Product Insights
Born from Loloi’s CEO pitching Rifle Paper Co.’s founder during a virtual design consultation, the Canopy rug translates original hand-painted gouache into a digitally printed 100% polyester low-pile rug that sheds negligibly from day one, cleans with mild detergent, and ships rolled flat without creases. At $229 (roughly one-quarter the cost of the wool Highgrove version), its 0.25-inch pile clears doors, glides chairs, and reduces tripping risk, though a rug pad is recommended for grip and underfoot comfort. While the polyester print may fade in high traffic, that wear is embraced as vintage patina, and the intricate pattern hides spills. Available in four sizes, it offers an affordable entry into designer collaboration rugs with a tradeoff of reduced longevity versus wool.

Deep Research
Low pile height and everyday use
- Industry pile height charts define low pile as 0.0 to 0.25 inches, which puts this rug at the exact upper boundary — it offers noticeably more softness than a flatweave while still allowing chair legs to slide without snagging and staying under the height limits that cause door-scraping issues.
- Most interior doors sit 0.5 to 1 inch above the floor, and placement guides advise keeping total rug-plus-pad height to 0.5 inches or less for clearance — since the rug's pile alone is 0.25 inches, even with a thin underpad the stack stays within that safe band, making the rug workable in entryways, hallways, and bedrooms without door-gap conflicts.
- Zone-specific placement guidance recommends living rooms use pile heights of 0.25 to 0.5 inches for comfort and dining areas stay at 0.25 inches or less for chair mobility — this rug sits right at the overlap, so a single rug can define an open-plan living-dining area without compromising either comfort or practicality.
- Where a thick rug meets bare floor the sudden edge becomes a trip hazard, a concern noted in safety guides alongside the advice to keep pile modest in walkways — with a 0.25-inch pile, this rug's edge profile stays low, reducing that risk for households with older adults or young children.
- The low-pile surface lets dining chairs glide in and out smoothly rather than catching on fibers, which is why editorial guidebooks like IKEA's dining rug primer explicitly recommend flatwoven or low-pile constructions for under-table use — at 0.25 inches, this rug delivers that real-world benefit.
The Rifle Paper Co. design story
- Anna Bond's original illustrations are painted by hand in gouache, a medium that required a careful translation to rug form — she worked iteratively with Loloi's craftspeople to adapt the scale of her motifs while preserving painted texture and vibrancy, so the Canopy print retains the hand-done feel of a studio artwork even on a factory-made polyester rug.
- Rifle Paper Co. built its reputation on hand-illustrated greeting cards and stationery since 2009, amassing nearly a million Instagram followers and over 5,000 retail doors before entering home decor — the Canopy rug carries that decade of aesthetic trust, making it a gateway to Rifle's recognizable visual world for an entire room.
- When the first Rifle Paper Co. x Loloi collection debuted at High Point Market in October 2018, Anna Bond's single Instagram announcement drew 65,000 likes and 1,742 comments, and attendees lined up for her art signing — the Canopy design benefits from the credibility of a launch that generated immediate, measurable enthusiasm among design insiders rather than entering the market quietly.
- Anna Bond explicitly approaches her collaboration products as pieces that are 'colorful and playful but also livable,' so the Canopy rug's enchanted forest pattern is intended to bring whimsy into a real home without feeling impractical — the neutral-toned variant available here is the most restrained expression of that philosophy.
- The partnership between Rifle Paper Co. and Loloi was born when Cyrus Loloi booked a virtual design consultation with Anna Bond through The Expert and revealed mid-call that he didn't have a home to decorate — he simply wanted to propose a rug collaboration, an unconventional approach that instantly won Bond over and imbues the Canopy rug with a story of creative serendipity rather than standard licensing.
Price and value vs. similar floral rugs
- At $229 CAD (approx. $170 USD), the Canopy rug costs about a quarter of the hand-tufted wool Rifle Paper Co. x Loloi Highgrove rug ($969 on Anthropologie), delivering the same designer collaboration in a power-loomed polyester construction that prioritizes easy-care and affordability over wool's tactile depth.
- The collection spans 13 sizes including three round shapes (3'9", 5', and 7'6"), an unusually broad footprint for a mid-range designer rug that allows matching odd-shaped rooms or defining circular dining zones.
- The Canopy design is created from hand-painted artwork by Rifle Paper Co. — a known stationery brand — while a lookalike 5'x7' floral rug from LOVEVOOK sells for $54 at Target; the roughly 4x price premium buys an original, licensed design and Loloi's build consistency rather than a generic print.
- The Highgrove wool rug requires managing shedding for 6–8 weeks, but the Canopy's 100% polyester construction sheds minimally from the start — an advantage for allergy-sensitive or pet-friendly homes that still want a detailed floral pattern.
- The 'RP' in the style code CNP-02 RP indicates this is an officially licensed Rifle Paper Co. design, a verification subtlety that distinguishes it from countless unbranded 'enchanted forest' rugs flooding online marketplaces.
Polyester feel, care, and print durability
- Loloi printed rugs ship rolled rather than folded, so they arrive without stubborn crease memory and can be laid flat immediately, avoiding the days-long process of coaxing out fold lines with weights or reverse rolling.
- With only a 0.25-inch pile height, there is essentially no nap to matte or flatten, so the rug stays consistently sleek under dining chairs, rolling office furniture, and high-footfall corridors without developing unsightly traffic lanes.
- Adding a quality rug pad under this rug's thin profile not only secures it on hard floors but also supplies the missing underfoot cushion, making the firm surface feel substantially plusher and more comfortable for prolonged standing or play.
- The busy, multi-tonal forest pattern and polyester's inherent stain resistance work together to make everyday spills and tracked-in dirt practically invisible, so the rug maintains its polished look between cleanings in kitchens, entryways, and dining areas.
- Despite the commercial-grade flatness of a 0.25-inch pile, the polyester face has a surprisingly soft, slightly velvety hand that is comfortable for bare feet and floor-sitting, distinguishing it from the scratchier texture of authentic vintage wool rugs.
- The intricate Rifle Paper Co. forest scene is applied as a digital print onto the polyester face rather than woven through the fibers, which not only allows for the painterly detail at an accessible price but also means the surface develops a gentle vintage patina in well-trodden areas — a feature, not a flaw, for a rug designed to look like a cherished antique.
- Polyester fibers are inherently colorfast, so the deep jewel tones of the forest scene resist fading from UV exposure and routine cleaning; even the slightest mellowing that occurs over years of use simply deepens the rug's intended timeworn botanical aesthetic.
- At $229 CAD, this rug offers an authentic Rifle Paper Co. textile design — normally reserved for considerably more expensive art prints and home accessories — with the digital printing method bypassing the cost of traditional weaving without sacrificing the hand-painted watercolor detail.

Q&A
5 answered- Does this rug shed significantly, especially during initial use, and how well does it hold up to regular vacuuming?
- This low-pile polyester rug (0.25" height) is designed to shed minimally, and it holds up well to regular vacuuming. Polyester fibers are naturally resistant to shedding, and Loloi rugs are noted for durability in high-traffic areas.
- Does the cotton-canvas backing provide sufficient grip on hardwood or tile floors without a rug pad, or is a pad essential to prevent slipping?
- We recommend using a rug pad with this cotton-canvas backing to prevent slipping on hardwood or tile floors. The product features specifically note that a rug pad is recommended for greater safety, as the backing alone may not provide sufficient grip.
- What is the recommended cleaning method for this rug—can it be spot-cleaned with mild detergent or steam cleaned without damaging the fibers?
- For cleaning, we recommend spot-cleaning with mild detergent and water, blotting gently. Steam cleaning is possible for polyester rugs, but test in an inconspicuous area first to avoid damage. Avoid harsh chemicals or scrubbing that could distort the low pile.
- For the 152x232cm size, what room dimensions or furniture arrangements (e.g., under a queen bed) does it best suit?
- The 152x232cm size (approx. 5' x 7'6") fits well under a queen-size bed (60"x80"), with about 6 inches of rug extending past the foot. It also works in small living rooms, entryways, or as a layering piece in a dining area.
- Where can I find high-quality affordable rugs?
- Homegoods stocks Loloi rugs at competitive prices.

Loloi rugs at Homegoods: quality and value
Check out Homegoods! I have seen higher end brands like Loloi for less than 200 for large sizes. Closer to 100 for 5x7. I have one of the rifle paper co x loloi printed rugs in my living room (high traffic with two dogs) and after 2 years it still looks like new! I got mine for 25% off full price and I paid $320 8x10. Though prices may be up now due to inflation.
