My Heart, My Cause

30 Aug 2021

Simons is proud to present the third edition of My Heart, My Cause. This collaboration spotlights local talent by printing their works of art on T-shirts. For each T-shirt sold, $10 will be donated to one of the four charitable causes chosen by the Canadian artists who created these stunning illustrations.

Horizons, by mpgmb

Great friends and the founders of mpgmb, Marie-Pier Guilmain and Maud Beauchamp combine their respective passions to create designs inspired by their everyday discoveries and surroundings. Since 2013, they’ve produced decorative items with a singularly captivating aesthetic.

Entitled Horizons, this piece was made following a trip to Morocco. Reflecting the architecture that they admired there, the stylishly juxtaposed geometric lines form a surreal place imbued with sweetness and nostalgia.

The pair chose to donate to Chez Doris, a Montreal shelter offering services and programs to women in precarious circumstances. By providing meals, personal hygiene products, health and mental services, housing placement, and more, the organization meets their needs in an inclusive and non-judgmental environment.

Desert Night, by Élisabeth Montreuil

Illustrator and fan of hand-drawn lettering, Élisabeth Montreuil gets us daydreaming about summer with her colourful, retro creations. The artist first sketches her ideas on paper before moving them to her iPad. “Digital art allows me to bring my pieces to life thanks to the endless choice of colours, textures, and effects,” she explains.

For our collaboration, Élisabeth created a print in sunny tones. With it, she appeals to our nostalgia for the hippie movement and shows her passion for travelling and road trips.

She chose to donate to Laura Lémerveil, a community organization in Quebec that supports and assists children living with multiple disabilities. Its mission? To promote self-fulfillment regardless of the severity of a child’s situation.

B+W Abstract, by The Ba.sic

The Ba.sic is a creative duo founded by Sarah and Laurianne Pao of Manitoba. Their work is inspired by contemporary design as well as shapes, colours, and textures found in nature, which they use to create arresting, minimalist pieces.

For the My Heart, My Cause project, the duo has produced a striking design that plays with proportion and contrast. Designed by Laurianne, B+W Abstract is a simple but powerful graphic composition that reflects the natural world.

Sarah and Laurianne have chosen to donate to Willow Place, a shelter for women fleeing violence. The organization supports women and children by providing safe housing, meals, counselling services, and a support line.

In the Mood for Love, by Marie-Claude Marquis

Multi-disciplinary artist Marie-Claude Marquis expresses her creativity through graphic design and visual arts. She loves to give old objects a second life using typographical interventions inspired by nostalgia, pop culture, and her own emotions.

In the Mood for Love is a colourful piece that touches on the universal need for love and human contact. After months of social distancing, this feeling is even more poignant. “We all deserve to be touched and loved,” she says.

The artist has chosen to donate to Centre d’Apprentissage Parallèle de Montréal (CAP). This organization uses art to help people experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties. CAP workshops focus on creativity to foster personal growth and fulfillment.

We’d like to sincerely thank these artists for sharing their talent with us and for having highlighted these important causes that mean so much to them. The My Heart, My Cause T-shirts are all made of organic cotton and are now available in store and online.
