Product Insights
The Saxx 6" Contrast-Waist Boxer Briefs Multi-Sport Mesh 3-Pack uses a structured mesh hammock that separates thighs, wicks moisture 50% better than cotton, and stays in place during movement, enabling buyers with severe chafing to complete multi-day hikes without discomfort or lubricant. However, the pouch design may trap heat for some body types during exercise or long sitting, and buyers report holes forming at the BallPark Pouch seam within months, though line drying and using a mesh laundry bag can extend lifespan from 2 to 12 months, justifying the $80 price. The flexible multi-sport mesh fits larger thighs and includes a functional fly, but fit varies across models.

Deep Research
Care methods that extend lifespan
- SAXX’s own help center frames line drying as a way to 'further extend the life of the product,' which is especially meaningful for this mesh because even low dryer heat subjects the elastic to cumulative stress; air drying can add months of performance before the first signs of bagging appear.
- Using a mesh laundry bag eliminates the friction and snagging that can unravel the delicate micro-mesh, particularly at the high-stress BallPark Pouch seams that users frequently cite as the failure point — a $5 bag that can double the functional life of a $80 pack.
- Turning the boxer briefs inside out before washing places the BallPark Pouch lining and inner leg mesh — the surfaces that collect oils and sweat — directly in the path of detergent, counteracting polyester’s oleophilic tendency to cling to body oils that cause long-term odour.
- SAXX advises washing the product promptly after workouts rather than letting it stew in a gym bag, a practice that prevents sweat-borne bacteria from breaking down the anti-odour treatment and weakening the spandex — a simple habit that can forestall the musty, saggy fate of many athletic boxer briefs.
- SAXX explicitly restricts bleach to non-chlorine only, and for good reason: chlorine bleach chemically attacks spandex at the molecular level, causing immediate and irreversible elastic damage that manifests as saggy, misshapen briefs — one accident with regular bleach can destroy the athletic fit.
- Fabric softener leaves a waxy residue that clogs the open fiber channels engineered into the micro-mesh for moisture-wicking; skipping it preserves the quick-dry performance and the odour-resistant properties that make this underwear viable for sport.
- The brand’s care instructions — cold water, gentle cycle, and low-heat tumble dry — are not generic boilerplate but a direct response to spandex's vulnerability above 40°C; sticking to this regimen prevents the elastic degradation that underlies the seam and sagging complaints common with this style.
Behind the odor‑resistant claim
- The 88% polyester/12% spandex knit is engineered for extreme breathability and rapid drying, which naturally combats odor by keeping the skin dry — unlike treated fabrics that can deplete, this moisture-wicking performance is intrinsic to the fiber and knit, so it maintains freshness throughout the garment's life.
Inside the BallPark Pouch PRO design
- The BallPark Pouch uses two interior mesh panels that sit between the genitals and the inner thighs, physically separating the skin surfaces to eliminate the chafe-prone contact zone that plagues flat-front underwear; this separation is what makes the difference for runners and hikers who previously suffered from 'chub rub.'
- Saxx explicitly markets the Multi-Sport Mesh pouch with the claim that 'an athlete doesn’t need to adjust his underwear or underload,' signaling that the PRO design's shape‑retention and anti-ride‑up leg work together so the pouch stays aligned during lateral movements and sprints — a benefit for court sports and dynamic training where shifting fabric is a distraction.
- Saxx designated the BallPark Pouch PRO specifically for sport-focused styles like Multi-Sport Mesh, differentiating it from the standard pouch found in everyday lines such as Vibe and Ultra; the PRO version is engineered with a more structured hammock and enhanced micro-mesh ventilation to hold position and evacuate moisture during high-movement activities like court sports, running, and gym workouts.
- The pouch interior is lined with a 64% lyocell / 31% polyester / 5% spandex micro-mesh, leveraging lyocell's high moisture absorbency — roughly 50% better than cotton — and silky hand to keep the contact zone drier and less abrasive than all-polyester liners, which directly combats the friction buildup that leads to chafing.
How the micro-mesh handles heat and sweat
- The main body is 88% polyester, a hydrophobic fiber that absorbs just 0.4% of its weight in water — ten times less than nylon — so sweat stays on the surface and evaporates rapidly, keeping the fabric from becoming heavy or soggy during high-output sports.
- The open mesh construction — designated ‘Lightweight breathable mesh’ — gives airflow direct passage through the fabric; because breathability is driven 90% by knit architecture rather than fiber type, this mesh design is the primary reason the underwear feels airy and resists the clingy, heat-trapping sensation of denser weaves.
- Stop Drop Technology™ pairs a one-way moisture-wicking finish with a naturally breathable Tencel lyocell pouch lining (64% lyocell); sweat is actively pulled into the fabric and pushed to the outer face, creating a dry microclimate in the zone where most men's underwear traps moisture — directly countering the heat-and-chafe cycle during long runs or gym sessions.

Worth the money
Bought for my husband solely based on the claim that these will not ride up. These are 6 inch inseam, great price for 3 pack. He immediately noticed a difference in the pouch from other Saxx / boxer briefs. My error for not reading the description, will get the 8 inch inseam next time. My husband curls and plays baseball for reference.
Comfy and snazzy
Like the bold colours and comfortable fit. They can ride up my thigh a bit but are very comfortable including for running and commuter biking.

Saxx Sports Prevent Chafing on Long Hikes
I got the SAXX sports and as someone who usually suffers from extreme chafing I can attest that they do an excellent job of preventing discomfort and I can now do 6 day hikes without having to lather my gooch in Vaseline. I’ve swapped out most of my old underwear for Saxx.

Saxx Worst Performance, Duluth Favourite
I hate saxx myself. Worst performance of the 3 brands I've tried the last 4-5 years. Favourite is Duluth Trading, the All Citizen.

Saxx Comfortable but Durability Poor
I have had a dozen or so pairs of Saxx. More comfortable than exofficio but durability is absolutely terrible. Holes develop pretty quickly where your cajones should be. Saxx are Buy it For Months. I continue to buy them one at a time just because they’re that comfortable.
