Product Insights
The Simons Classic Headband is a 9 CAD plastic accessory that prioritizes comfort for sensitive scalps, especially fine, thinning, or chemically treated hair, by minimizing snagging and pressure through short teeth, which trade hold strength against slippery hair (remediable with firm-hold product). Its slight flexibility conforms to head shapes but necessitates avoiding aggressive bending and hot water to prevent cracking or warping; cleaning requires mild soap and lukewarm water, and breaks can be super-glued. The 0.5-inch profile enables five styling placements, evoking retro 60s/70s, 90s supermodel, or Y2K looks, and the brand triggers a Mandela Effect memory of Richard Simmons.

- Flexibility
- 100% plastic is slightly flexible to conform to different head shapes.
- Durability
- Avoid aggressive bending and hot water to prevent cracking and warping.
- Comfort
- The headband prioritizes comfort for sensitive scalps, especially fine, thinning, or chemically treated hair, by minimizing snagging and pressure through its short teeth; at least one buyer confirms it doesn't hurt the ears, though extended-wear comfort varies by head shape.
- Hair grip
- Short teeth: gentle for fine hair, less grip on fine or slippery hair.
- Styling product
- Using a firm-hold gel helps the short teeth anchor the headband on fine or sparse hair.
- Cleaning
- Clean with mild soap and lukewarm water; avoid hot water and alcohol.
- Repair
- A clean break can be repaired with super glue; allow 24-hour cure.
- Styling placement
- The 0.5-inch profile supports six styling placements: retro forehead, modern crown, high-ponytail accent, piece-y pixie, 90s blowout, and Y2K off-duty looks.
- Hair suitability
- Short teeth minimize scalp pressure for fine, thinning, or chemically treated hair.

- Flexibility and fit
- The one-size headband is slightly flexible and can bend to fit different head sizes; some buyers confirm it fits even when it initially looks small, while others find it too small.
- Shape retention
- Some buyers report the plastic band loses tension and becomes too loose over time, then begins falling off.
- Lightweight all-day wear
- The headband is made of lightweight plastic with a thin, low-profile build, so it puts very little weight or bulk against the head; it is suitable for all-day wear, with fit—not weight—being the main thing to watch.
- Width and profile
- The band measures 0.5 inches (1 cm) across, giving it a low-profile, minimalist silhouette that sits close to the scalp instead of adding height.
- Grip mechanism
- The hold comes only from the short plastic teeth; there is no silicone or rubberized grip and no fabric lining.

Everyday light hold with a toothed headband
Simons' Classic Headband has short teeth along the inner edge meant to keep hair in place, and some reviewers found it initially comfortable and secure for everyday light hold. Fit runs small, though — the snugger circumference works well for children or petite adults, while some say it feels child-sized. Some users also report the band stretching out quickly, which affects long-term reliability.[1]
Pain-free wear for sensitive ears
This headband is meant for people whose ears get sore from traditional headbands. According to a review analysis, its no-pressure, no-pinch design is said to prevent the ear pain that other headbands can cause, making it a comfortable choice for sensitive-ear wearers.[1]
Product comparison
Compared within this brand.
| Classic Headband: Choose this if you have sensitive ears — its no-pinch, no-pressure design is reported to eliminate the ear pain common with traditional headbands, and its smaller circumference gives a snug fit for children or petite adults. The thin, glossy plastic band with short inner teeth is meant for a perfect hold and is initially comfortable and secure for everyday light wear. Note that sizing is unpredictable (some find it child-sized, so measure if you have a larger head), the teeth don't reach hair behind the ears, and some users report the band stretches out quickly during movement, making long-term reliability hit-or-miss.[1,2] | Faux-Leather Headband: Choose this if you want a slim, low-profile headband that sits close to the head: the semi-circular, flexible band has a rounded cross-section, a smooth faux-leather outer with subtle pebble texture, and tapered open ends with no visible metal or fasteners, plus a soft, matte suede-like lining. It comes in one size and five colors (Black, Off White, Brown, Mossy Green, and Burgundy), though the detailed appearance descriptions cover the Black variant, which shows a black outer and tan lining. Note the material is listed as mixed materials, and the band's flexibility is based on visual assessment of the product photo rather than a manufacturer claim.[3,4] | Satiny Colour Headband: Choose this if you want a simple, elegant black hair accessory — Simons describes it as the perfect finishing touch to any look. It is a one-size headband with a padded, dome-shaped profile about 1.25 inches (3.5 cm) wide, covered in smooth satiny fabric with a subtle sheen, rounded tips, and a darker matte inner lining. Note that the main material is plastic, which may matter if you prefer fabric-only construction.[5,6] |

love the teeth!
Looked too small but flexible and totally fits, not too tight. Wish the teeth went further down the band to help keep hair in place behind ears as well as over the top.

The discussions center on a collective false memory, with no strong positive or negative sentiment towards the headband itself; it's a curious phenomenon.

Jane Fonda Theory for Headband Memory
Theory - The reason so many people picture a headband is because of Jane Fonda. It's just that Fonda's largely been forgotten culturally when it comes to fitness and Simmons is still remembered for fitness. It's one of those weird things that happens. My guess would be the headband migrated over to Simmons from Fonda.
