Why this is supported
Hand-tufted rugs begin with a design stenciled onto a primary backing cloth, enabling precise pattern scaling. As therugstory.co.uk describes,
A hand tufted rug begins with a design drawn or projected onto a primary backing cloth, held taut on a frame. A skilled maker then uses a tufting gun to place yarn through this backing, following the artwork precisely.
therugstory.co.ukThis allows the checkerboard pattern to be resized accurately across all eight variants. The same source notes that a design can be resized

Momeni wool rug found to be higher quality than synthetic, great value second-hand
For what it's worth, I bought the rug for $100. It was clearly much higher quality than the $750 synthetic Wayfair rug we're replacing. I took it home & vacuumed it. It was both softer & actually seemed to give up dirt & dust better. The seller said it was under his pool table for 20 years. I'm guessing he's exaggerating a little but it's in great shape even if it's 10 years old. When you combine the price of the rug we're replacing (that didn't even last a year before getting pretty stained & gross looking), I guess I may still have gotten a bargain considering this rug at this size retails for over $1k.
