Product Insights
The Hyacinth Natural Tones Indoor Rug by Morris & Co. presents a 1911 John Henry Dearle jacquard pattern, originally a wallpaper, now a flatweave rug in muted sage, olive, and coral. Its 70% recycled PET and 30% wool blend offers softness and durability with a synthetic feel, but the 3mm flatweave lacks cushioning and edges may curl initially, requiring a rug pad for safety. The rug is floorheating-compatible, yet its latex-backed polyester backing can trap moisture, and repeated washing may cause fading and pilling. At CAD $1479, the authentic heritage design and sustainable materials justify the premium over comparable rugs, though the tradeoff lies in a less plush underfoot feel and the need for careful maintenance.
Verified claims
- Design attribution
- Pattern designed by John Henry Dearle (c.1911), not William Morris as often credited.
- Hand feel
- 70% PET gives a synthetic feel; 30% wool adds a natural softness.
- Underfoot feel
- 3mm flatweave has no cushioning but wool makes it feel soft.
- Flatness
- Edges may curl out of the box but flatten within a few days.
- Size tolerance
- Rug size can vary up to ±5% from nominal dimensions; plan using the lower bound.
- Settling
- Rug may curl from packaging but flattens within days with a pad.
- Underfloor heating
- Floorheating-compatible rug with low TOG and moisture-buffering wool.
- Traffic suitability
- Edges curl after washing, requiring a rug pad to avoid tripping hazard.
- Wash durability
- Repeated washing may cause the design to fade and surface fibers to pill.
- Backing quality
- Latex-backed polyester backing may trap moisture, potentially affecting the rug's base durability.
- Rug pad
- Using a rug pad is recommended for safety and longevity.
- Material
- 70% recycled PET and 30% wool blend gives softness and durability, but no machine washing.
- Pattern
- Hyacinth pattern is an original 1911 John Henry Dearle jacquard for Morris & Co.
- Value
- At CAD $1479, the jacquard weave and wool blend justify the premium over Ruggable rugs.
- Design heritage
- 1911 design by John Henry Dearle, instantly recognized as a Morris & Co. pattern.
- Medium adaptation
- Originally a wallpaper (c. 1911), now a jacquard rug with a pebbled flatweave texture.
- Color palette
- Muted sage, olive, and coral palette softens the dense botanical repeat for modern interiors.

Negative experience with Ruggable rugs
Ruggable owner x3 here and I hate them all lol, can't wait to get rid of them! They're impossible to get to lay flat against the rug pad.

Identification of William Morris pattern
That looks like the William Morris strawberry thief pattern. If you love it worth checking out some of the other William Morris patterns.

Positive review of Morris & Co. tufted rug from Ruggable
I have the Morris & Co. Owl & Willow Green Tufted Rug from Ruggable and it is thicker than the loloi rugs I have in my houses. Big big fan. Wouldn’t be able to tell it’s washable it’s so thick. Lays really nicely, no creases at all. The flatwoven ones are not great though.
