Product Insights

Adidas Originals' 6-pack of contrasting triple-stripe socks (35 CAD, 2-star rating) blends iconic trefoil and stripe heritage with 48% recycled polyester for breathability and a terry-loop cushioned sole that traps warmth. However, durability tradeoffs dominate: buyers report holes and thinning within months, especially in newer packs, leading to poor value at $5.83/pair compared to more durable alternatives like PUMA. The cushioned sole also increases footbed warmth, offsetting breathability, while careful washing at 40°C and air drying can extend life. The triple-stripe style is chosen over longevity, as buyers accept shorter wear for the aesthetic.

Deep Research

How this six-pack compares in value

  • At 48% recycled polyester and 1% recycled polyamide, nearly half the sock's fibre is reclaimed — a sustainability feature absent from PUMA’s all-terry 6-Pack ($14.99 USD) and rarely spelled out in standard Originals packs like the Trefoil 2.0, giving eco-aware buyers a concrete reason to choose this set.
  • The adidas x Wales Bonner Striped Logo Socks two-pack sells for $69 CAD ($34.50 per pair) on the same platform, meaning this six-pack’s $5.83-per-pair cost delivers the Originals triple-stripe graphic at roughly one-sixth the per-pair price of a designer collaboration — a practical way to wear the 3-Stripes daily without the collab premium.
  • The adidas Originals Trefoil badge and contrasting stripe execution mark this multipack as part of the brand's lifestyle-focused sub-label rather than its performance line, a positioning that routinely commands a higher price over plain athletic crews in the six-pack segment.
  • At $5.83 CAD per pair, this Originals set costs roughly 70% more than PUMA’s Women's Crew Socks 6-Pack ($14.99 USD, approximately $3.42 CAD per pair), a gap that reflects the recycled blend, elastic edging, and the streetwear design rather than offering a basic athletic sock.

Fit consistency for shoe sizes 6–10

  • The sock's cotton-recycled polyester blend includes 2% elastane—a targeted amount that gives the knit enough stretch to comfortably fit US women's shoe sizes 6 through 10 without relying on multi-size packaging, so one medium pair adapts to a wide range of foot volumes.

How the cotton-recycled blend performs

  • At 48%, recycled polyester content is high for a cotton‑blend sock; thermal‑comfort research on socks made from virgin cotton and recycled polyester demonstrates that increasing recycled polyester raises air permeability and relative water‑vapour permeability while making the fabric thinner and more porous — for daily wear that translates into a sock that feels lighter, breathes more actively, and loses the damp, clingy sensation that all‑cotton socks can hold onto after sweating or washing.

How to wash and care for these socks to last

  • Turning the socks inside out protects the triple-stripe outer surface from pilling and abrasion in the drum, while letting the detergent reach the sweat and dead skin on the inside — a quick step that markedly reduces visible wear on the graphic over time.
  • A mesh bag keeps the socks from tangling with other garments, overstretching around the agitator, or snagging on zippers — a small accessory that directly reduces the mechanical stress responsible for thinning and holes in everyday use.
  • Fabric softener coats the fibers with a waxy film that reduces moisture absorption by up to 30% and chemically degrades elastane, causing the socks to lose their fit faster — a splash of white vinegar in the rinse compartment delivers softness without damaging the elastic.
  • Washing at 40°C reliably removes bacteria and odors without breaking down the elastane, which loses an estimated 20–30% lifespan when regularly washed at 60°C — this temperature threshold is the single most impactful habit for preserving the snug, stay-put fit these socks rely on.
  • Ball-rolling the socks overstretches the cuff elastic — after 50+ cycles the waistband loses its recovery force and the sock begins to sag; folding the pair in half or laying them flat keeps the edging tight for the life of the sock.
  • The care tags forbid tumble drying because the heat and mechanical action can permanently stretch and weaken the elastane fibers — air-drying flat or hung lets the elastic recover its grip, and experts note that skipping the dryer can double a sock's usable life.

Cushioned sole construction and comfort

  • The cushioned comfort sole uses terry loops — tiny yarn loops knitted into the sole that create a plush, shock-absorbing layer — which reduces impact on hard surfaces and dampens friction against the shoe, making these socks noticeably more comfortable during long periods of standing or walking than a flat-knit alternative.
  • Because terry-loop cushioning traps air and increases thermal qualities, these socks run warmer than non-cushioned dress socks, making them better suited for pairing with sneakers or boots in cooler conditions rather than with lightweight loafers in hot weather.

The history behind the three stripes

  • The Adidas Originals label, which issues these socks, is the exclusive home of the trefoil logo, launched in 1972 with three leaves representing the Americas, Europe/Africa, and Asia — connecting every Originals piece, including this sock set, to the brand’s first dedicated lifestyle collection and its continental-spanning symbolism.

Not worth the price.

Judith P.

These socks are flimsy and seem larger than a woman’s medium. Perhaps I was sent men’s? They were expensive but look cheap, not ar all like Adidas socks I have in my sock drawer. I won’t bother to return them, will give them away. But I probably won’t order from Simon’s online again. .
