Product Insights

The Icône Cinched Waist Loose Jacquard Knit Blazer ($99 CAD) is a sustainable structured blazer made from reprocessed polyester, reducing energy use by 45–85% and CO₂ emissions by 30–60% versus virgin. Its stretchy knit, built-in shoulder pads, piped pockets, and back vent deliver tailored comfort and movement, while the waist is fixed by cut, not adjustable. It resists wrinkles, wicks moisture, and layers from day to night, but requires delicate washing and low-heat ironing to preserve the jacquard pattern.

Verified claims

Sustainability
Reprocessed polyester shell reduces energy use 45–85% and CO2 emissions 30–60% vs virgin.
Competitive positioning
At $99 CAD, this blazer's reprocessed polyester sets it apart from G2000 (virgin blend) and Quince ($110, no recycled).
Shoulder pads
Built-in shoulder pads create a permanent structured silhouette.
Fit and construction
Stretchy knit, piped pockets, and back vent allow movement and tailored look.
Versatility
Works for both day and evening, layers easily under a coat.
Waist mechanism
Loose blazer's slight waist fit is tailored cut, not adjustable
Waist comfort
Stretch jacquard, spandex lining give cinched waist flexible comfort
Back vent
Centre back vent prevents bunching and keeps waist streamlined
Hand and drape
Soft, stretchy knit with 20-30% weft stretch offers fluid drape and cardigan-like comfort.
Pattern quality
Knitted-in jacquard pattern resists fading and offers dimensional color.
Fit and styling
Knit blazer layers smoothly over fine fabrics; shoulder pads keep a structured silhouette.
Day-to-night styling
Layers without bulk over knits or silk, holds shape over button-downs, and transitions from denim to tailored trousers.
Fit and movement
The knit stretches ~20-30%, back vent prevents bunching, and spandex lining reduces friction.
Wrinkle resistance
Resists creasing far better than linen or cotton, snaps back after a day at a desk.
Tailoring details
Piped flap pockets elevate the tailoring compared to patch pockets on similar-priced blazers.
Structure
Satiny lining, shoulder pads, piped pockets, and back vent give it a structured tailored feel.
Waist cinch
Waist cinch is fixed by tailored cut, not adjustable.
Fabric
Reprocessed polyester matches virgin within 2–3% on moisture management, tensile strength, and colorfastness.
Environmental impact
Recycled polyester uses 45–85% less energy and emits 30–60% less CO₂ than virgin.
Washing
Use a mesh bag and delicate cycle with spin below 800 RPM to prevent pilling.
Ironing
Iron on reverse with a pressing cloth at low heat to protect the jacquard pattern.
Pilling
Resists pilling from everyday friction, but raised surface fibers may still pill.
Lining
Lining reduces tugging, glides over layers, and adds body for a structured fit.
Breathability
Knit loops circulate air, preventing woven polyester's stuffiness.
Moisture management
Reprocessed polyester wicks moisture and dries quickly, avoiding clamminess.
Layering
Slides easily over turtlenecks and camisoles without added bulk.
Pattern durability
Knit-in jacquard pattern will not crack, peel, or fade with washing and wear.
Pattern care
Preserving the jacquard pattern requires delicate washing and low-heat reverse ironing.
Piped flap pockets
Unlike the Quince knit blazer, this blazer has piped flap pockets.
Centre vent
Centre back vent prevents fabric bunching and riding up at the hips, ensuring clean drape.

Deep Research

Care and pilling for knit blazers

  • Jacquard knit's raised surface fibers break and pill when agitated against drum baffles at high spin speeds; a delicate cycle with a mesh laundry bag reduces friction, and keeping spin speeds below 800 RPM helps avoid the thermal softening that makes polyester jacquard especially pill-prone.
  • Polyester's low glass transition temperature (around 70–80°C) means a standard hot iron can permanently flatten the jacquard pattern and mar the satin lining; ironing only on the reverse side through a pressing cloth at a low heat setting removes creases while preserving the fabric's texture and the structural piping details.

How the loose cinched fit works on different body types

  • A centre back vent allows the loose body to drape uninterrupted over the hips, preventing the fabric from bunching or riding up — so the defined waist doesn’t come at the cost of a streamlined rear view, a common trade-off in cinched blazers without a vent.
  • The jacquard knit fabric is soft and stretchy, so the tailored waist shaping delivers definition without rigidity — the blazer moves with the body rather than fighting it, making it a forgiving option for midsections that need a bit more give while still maintaining a pulled-together silhouette.
  • The lining is blended with 5% spandex, adding a second layer of stretch that keeps the interior from pulling at the shell seams — important on a blazer with a sewn-in waist, because it reduces the tug-and-grab sensation that can happen when sitting or reaching.

How to style a jacquard knit blazer

  • Thanks to its lightweight polyester jacquard and satiny interior, this blazer slides easily over a fine-gauge turtleneck or a silk camisole without adding bulk, making it a year-round layering piece that can fit under a coat in winter and stand alone as outerwear in milder temperatures.
  • One of the defining advantages of a knit blazer is its ability to switch from casual to formal with a bottoms change — this Icône piece, with its notched collar and single-button closure, works as convincingly with dark denim and sneakers as it does over a pencil dress or with tailored trousers for evening engagements.
  • The all-over jacquard pattern eliminates the need for scarves or statement jewellery, letting you build a minimal look around the blazer as the focal point — choose the Patterned Ecru to lighten dark winter outfits or the Patterned Blue to add a subtle pop to neutrals.
  • Where many knit blazers lack shoulder padding and lining, reading as sweaters, the Icône's built-in shoulder pads and satiny lining give it enough structure to hold its shape over a crisp button-down or silk blouse — so it acts like a traditional soft-tailored blazer while keeping the stretch and comfort of knit.

Reprocessed polyester in fashion fabrics

  • Reprocessed polyester production uses 45–85% less energy and emits 30–60% fewer CO₂ emissions than virgin polyester, so choosing this blazer reduces the garment's climate footprint without sacrificing fabric quality.
  • Because recycled and virgin polyester share identical molecular structures once processed, the jacquard knit fabric has the same soft hand, drape, and consistent dye uptake as any high-quality polyester — the patterned ecru will not fade unevenly over time.
  • Approximately 98% of recycled polyester is derived from post-consumer PET bottles, meaning this blazer likely transforms several discarded plastic bottles into a wearable, long-life jacket rather than sending them to landfill.
  • Laboratory measurement finds recycled polyester's wicking speed, dry time, and breathability within 2–3% of virgin polyester, which means the blazer remains airy and comfortable in shoulder-season office environments without turning clammy.
  • Fabric tests on recycled polyester show tensile strength and abrasion resistance equivalent to virgin polyester, so the jacquard knit shell holds up to the friction of bags and seats while maintaining its structure.

How it compares to other $100 knit blazers

  • The blazer’s reprocessed polyester offers a post-consumer recycled story at $99 CAD — something absent from G2000’s virgin polyester/cotton/spandex blend (61.6% polyester at $79 SGD) and from Quince’s 100% organic cotton option, giving it a unique sustainability position among budget jacquard knits.
  • A built-in fine satiny lining — 95% polyester / 5% spandex — adds a smooth interior glide and extra body that the unlined Quince organic cotton blazer lacks, pushing this $99 CAD knit jacket closer to a traditional blazer feel than most budget competitors.
  • At $99 CAD, the Icône blazer comes in $11 below the Quince 100% Organic Cotton Knit Blazer ($110 CAD on the Canadian store), making it the slightly more accessible structured knit — while substituting organic cotton with stretch jacquard knit and reprocessed polyester for a different hand feel and eco angle.
  • Piped flap pockets rather than the patch pockets on Quince’s organic cotton blazer or the standard flap on G2000’s jacquard knit blazer elevate the tailoring, signaling a more polished intent that aligns with the Icône’s overall dressier silhouette.
  • With built-in shoulder pads, this blazer achieves a more authoritative silhouette than the unstructured Quince knit blazer — which specifically avoids stiffness — while echoing the structured shoulder design of upmarket options like Karen Gold’s £120 Midnight Jacquard Tailored Blazer, all for $99 CAD.

Jacquard knit fabric feel and drape

  • Jacquard knit fabrics have a fluid hand and drape that creates a softer, more relaxed silhouette than structured woven blazers — this piece reads as polished but not stiff, essentially a cardigan in a blazer's shape.
  • The knit construction inherently contains tiny air pockets that improve ventilation, so even with a polyester composition, this blazer avoids the plastic-y, stifling feel of a fully lined woven polyester jacket — it's comfortable across a range of indoor temperatures.
  • The jacquard construction knits the pattern directly into the fabric rather than printing it on the surface, so the design won't crack, peel, or fade with wear and washing — it remains visible for the life of the garment.
  • Because the fabric is knit rather than woven, it has about 20–30% stretch in the weft direction from the loop structure alone, and the brand's own 'soft and stretch' description suggests elastane for shape recovery, so this blazer moves with you instead of restricting arm lift or shoulder rotation like a rigid woven blazer.
  • The pattern is formed by knitted-in yarns rather than surface printing, creating a richer color depth and a subtle textural dimension that shifts slightly with movement — this is what gives the ecru and patterned colorways their visual interest.
  • The polyester-rich knit resists creasing far better than linen or cotton blazers; after a commute or a full day at a desk, it snaps back to smooth, and it's engineered to be packable without arriving crumpled.

Unconventional sizing

Cecile A.

I bought the XL it hung on me, shoulders, waist, underarms were extremely wide. I returned it and reordered the L. It was too small in the all the areas that the XL was too large. Either the sizing is wrong or the design is not right. the material and jacket are highly appealing,.

Q&A

2 answered
How does the cinched waist work? Is it an integrated belt or elastic, and can the cinching be adjusted?
The cinched waist is achieved through the tailored cut of the blazer rather than an integrated belt or elastic. It is designed as a loose style with a slight fitted shape at the waist, so the cinching is not adjustable.
Are the built-in shoulder pads removable?
The shoulder pads are built-in and sewn into the blazer's construction; they are not designed to be removable by the wearer without alteration.
