Product Insights

The Brooklyn Leather Hobo Bag by Coach is a modern reinterpretation of the brand's first tote, embodying a distinctly New York attitude. Its full-grain glovetanned leather develops a love-worn patina over time, though reactions vary from cherished character to perceived deterioration. The unlined interior reduces weight to about 0.5 kg but feels rough and requires careful handling; the strap lacks grip and slides off when the bag is full, a trade-off accepted for easy access via magnetic snap sides. A reinforced base maintains upright shape as the leather softens. Corner wear is reversible with conditioning every 2-3 months. Viral success from Bella Hadid and TikTok drove a 332% demand surge, positioning the bag as a minimalist, accessible option for Gen Z pivoting from logomania. At $360 CAD, it costs more than double a comparable Longchamp Le Pliage, but the price is justified by leather craftsmanship, despite the trade-offs in interior finish and strap stability.

  • Disappointment with leather quality after seeing well-loved bag

I was pretty surprised at how terribly the leather had held up. A bag is meant to be used and it was great to see it so well loved! But I was disappointed in the quality and felt the bag would look a bit ratty after use. I actually decided not to buy the bag after that experience.

  • Brooklyn 39 as travel bag: holds shape, easy to carry

I have the Brooklyn 39 and am currently using it as a travel/carry-on bag for my European vacation. It's been shoved under seats and packed chock full and it holds its shape so well and is so easy to carry. I think it will age very well and the silhouette is timeless, at least to me. It's one of the few coach bags I've bought on sight and I think I'll carry it for years. Definitely worth it IMO

  • Brooklyn 39 for work and travel: lightweight and comfortable

I bought the 39 in maple for work and travel. It can be a little awkward to get a bigger laptop in it (I have a 15inch MacBook Pro), however I find that because this bag is so much lighter than my other totes for work it is way more comfortable to wear which makes up for that. It is easier for me to navigate around people when taking public transit because of how slender the design is vs my other totes (Rae tote being my normal go to). I also like that it doesn’t make a bunch of noise when I move it around in the office since it doesn’t have the clip on shoulder straps. I can still fit everything I need in it and have easy access to my phone and wallet with the side pocket. This is a bag that I expect to get worn out and that’s exactly what I bought it for. For me it’s the perfect dump it in and go type of bag.

  • Loving the 39: treats like a tote, expects it to age well

I love my 39. I treat it like a basic tote bag—throw whatever I want in there, wear it with anything from sweatpants to my work outfits, and store it away easily. I think this is one of those bags that will only get better with age. It’ll be hard to watch the gorgeous leather scuff up, but I think when I’m still carrying it in 20 years it will have developed a wonderful personality.

  • Corner wear on Maple 39, but leather conditioner restores it

I’ve had her since November, and she’s gotten very soft and slouchy(it’s already slouchy obviously), but there is slight wear on the corners. However whenever I rub the leather conditioner over it, it’s as good as new

    u/Longjumping_Rough932r/CoachView thread →

  • Returned Brooklyn 28: cheap interior, thin leather, odd strap construction

Some cons I couldn’t live with include: the inside raw edge just felt cheap and dry to me since I have vintage Coach bags that I got for cheaper, I’m against rolled corners of the bag since they can show wear and tear easily, the leather felt really thin and I’m kinda rough with my bags so I wasn’t a fan, and the shoulder strap is stiff on the sides and that seemed odd to me in its construction.
