Product Insights

The CADDIS Miklos Rectangular Reading Glasses offer a unisex bold frame with a wide 20mm bridge and adjustable temple arms, ensuring a comfortable fit for both larger and smaller faces, but the reading zone is too small, requiring an upward head tilt, and only +1.5 and +2.0 strengths are available. The durable 5-barrel hinge lasts over eight years and is easily repairable, while the bio-acetate frame is hypoallergenic and comparable to $200+ designer frames, justifying the $160 CAD price. Lenses include scratch-resistant, anti-reflective, and smudge-repellent coatings; care requires mild soap and water. The top edge is engraved with 'PORT' and 'STARBOARD', and the eco-conscious packaging lacks a protective pouch.

Verified claims

Width dimensions
52 mm lens and 143 mm total width suit a range of face sizes.
Bridge clearance
20 mm bridge, widest standard, gives nose clearance with adjustable fit.
Reading zone
Buyers report the reading zone is too small, requiring an upward head tilt to read.
Strength options
Only +1.5 and +2.0 strengths are available, restricting who can use them.
Hinge durability
The 5-barrel hinge lasts approximately twice as long as traditional metal hinges and has been linked to up to 35% fewer hinge-related warranty claims.
Repairability
Any optician can tighten or swap the 5-barrel hinge in seconds.
Acetate compatibility
Five-barrel hinge provides wide joint without excessive temple routing for acetate frames.
Value
Uses the same bio-acetate as $200+ designer frames, justifying its $160 CAD price.
Coatings
Lenses include scratch-resistant, anti-reflective, and smudge-repellent coatings.
Care
Clean with mild soap and water; avoid heat, abrasives, and chemical cleaners.
Design philosophy
Unisex bold frame with universal fit and engraved nautical quirk.
Build
5-barrel hinges with 8+ year lifespan; lenses with scratch- and smudge-resistant coatings.
Packaging
Eco-conscious frame ships in oversized box without protective pouch.
Home adjustment
Temple arms can be reshaped at home with warm water or hair dryer
Hypoallergenic
Bio-acetate frame is phthalate-free and hypoallergenic.
Engraving

Reading strengths
The Miklos is offered in +1.5 and +2.0 strengths only; +1.0, +2.5, and +3.0 are not available in this style.
Engraving options
There is no known option to order the frames without the PORT and STARBOARD engravings on the top edge.
Temple fit caveat
One buyer found the temple arms too tight and got a headache, though they liked the frame's shape and style.
Temple adjustability
The temples contain a wire core that an optician can curve around the ears to add about 5–10 mm of effective wrap, making the fit tighter or looser as needed.
Bio-acetate properties
The frame is 60–70% renewable cellulose from wood pulp and cotton, and uses plant-based plasticizers that make it phthalate-free and hypoallergenic.
Frame durability
The bio-acetate frame passes quality controls for shock resistance and sustained UV exposure without brittleness or fading.

Uses

Daily reading and screen work with a sturdy frame

These reading glasses are used for everyday reading and computer work, with a sturdy build that holds up to daily use and a fit most reviewers found comfortable. The temples have a wire core intended for a customizable fit, though one reviewer found the arms tight enough to cause a headache during extended wear.[2,3,5]

A statement frame for social wear

CADDIS positions the Miklos's large square frame as a choice for making a daring style statement, and reviewers report the shape looks as advertised and draws compliments. Its sturdy, solid feel is reportedly a plus for people with larger faces, while some with smaller faces like it as a frame that stands out. A pick for style-forward eyewear at social occasions.[3,5]

A lighter backup pair for repeat CADDIS wearers

One repeat buyer of CADDIS reading glasses chose this model as a lighter backup pair, saying the weight of their previous pair was a factor in the decision. Per the review, this lighter frame addressed that concern for them.[5]

Reading with non-prescription progressive readers

The Miklos can be ordered as non-prescription progressive readers, a lens configuration one commenter chose for reading. Their first-day experience was mixed: they found the frames nice, but reported having to tilt their head up to reach the reading portion and felt the reading lens area could be bigger.[4]

Miklos Rectangular Reading Glasses: Choose this if you want a thick, lightweight bio-acetate frame with a large fit that works for both bigger and smaller faces and doubles as a standout style piece for everyday reading, computer work, or social wear; it comes in Taupe or Green with 1.5 or 2.0 magnification, scratch-resistant and smudge-repellent lens coatings, 5-barrel industrial hinges, and an included signature storage pouch. Note that some reviewers found the arms tight, which may cause headaches for pressure-sensitive wearers during extended use, so sizing care is advised.[1,3,5]Neta Reading Glasses: Choose these reading glasses if you want a rectangle frame (described by the brand as ideal for square, heart, and round faces) in a durable bio-acetate build with integrated acetate nose pads and 5-barrel hinges built to withstand over 25,000 flex cycles. The lenses carry a hard scratch-protective coating plus a water, dirt, and grease-repellent coating that the listing says eases cleaning, and the frames measure 53 mm eye width, an 18 mm bridge, and 140 mm temple arms. They come in 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 magnifications; note that the Brown colorway is listed only in the 2.0 strength, while Black is offered in all three.[6,7]Wabi Sabi Rounded Square Reading Glasses: Choose this if you want a lightweight, comfortable reading frame made of bio-based acetate, available in magnifications of 1.5 and 2.0 in Taupe. It suits shoppers drawn to a glossy tortoiseshell, rounded-square full-rim look, with practical details like 5-barrel industrial hinges, scratch-resistant and water, dirt, and grease-repellent lens coatings, and an included signature storage pouch. Note that one customer found the frame beautiful but was unsure the progressive lenses were working for them personally, so lens fit may take adjustment.[8,9,10,11,12]

  • User's detailed experience with Caddis Miklos progressive readers, highlighting pros and cons.

Just got mine today. Very nice frames. Miklos in purple. I am having to tilt my head up to use the reading portion ( I got progressive readers, non prescription). The reading lens part could be bigger.   Pulling your chin up to read really makes you look old.  Also I did not know the words "PORT" and "STARBOARD " would be engraved on the top edge of the frames in all caps. Besides being ugly, it's just weird. Not cute...maybe some sort of company inside joke? Edited to add: as someone else mentioned, the glasses are in a too-big box inside a slider. Could easily be less packaging. And no pouch.
