Product Insights

A handmade rug from India, crafted from 80% wool and 20% cotton, each embossed grid piece is unique due to natural variations from hand-tufting. The wool provides resilience, stain resistance from lanolin, and flame retardance, while the cotton foundation ensures it lies flat without curling or stretching. The rug is heavy, stays in place, and its pattern holds up under traffic. However, buyers must contend with initial shedding, potential strong chemical odor upon arrival, and sporadic stains or quality issues, which are trade-offs for its lower price point compared to similar handmade rugs.

Verified claims

Hand-tufted construction creates natural variations that make each rug one-of-a-kind.
Longevity
Wool’s resilience and cotton’s stability keep the embossed pattern intact over years of use.
Care and maintenance
Initial shedding is typical for wool rugs, and wool’s lanolin provides a natural stain barrier.

Wool care
Wool resists stains yet sheds initially; vacuum without beater bar to control shedding.
Quality consistency
Some buyers report stains and chemical smell on arrival.

Deep Research

How the embossed grid pattern feels and looks

  • Embossed textures are notably effective in entryways or low-furniture spaces where the rug remains uncovered, because the unobstructed surface allows the three-dimensional grid to be read in full and the play of light across the relief becomes a focal point.

What to expect from a handmade Indian wool rug

  • Wool is naturally resilient, flame-retardant, and stain-resistant — it hides soil well and springs back from compression better than synthetics — so this rug will maintain its embossed texture and color clarity longer than a viscose or polyester alternative, even under daily foot traffic.
  • India produces over 90% of the world's handmade rugs, with the Panipat cluster alone accounting for 60% of exports — the hands behind this rug are part of a centuries-old weaving tradition supported by over 2 million skilled artisans, a provenance that adds cultural depth to a decor purchase.
  • Because the rug is woven by hand on a loom, expect natural variations in color depth, grid alignment, and texture — these aren't defects but the thumbprint of an artisan, meaning your rug will be genuinely singular and not a mass-produced clone.

Why wool and cotton are chosen for this rug

  • The cotton component — typically the warp and weft threads — keeps the rug from stretching or relaxing, so high-traffic areas don’t cause rippling or edge curling, and the rug maintains its intended dimensions even after years of use.
  • Wool’s natural lanolin coating creates a temporary spill barrier that buys you extra seconds to blot liquids before they sink in — a built-in defense against red wine or coffee mishaps in living and dining areas.
  • Both wool and cotton are exceptionally durable fibers that resist wear and retain their shape — the wool pile won’t crush flat under furniture, and the cotton foundation prevents sagging, so the rug maintains its loft and structure for years.
  • Wool is a rapidly renewable fiber (sheep regrow their fleece annually) and cotton is a plant-based fiber, so the rug’s material footprint is significantly lower than synthetics — an investment that aligns with an eco-conscious home.

Perfect rug for my room

Alison W.

So happy with this rug. It came very well packaged and rolled out flat immediately as it’s heavy and well made. The wool/cotton combo feels warm.

The Perfect Rug

Darlene O.

This rug is exactly what I was looking for. The quality is excellent - it’s thick, lies flat on the floor and is the perfect warm shade of ivory. It was also cheaper than the other rugs I tried and returned. Love it!

Came with a stain and sheds a lot

Sarah L.

Carpet was delivered with a 20cm stain and multiple other smaller stains. The material sheds a lot even after vacuuming multiple times. Also has a very strong chemical smell. I do not recommend at all.

Q&A

1 answered
Does this wool rug shed significantly, and does it require special vacuuming?
Like most wool rugs, this one will shed loose fibers initially, especially during the first few months. Regular vacuuming with a suction-only or brushless setting (avoid a beater bar) helps manage shedding without damaging the wool fibers.
