Satin Cargobelas Oversized Pant
The Satin Cargobelas Oversized Pant is a pair of black satin-weave cargo trousers from Rick Owens, featuring a wide leg, low drop crotch, and multiple cargo pockets. Made in Italy from a flowy viscose blend with a satin finish, it measures a 38.5 cm front rise and an 84 cm inseam in size 38. User reviews highlight its intentionally long length that drags on the floor, and note that hemming may compromise the designer's intended silhouette.

Product Insights
The Satin Cargobelas Oversized Pant from Rick Owens is a design hybrid that fuses the Bela exposed zipper with beveled cargo pockets in a low-crotch, wide-leg silhouette. At 1595 CAD, the premium is justified by intricate construction and satin charmeuse fabric (61% acetate, 39% viscose) that yields a liquid drape and glossy sheen. The core promise is exaggerated volume and fluid movement, but the tradeoffs are significant: the 33-inch inseam causes pooling, and hemming disrupts the intended puffed silhouette and invites fraying; cargo pockets hold small essentials but satin sags if overstuffed; dry cleaning is required to preserve finish. Styling workarounds—chunky sneakers or heavy boots lift the hem, and a slim-fit top with cropped bomber balances the volume—mitigate these challenges. The elastic waist allows sizing down, and the drop crotch yields a slouchy, fluid fit distinct from rigid cargo pants.
Verified claims
- Hemming
- Hemming disrupts the intended puffed out silhouette and invites fraying.
- Styling workaround
- Chunky sneakers or heavy boots lift the hem off the ground, preventing drag without hemming.
- Top and outerwear pairing
- Slim-fit top and cropped bomber balance the oversized volume.
- Footwear pairing
- Chunky footwear lifts the hem; streamlined sandals offer a contrasting option.
- Pocket function
- The cargo pockets hold small essentials but overstuffing distorts the satin drape.
- Length
- 33-inch inseam causes pooling; shorter buyers should hem or wear chunky sneakers.
- Waist adjustability
- Sizing down is possible thanks to elastic waistband and functional drawcord.
- Drop crotch
- Drop crotch yields slouch; satin drape is more fluid than cotton.
- Sizing reference
- A 181 cm (5'11) model wears size 40; elastic waist fits wide hip range.
- Drape
- Satin charmeuse gives a liquid, soft drape that pools at the hem without clinging.
- Satin finish
- Satin sheen catches light and visually inflates the legs.
- Care requirements
- Dry cleaning preserves the satin's sheen and drape.
- Pocket practicality
- Overfilling pockets with heavy items causes the satin to sag.
- Lineage
- Fuses Cargo pockets with Bela-exposed zipper and elongated silhouette.
- Silhouette
- Low-crotch, wide-leg, full-length; looser than Bolan and part of Temple's exaggerated proportions.
- Material
- 61% acetate, 39% viscose satin charmeuse: fluid drape contrasts typical rigid cargo fabrics.
- Pocket design
- The pant has four beveled cargo pockets, rear welt pockets, and a Bela zipper with rivet details.
- Pocket loading
- Pockets hold a phone or wallet but the satin fabric sags if overstuffed.
- Bela zipper
- Exposed zipper with two snaps is inherited from the Bela tailored trouser.
- Price premium
- 1595 CAD price is justified by the Bela zipper, cupro satin, and complex construction.
- Hardware consistency
- Zipper snap detail is consistent with rear pocket snaps and side pocket rivets.
- Satin weave
- Satin weave's warp-float structure produces a glossy face and matte back, enabling fluid drape.
- Breathability
- The 39% viscose blend improves breathability compared to full-acetate satin.
- Fit
- Low-crotch wide-leg cut, looser than the high-waisted bootcut Bolan.
- Design hybrid
- Design hybrid of Bela zipper and cargo pocketing.
- Pocketing
- More intricate pocketing than Bolan: four beveled cargo and rear welt pockets.
- Care instructions
- Dry cleaning protects sheen; hand-wash only if laid flat.
- Hem wear
- Hem fraying is expected as a worn-in aesthetic, not a defect.
- Hem longevity
- Intentional hem fraying does not affect structural longevity.
- Fabric care
- Requires dry cleaning; avoid heavy pocket loads to prevent sagging.
- Price value
- Premium over Bolan buys Bela zipper and beveled cargo pockets.

Reddit Insights
5 threads · r/RickowensReddit users praise the unique oversized silhouette of Rick Owens Cargobela pants but frequently debate whether to hem them due to extreme length, with many advising to embrace the drag and pair with chunky footwear.
Enthusiasts appreciate the distinct aesthetic and styling potential, but there is notable friction around the extreme length, potential damage from dragging, and high cost, leading to a split between preserving the designer intent and tailoring for personal comfort.

Watch Out For
Community Q&A
- What tops go well with cargobela pants?
- Slim fit shirts like double tees or oversized/baggy tops work; Rick Owens shirts are a natural match.
- Should I hem my cargo belas?
- Many advise against hemming to preserve the intended silhouette and aesthetic; however, some hem a small amount (2-3 inches) and are satisfied, but caution that it may alter the drape.
- What shoes should I wear with cargobelas?
- Chunky sneakers (Geobaskets, Balenciaga 3XLs), big boots, or platform shoes are recommended; avoid low-profile shoes to prevent excessive fabric dragging.
- What size should I get in cargobelas?
- They run long with a drawstring waist; consider sizing down if between sizes, but be mindful of leg length and the need to tie the waist securely.
Compared To
vs Rick Owens Bolans
The cargobelas are looser in fit compared to the Bolans, offering more room and a distinct drape.

Styling advice for cargobela pants
I think a slim fit shirt like the double t’s would create a cool silhouette with the wide cargobelas. Other option is baggy and oversized shirts, but I feel like most people do this now a days.

Discussion on hemming and material durability
What material are they as that’ll play a part in how long they last. But generally it should last years as the materials he uses tend to hold up well after they start fraying on the heel. This is part of Rick’s design choice and the aesthetic for his label, the long dragging pants, the long drop crotches (rise) of pants, long t-shirts for those drop crotch pants, cuffs that go down past the wrist to the knuckles etc. Look at runway shows or better yet the models on ssense, mytheresa, or Mr.porter and it’s styled that exact way. If you get them hemmed do it with the most minimal reduction cause it will mess up the silhouette as it affects the way it rests. It’ll get this wide leg puffed out look if you have them floating above the ground so keep that in mind.

Fabric, fit, and shoe advice for cargobela cargo pants
If it’s the TF fabric it’s a lightly structured, surprisingly soft crinkled taffeta. Makes a shh-shh when your legs rub. Poly doesn’t breathe but the roomier fit makes it more comfy than it would be otherwise. These are looser than the Bolans and those were perfectly fine when I tried them on. They’re fine with most shoes. Probably just avoid anything super low profile to minimize fabric dragging/tearing and also make the drape on the foot a little more interesting instead of just a smushed puddle of fabric right on top of your ankle. Though smushed puddles are cool, too, if that’s your thing. Enjoy ‘em!
