Product Insights

The Serena Square Sunglasses by KOMONO are a Belgian-designed hybrid square-cat-eye frame at $150 CAD, offering a balanced aesthetic for narrower-to-medium faces with a fixed 20mm bridge suited for high-arched or wider noses (may slip on flatter bridges) and 145mm temples that can be heat-adjusted by an optician. The bioplastic construction is lighter than acetate, plant-derived for sustainability, and reported to last years. UV400 lenses (Cat3 tint) block 100% of UVA/UVB but lack polarization and premium scratch resistance, with optical clarity below Ray-Ban yet above generic. Fixed hinges and non-adjustable bridge trade long-term fit versatility for design integrity, positioning these as a mid-priced European budget alternative to Quay and Ray-Ban.

Verified claims

Bridge fit
Fixed 20mm bridge suits high-arched or wider noses; may slip on flatter bridges
Face width
54mm lens width and ~130mm total frame suit narrower-to-medium faces without looking oversized
Temple fit
145mm temples can be heat-adjusted by an optician for a custom behind-the-ear fit
Frame shape
Hybrid square-cat-eye silhouette is less severe than pure squares
UV protection
UV400 lens blocks 100% of UVA and UVB rays up to 400 nm.
Tint rating
Level 3 UV protection rating refers to Category 3 tint, which blocks 82-92% visible light.
Polarization
Not polarized; Quay offers polarized lenses from $65 to $95 USD.
Scratch resistance
Standard scratch-resistant hard coat, not a premium upgrade.
Optical quality
Buyers: flat lenses, clarity below Ray-Ban but above generic.
Silhouette
Outer corners of the square frame tilt upward for a cat-eye lift.
Comfort
Lighter than acetate frames, the bioplastic reduces pressure marks and temples adjust for fit.
Material
Bioplastic is plant-derived, a sustainability feature rare at this price.
Care
Rinse lenses with water before wiping to prevent micro-scratches.
Positioning
Belgian-designed mid-priced alternative to Quay and Ray-Ban, with bioplastic frame and cat-eye silhouette.
Lens quality
Full UV protection (UV400, Cat 3) but lacks polarization and adjustable nose pads.
Design origin
Belgian-designed hybrid square-cateye frame at $150 CAD.
Design tradeoff
Flat non-polarized lenses prioritize style over function.
Brand value
Buyers report 6-year durability and European budget brand reputation.
Frame construction
Fixed hinges and non-adjustable bridge may affect long-term fit and durability.
Brand longevity
Buyers report Komono sunglasses lasting years across different models.

  • User shares positive experience with Komono durability

Had a pair lasted me for like 6 years. Lenses were actually made of glass i believe and a metal frame

  • User reviews Komono Clements as decent budget option but prefers Ray-Ban

I own Komono Clements. Been happy with them. 40 euros, better than market tier, but Ray-Bans blow them out of the water though. But, they're 40 euros. The lenses aren't rounded or anything, thus they really don't have 3D shape. 3/5 would not buy again since I'm going to invest in a better pair but I'd recommend them.
