Product Insights
Jimmy Fairly's Elvie Narrow Oval Sunglasses pair charitable giving (a pair donated for every pair sold) with German-engineered durability (five-point metal hinge, color-through acetate that resists scratches and warping) at a 240 CAD price point, but trade off universal fit — the narrow 48 mm eye width and non-polarized Category 3 lenses limit suitability to narrow-to-average faces and reflective-glare environments, while occasional prescription-order errors and heat sensitivity add purchase considerations.
Verified claims
- Charitable giving
- A pair of glasses donated for every pair sold.
- Hinge
- German-engineered 5-point metal hinge resists loosening and maintains alignment.
- Durability
- Shallow scratches buffable due to through-color; temple reinforcement prevents warping.
- Heat sensitivity
- Avoid prolonged heat and direct sunlight to prevent warping or fading.
- Dimensions
- 48 mm eye width, 20 mm bridge, 145 mm temple; narrow frame suited to narrow-to-average faces.
- Polarization
- Non-polarized lenses block UV but not reflective glare from water or snow.
- Tint
- Level 3 tint transmits 8–18% of visible light, legal for driving, too dark for overcast.
- Prescription accuracy
- Buyers report receiving wrong prescription type in some orders.
- Prescription lenses
- Prescription lenses available, but buyers report receiving wrong prescription type.
- Weight
- Acetate frame weighs 15–25 grams, roughly a third less than metal.
- Stability
- Five-point metal hinge and temple reinforcement keep frames aligned without readjustment.
- Fit

Quality and charity aspect of Jimmy Fairly
Jimmy Fairley are made in France and Italy, they start at around €100 (I know not exactly under budget). They offer a free pair to a charity for every pair sold.

Mixed experience ordering Jimmy Fairly from the US
I was in Paris in July and ordered two pairs of progressives (they were buy one get one) on my last day in Paris. They promised to ship them to me. This was July 18th. I followed up a few weeks later via WhatsApp and they were ‘ready at the store’ but offered to ship them for free. They let me know that it should take a week to ten days, but they occasionally have customs issues. Whomever handles their WhatsApp chat is extremely kind and professional. It took several days to receive tracking, they were delayed in US customs a few days (they handled this all on their end) and arrived today. They shipped ‘no signature required’, so $800 worth of glasses were on the driveway when I got home from Pilates. When I tried them on, something is not correct. The top portion is blurry, so I fear that they made me full readers vs the progressives that I ordered. Thankfully, I will be back in Paris in mid September and then again in late October, but it’s been an interesting experience, but at least their team has been kind and easy to work with.
