage for allergy-prone sleepers beyond simple synthetic material claims.
What 300 thread count means for Tencel
- Unlike cotton, which requires multiple washes to soften, a 300-thread-count TENCEL lyocell casing feels silky-smooth and soft from the very first night because the lyocell fiber is naturally finer than cotton — there’s simply less surface friction against your skin.
- At 300 threads per square inch, the casing remains open enough for TENCEL’s moisture-wicking to operate fully — the fiber absorbs roughly 50% more moisture than cotton and releases it quickly, so the duvet surface stays dry even in warmer sleep environments.
- Because the fiber structure is intrinsically smoother, a 300-thread-count TENCEL casing delivers a more luxurious skin feel than a 600-thread-count cotton duvet cover — the higher cotton count can’t match the native slipperiness of the lyocell surface.
- Think of the 300 thread count as a structural enabler rather than a quality claim — the duvet’s cool, smooth character comes from the Lenzing TENCEL lyocell fibers, which naturally feel silky at any viable count; the 300 TC simply gives the fabric enough density to hold its shape without stifling the fiber’s temperature-regulating breathability.

Soft!
This duvet is one of the best duvets I’ve ever touched. It is very fluffy and soft and lets me sleep like a baby.

Amazing
I chose this duvet because it seemed light but substantial, and had cooling which I prefer, and it doesn’t disappoint! A nice big duvet that is incredibly soft, it’s literally like sleeping in the clouds. Love so much.
Nice Duvet but
This duvet feels so light and fluffy but the reason for this purchase was that it would be the ideal summer duvet, not too warm. I had purchased a summer weight down duvet but had to return it as it was impossible to sleep with it. It was too warm. Fortunately this one is less warm for summer nights but still too warm for me

J’adore! Doux et confortable.

Feels like sleeping in clouds
Love the duvet but will keep it for winter. It’s very lightweight but still warm. Also very fluffy. Purchased cooling blanket from Costco for summer.

Super fluffy and cozy but NOT cooling
I purchased this duvet instead of one on sale at the time Because of the claim to be cooling. It is the hottest duvet I’ve ever owned (doesn’t bother me) but my husband refuses to use it.
Comparatively not the best but not bad either
I have another Simon's duvet from Costco that is one of the best duvet I have ever used. It's pure cotton and it's not in stock.

So fluffy!
This duvet is so fluffy and I absolutely love it. It has the over-stuffed cozy look and feel when it's in the duvet cover which I have always wanted in my bedding. I am a very hot sleeper and I find that I am still ok with this duvet on me (at least partially) in July. I washed it as soon as I got it and hung it up to dry, which went well. I just feel so cozy in bed now, and I'm really happy with this purchase.

Q&A
5 answered- Is the TENCEL lyocell casing OEKO-TEX certified or made from sustainably sourced fibers?
- TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are made from wood sourced from certified (FSC® or PEFC) or controlled wood sources, ensuring sustainable forestry [1][2]. The fiber production process is EU Ecolabel certified for reduced environmental impact [1]. While OEKO-TEX certification is common for TENCEL™ products, it is not explicitly stated for this duvet's casing.
- What is the recommended washing and drying temperature to prevent shrinkage and maintain the cooling properties?
- To prevent shrinkage and maintain cooling properties, wash this duvet in cold water (30°C/86°F) on a gentle cycle with mild detergent, and avoid hot water above 40°C [3][4]. Tumble dry on low heat or air dry flat away from direct sunlight; high heat can damage the fibers [4].
- Does this duvet have corner loops or ties to secure it inside a duvet cover?
- This duvet does not have corner loops or ties; it uses sewn-through box construction to keep the fill evenly distributed and prevent shifting. If you prefer to secure it inside a duvet cover, you may need a cover with internal ties or use duvet clips.
- How does the recycled polyester fill compare to down or down alternative in terms of loft and breathability?
- Recycled polyester fill offers a plush, medium loft that is less lofty and breathable than natural down but comparable to typical down alternative fills. The TENCEL™ Lyocell casing enhances breathability and moisture wicking, partially offsetting the fill's lower breathability. It provides good warmth without the weight of down.
- Is the duvet suitable for year-round use or primarily for warm weather?
- This duvet is designed primarily for warm weather or hot sleepers, as the TENCEL™ Lyocell casing is lightweight, moisture-wicking, and thermoregulating to keep you cool [product description]. The recycled polyester fill adds some warmth, making it suitable for year-round use in temperate climates or for those who sleep warm—but it may not be warm enough for cold winters without additional layering.
