Product Insights

The Irlene Topstitched Cowboy Boots from Frye and Co. enter on the rising western-trend wave with a 15-inch shaft, stacked heel, and textured rubber outsole for grip, but they are a fashion-first boot: the synthetic leather upper has been reported to peel and crack within months, the toe stays stiff and narrow (no wide width exists, so wide feet should size up), and comfort suits short wear rather than all-day standing. At CAD 250, the boot is overpriced given the identical style sells for $159.99 US list or $109.99 on sale stateside, and all seven variants carry the same premium regardless of size or color. Care requires synthetic-specific products and air-drying away from heat, while styling works best with miniskirts, black dresses, or tonal cream—not double denim or fringe. The core tradeoff is clear: trend-forward western looks and practical sole grip come at the cost of material longevity, fit flexibility, and price-value.

Verified claims

Value
CAD 250 is overpriced: the identical boot sells for $159.99 US list and $109.99 on sale.
Variant pricing
All seven listed variants sell for the same $250 CAD; choice is limited by size/color availability, not price.
Durability
Buyers report the faux leather upper peeling and cracking within months.
Material behavior
The synthetic toe won't stretch or soften with wear the way a leather boot would.
Care and maintenance
Only synthetic-leather-specific care is safe for the upper; heat drying can crack or melt the coating.
Sizing
Fits true to size for medium feet; the toe is narrow and no wide width exists, so wide feet should size up.
Comfort
Buyers find the boot comfortable for shorter wear, not for hours of standing or walking.
Fit
Buyers report the toe runs narrow and stiff, so wide-footed buyers should size up.
Heel
Stacked heel offers flat-like stability for all-day outdoor wear.
Care routine
Use synthetic-specific cleaning, conditioning and waterproofing, and air-dry at room temperature — never near heat.
Shaft height
Shaft height is 15 inches.
Traction
Textured rubber outsole grips wet pavement and polished floors better than leather or hard-stacked soles.
Style versatility
Pair with miniskirts, black dresses, or tonal cream, not double denim or fringe.
Trend timing
Off-white western boots are current: western boot search interest rose 47% from August 2024 to May 2025.
Colorway availability
Off White runs sizes 6–10; the Caramel colorway stops at size 7.
Material quality
Buyers report the synthetic leather upper peels and cracks within months.
Fashion timing
Western boot search interest rose 47% between Aug 2024 and May 2025; white styles remain strong into spring 2026.

stunning

Navneet A.

These are so freaking beautiful, they're a work of art. You can tell how quality the materials are as well.

Narrow and stiff

Diana C.

I’ve had a few pairs of cowboy boots over the years and while these are gorgeous and the shaft height is perfect, they are very stiff and the toe area is narrow. Because they are faux leather I don’t anticipate them stretching as much as a full leather pair would. Unfortunately I had to return. If you have a narrow foot they might work for you!

Satisfaisant

Très bien

Reddit Insights

Reddit overwhelmingly warns that Frye & Co. boots are a low-quality diffusion line made of cheap materials like vegan leather, not worth the price, and should be avoided in favor of authentic Frye or other reputable boot brands.

Watch Out For

highBoots sold at Marshalls/TJMaxx with a '1' on the tag are made specifically for the store, not overstock; they are of inferior quality.
high'Vegan leather' is just plastic; will peel and not last.
highFrye & Co. website may not be legitimate; beware of fake sites.

Compared To

vs Authentic Frye

Frye & Co. is a cheap imitation of real Frye boots; real Frye (especially older ones) are much higher quality with full-grain leather and Goodyear welt construction.

Source Threads

  • Frye boots at TJX stores are not the same as older Frye quality

Every time I spot a pair of Frye boots at a TJX store, after just touching it and giving it a quick look over, I put it down. I have Frye boots that are 10+ years old and the ones you’ll find at Marshall’s are not the same.
