Product Insights

The Mykonos Necklace by Twenty Compass is a gold-plated stainless steel bead chain necklace with a 16-to-19-inch adjustable length, offering versatile styling at a mid-tier $45 CAD. Its uniform shimmer and minimalist design suit layering but are undercut by reported rapid plating wear and nickel exposure risks for sensitive skin. Clasp tension typically diminishes within 6–18 months, and care requires post-swim/gym rinsing and application of lotions before wear. While adjustable length and bead chain differentiate it from fixed-length alternatives, purchase risk is elevated by store-credit-only returns and slow direct customer service, making in-store support at Simons the more reliable avenue.

Verified claims

Plating wear
Buyers report gold plating wears off after the first wear.
Hypoallergenic
Buyers with sensitive skin risk irritation once plating wears off due to nickel.
Length adjustability
Adaptable from 16-inch choker to 18–19-inch pendant; fits crew necks and V-necks.
Market comparison
Adjustable 16-19-inch range outpaces fixed-length Mykonos alternatives.
Care
Apply lotion and perfume before wearing; rinse after swimming or gym.
Clasp longevity
Pinch-test spring-ring clasp monthly; tension loss occurs after 6-18 months.
Price positioning
Mid-tier price at $45 CAD, between ~$12 and ~$65 USD competitors.
Durability
Gold-plated stainless steel core, but buyers report plating wears off quickly.
Design versatility
Adjustable from 16 to 19 inches; bead chain design is a differentiator.
Purchase risk
Buyers report store credit only for returns and slow customer service.
Finish
Bead chain has subtle shimmer and uniform gold-plated finish.
Layering
16-inch base adjusts with extender for choker-to-princess layering.
Competitive position
At $45 CAD, bead chain design differentiates from standard-link competitors.
Skin safety
Gold plating prevents skin reaction; underlying steel may contain nickel.
Visual quality
Uniform gold beads catch light for subtle shimmer in layered looks.
Design longevity
Minimalist design remains stylistically relevant across seasons.
Brand story
Canadian brand by a high-school jewelry maker, sold at Simons.
Return policy
Simons offers in-store returns; direct orders limited to store credit.
Customer service
Direct customer service is reportedly time-consuming and unhelpful; Simons offers reliable in-store support.

Source Threads

  • Negative review of Twenty Compass quality and customer service

Really bad quality of gold. Their plated product goes off after the first time I wear them. I bought two different rings, both really cheap. Really disappointed from their products and the customer services. Even if they admit that their products have a default, they would not want to refund me. They wanted me to return the product and give me a store credit. Which is all on the customer to paid for their poor quality product and shipping. Would not recommend to anyone. Be careful, it has been time consuming to try to deal with them
