Fletcher Wool Hallway Rug 70 X 245 Cm
This is a rectangular hallway runner rug made of 100% wool, measuring 70 x 245 cm (27 x 96 inches) with a pile height of 1.5 cm (0.6 inches). It features a geometric checkerboard pattern of tone-on-tone blocks and subtle stripes, inspired by Bauhaus design, and is manufactured in India. Primarily used for narrow spaces such as hallways or entryways, it requires a rug pad for safety; user reviews indicate that wool rugs may shed initially and that shedding decreases over time with regular vacuuming.

Product Insights
The Fletcher Wool Hallway Rug by Momeni is a hand-tufted 100% wool runner (70x245 cm) with a 0.6-inch pile featuring raised blocks for a three-dimensional surface. Its tonal green palette, with shade variation, fits mid-century modern, rustic contemporary, and Scandinavian interiors. The checkerboard pattern visually elongates hallways and meets standard clearances with 10-20 cm sides and 15-25 cm ends. The wool's lanolin causes liquid spills to bead for easy blotting, and it self-extinguishes due to high nitrogen content. Initial shedding is normal and lessens with suction-only vacuuming 2-3 times per week; proper care yields a 20-25 year lifespan. At $339 CAD, cost averages ~$14-17 per year, outperforming synthetic blends in resilience and safety, though shedding is an early tradeoff.
Verified claims
- Hand-tufted craftsmanship
- Hand-tufted 100% wool pile at 0.6 inches with raised blocks for a three-dimensional surface.
- Color palette
- Tonal green palette uses shade variation for depth, fitting mid-century modern, rustic contemporary, and Scandinavian interiors.
- Texture
- Raised wool blocks create a three-dimensional surface with tactile depth.
- Care
- Maintain the runner with suction-only vacuuming (no beater bar), 180-degree rotation every six months, and a professional cold-water wash every 18–24 months instead of steam cleaning.
- Colorway styling
- Five-colorway collection positions green runner for mid-century, rustic, Scandinavian interiors.
- Spatial flow
- Checkerboard pattern draws the eye forward, making narrow hallways feel longer.
- Hallway fit
- At 70x245 cm, the runner meets standard hallway clearances: 10-20 cm sides, 15-25 cm ends, and clears doors with 0.6-inch pile.
- Door clearance
- 0.6-inch pile height clears most interior door sweeps.
- Doubling up
- Two runners can be placed end-to-end for longer hallways, maintaining consistent gaps.
- Shedding
- Shedding is normal for new wool rugs; it typically lessens after a few weeks to a couple of months with regular vacuuming, though some minimal shedding may persist.
- Vacuuming
- Vacuum 2–3 times per week using suction-only mode without a beater bar to control shedding and preserve the wool face.
- Durability
- With proper maintenance, this hand-tufted runner has a lifespan of 20–25 years.
- Wool content
- 100% wool outperforms polyester/jute blends in resilience, spill resistance, and safety.
- Stain defense
- Lanolin causes liquid spills to bead up for easy blotting before staining.
- Fire safety
- Wool smolders and self-extinguishes due to high nitrogen content.
- Placement
- Placeable in entryways, beside beds, or layered under small furniture.
- Style compatibility
- Greens and taupes fit mid-century modern, rustic contemporary, Scandinavian rooms.
- Value
- $339 CAD spread over a 20–25 year lifespan works out to roughly $14–17 per year.
- Design
- Bauhaus checkerboard pattern visually lengthens hallways and helps hide everyday dust and light scuffs, with five colorways for varied decors.
- Brand heritage
- Since 1975, Momeni has been a trusted rug specialist sold by specialist retailers.
- Rug pad recommendation
- On hardwood floors, use a felt-and-rubber rug pad—felt layer against the rug, rubber grid against the floor—to cushion the wool and prevent slipping; avoid PVC or vinyl pads, which can damage the finish.
- Spot cleaning
- Small spills can be spot-cleaned with a mild detergent and water, blotting gently to avoid saturating the fibers; larger stains or routine deep cleaning should go to a professional.
- Pattern contrast
- The tone-on-tone checkerboard is intentionally subtle rather than stark, with gentle contrast and a soft palette, while the bold lines still give it a graphic look.
- Spill temperature
- When blotting spills, always use cold water; hot water can permanently set protein-based stains like coffee or red wine into wool fibers.
- Moth prevention
- Vacuum the underside of the runner every two to three months to remove moth eggs and larvae, and use a quality rug pad to lift the rug and improve airflow, disrupting the undisturbed habitat clothes moths need to breed.
- Traffic resilience
- Wool's naturally crimped fibers act like springs, letting the pile bounce back after repeated foot traffic and resist permanent flattening in hallways and on stairs.

Longtime Momeni rug user shares shedding experience
I really like Momeni rugs—I’ve used them for years. They are not a Target specific brand. The brand is offered at many US retailers. The Momeni rugs I have do shed especially at first. The shedding does slow time with time.
