Product Insights
The Simons Maison Minimalist Toilet Paper Holder With Reserve is a freestanding, floor-standing unit (21 inches tall, holds three rolls) designed for bathrooms where wall mounting isn't possible, but it lacks a dispensing spindle, making one-handed roll replacement awkward. Its core promise is a coordinated, space-saving storage solution with a matching wastebasket, exclusive to Simons Maison and crafted in Canada. The main tradeoff lies in finish selection: silver stainless steel offers a 15–25-year lifespan and easy cleaning resistant to water spots, whereas black or white iron finishes last only 2–5 years, require gentle care, and show visible calcium deposits (especially on matte black) along with potential smudges, though black matte hides fingerprints better than glossy. Fits standard rolls up to 5 inches; jumbo and mega rolls not confirmed.
Verified claims
- Humidity lifespan
- Silver stainless steel lasts 15–25 years in humid bathrooms; black/white iron finish lasts 2–5 years.
- Maintenance
- Iron finishes need gentle care and show water spots when water dries; the silver stainless-steel finish is easier to clean and water spots wipe away.
- Water spots
- White calcium deposits become visible on the black matte finish after water dries.
- Fingerprints
- Matte finish shows fingerprints less than glossy, but black may still show smudges.
- Cleaning care
- Best cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap; avoid harsh chemicals to protect the iron coating.
- Dispensing
- The holder uses a horizontal dispensing arm for the active roll rather than a spindle; without a spindle or side arm, one-handed roll replacement is awkward.
- Placement
- Freestanding floor-standing holder; not wall-mountable.
- Height
- 6.5 x 5 x 21 inches: 5.5 inches taller than the 15.5-inch Afton for easier top-roll access.
- Brand positioning
- Simons Maison positions this as a Canadian-designed exclusive, but merchant confirmation of exclusivity is pending; it is presented as a boutique alternative to widely distributed holders such as the Moda Afton.
- Coordinated set
- Simons Maison makes a Small Modern Wastebasket in a matching matte aesthetic, so the two pieces can be used together as a coordinated set, but an official coordinating collection is not confirmed by the merchant.
- Functional design
- Freestanding floor-standing design with a compact 6.5 in W x 5 in D x 21 in H footprint; no mounting or drilling required, but one-handed roll changes are awkward.
- Finishes and care
- Three finishes (Black, White, Silver); matte Black requires daily wiping in hard water.
- Roll size
- Fits standard rolls roughly 4–5 inches in diameter; jumbo commercial rolls (about 8–12 inches) do not fit, and mega rolls around 5–6 inches are a tight, unconfirmed fit.
- Capacity
- Holds three rolls total, not three spare rolls plus an active roll; the tall design aids access rather than adding a fourth roll.
- Mounting hardware
- No mounting hardware is included; the freestanding holder sits on the floor and requires no drilling or installation.
- Humidity resistance
- In humid bathrooms, the black and white iron finishes rely on their coating to prevent rust and can oxidize if scratched; the silver stainless-steel version resists corrosion and is lower-maintenance.

Keeping a spare roll handy with a freestanding holder
This freestanding holder keeps toilet paper rolls handy at all times, with a roll mounted on a horizontal arm at the top that hangs forward for dispensing. Assembly is tool-free, and most reviewers report putting it together in minutes. Note that its lightweight base means stability depends on a level, hard floor — it can wobble or tip on uneven surfaces like grouted tile or carpet, and taller users may find it sits lower than wall-mounted dispensers.[1,2]
Keeping spare toilet paper rolls within reach
This freestanding holder has a shorter vertical peg on its base for stacking spare rolls, so extra toilet paper is stored right where it's needed instead of in a cabinet. The slim, minimalist profile is designed to hold up to three rolls while taking up little bathroom floor space.[1,2]
Freestanding toilet paper holder for small bathrooms and no-drill rentals
A slim freestanding holder that keeps toilet paper within reach where wall mounting isn't an option, such as rental apartments where drilling is prohibited. Its compact footprint fits tight spaces like powder rooms without dominating the floor, and it can be repositioned easily, with a 3-roll reserve built in so extra rolls stay on hand.[1,3]
Keeping spare rolls handy in a modern bathroom
This wall accessory stores toilet paper within reach while doubling as a decor piece. Its matte black finish and clean, minimalist lines complement contemporary fixtures, and reviewers using it in modern renovated bathrooms say it adds a touch of elegance.[1]
Product comparison
Compared within this brand.
| Minimalist Toilet Paper Holder With Reserve: Choose this if you want a freestanding toilet paper holder that needs no wall mounting or drilling—helpful for rentals—and want to keep up to three spare rolls within reach in a compact footprint suited to small bathrooms or powder rooms. Its minimalist matte design and tool-free assembly are highlights for reviewers, though its lightweight base can wobble or tip on anything but a level, hard floor, and taller users may find the roughly 21-inch height sits lower than wall-mounted dispensers. Some reviewers also report scratches or missing parts, so check all pieces before discarding the packaging.[1] | Metallic Toilet Paper Storage: Choose this if you want a freestanding way to keep spare toilet paper handy in a modern bathroom: it is a matte black metal cylinder, about 13.75 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter, with an enclosed removable lid and a vertical front slot that shows the rolls inside. Its structure is designed to store up to three rolls, and reviewers report it fits jumbo or mega rolls without issue. One reviewer praised the solid build and tidy, hidden look, though the photographed surface showed subtle fingerprints or smudges.[4,5,6] |

Just okay
It does have some weight to it, but because the base is so flat the floor has to be as well or else it wobbles. Also has a few scratches, luckily not seen when toilet paper covers it.

Sturdy
I like the size and ease of putting this toilet paper holder together. I wanted a painted one because it seems like all former chrome ones rusted or got pitted. The price was reasonable and the quality was great.
