Product Insights
The Earthy Stripes Woven Hallway Rug from Simons Maison is an eco-friendly runner for standard hallways: its 75x215 cm size and low-profile flatweave clear inward-swinging doors and leave balanced borders, while lengthwise irregular stripes visually elongate the corridor. Made from recycled cotton that uses 80% less water and diverts textile waste, it offers a unique rustic texture. At 79 CAD (about 49 CAD/m²), it undercuts the brand's synthetic alternative by 23%. However, the natural fiber variation means it may shed lightly at first and its nubby texture may flatten in high-traffic areas; cold-water cleaning and flat drying are required, and a rug pad helps reduce flattening, making it best for moderate traffic.
- Hallway fit
The 75x215 cm runner leaves a 10–15 cm border on each side of a 95–105 cm hallway and a 15–30 cm gap at each end.
Why this is supported
The 75x215 cm runner has a 2.9:1 length-to-width ratio, matching the classic runner definition that
A runner rug is defined by its proportions—typically three times longer than it is wide
rugknots.com. For hallway width, it leaves the recommended border:
Aim for a consistent border of 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inches) on each side.
landofrugs.com. And for length, it fits the formula:
Total Hallway Length - 30 cm (for the start gap) - 30 cm (for the end gap) = Ideal Runner Length
landofrugs.com, yielding the stated end gaps.
- Door clearance
Low-profile flatweave clears under inward-swinging doors.
Why this is supported
The runner is a woven flatweave made of 100% reprocessed cotton, giving it a thin profile. As noted in research,
A low-pile or flatweave runner is often a practical choice for areas with low door clearance.
landofrugs.com. This ensures it clears under inward-swinging doors.
- Visual elongation
The lengthwise irregular stripes draw the eye forward, visually lengthening the corridor.
Why this is supported
The rug's pattern consists of lengthwise irregular stripes. According to research,
A runner with longitudinal stripes or a strong directional pattern will draw the eye forward, accentuating the length of the hall and creating a sense of graceful flow.
landofrugs.com. This creates a visual elongation effect.
- Environmental impact
80% less water than virgin cotton and diverts textile waste from landfills.

- Texture
Recycled cotton's natural fiber variation gives each rug a unique rustic texture.
Why this is supported
The recycled cotton's fiber structure produces neps—small fiber tangles—that at

- Shedding
May shed lightly at first, typical for reprocessed cotton rugs.
Why this is supported
The short-fiber structure can cause light initial shedding. Buyer Q&A notes:
it may shed lightly at first
How does this rug hold up under daily foot traffic in a hallway? Does it show wear or shedding over time?. This shedding diminishes over time.
- Flattening
Nubby texture may flatten in high-traffic areas over time.
Why this is supported
In high-traffic hallways, the nubby texture may gradually flatten as short fibers compress. Q&A states:
some flattening or wear can occur in high-traffic areas
How does this rug hold up under daily foot traffic in a hallway? Does it show wear or shedding over time?.
- Longevity
Low profile for door clearance; moderate shedding eases; rug pad reduces flattening.
Why this is supported
The flatweave construction ensures door clearance:
