Product Insights
The Nike Dunk Low Retro recreates a 1985 design composite of the Air Jordan 1, Terminator, and Legend, originally a basketball failure that became a skateboarding icon due to its flat, durable sole. Now a lifestyle sneaker, it offers a balanced silhouette with a true-to-size fit, wider toebox than the Jordan 1 Low, and a synthetic leather upper that softens, resists water, and develops vintage character. However, its foam midsole lacks cushioning—requiring aftermarket insoles for extended wear—and quality control issues like glue stains are common. At $150 CAD, retail price reflects cultural value over materials, with the Panda Dunk averaging $68 on resale. The shoe coordinates easily with outfits and is low-maintenance, making it a versatile everyday option despite the comfort and construction tradeoffs.
Verified claims

- College color design
- Retro model retains the identical 1985 panel layout and details.
- Heritage

- Material

- Fit

- Skateboarding use
- Dunk Low Retro is a lifestyle sneaker, not designed for skateboarding.
- Sizing
- True to size like the Jordan 1 Low; Air Force 1 runs large.

- Price advantage
- Panda Dunk averages $68 on resale; $150 CAD retail price reflects only cultural value, not scarcity.
- Everyday wearability
- Profile-balanced, true-to-size fit; synthetic leather wipes clean and ages well; buyers note stock insole minimal, upgradeable.
- Comfort
- True-to-size fit with roomier toe box than Jordan 1 and less narrow than Samba; flat midsole limits walking comfort.
- Quality control
- Buyers report quality control issues such as glue stains and leather inconsistencies.
- Cleaning
- The shoe is low-maintenance: spot-clean the upper with a damp cloth and the lining with a soft brush.

Dunk Lows lack cushioning and comfort compared to runners
Not really. Upgrading with aftermarket insoles helps, but there is absolutely no cushioning in regular Dunks.

Panda Dunk Low divides opinion: versatile classic or overdone basic?
Classic CW. My Pandas never let me down. The perfect last resort shoe for me lol. I’m a big Jordan 1-14 guy but sometimes I get stuck on what shoes to wear. Dark clothing but don’t know what to wear? Pandas. Light clothing and don’t know what to wear? Pandas. I can wear them with a white T and jeans. Hoodie and cargo pants. Joggers or some shorts and long white socks. Love my Pandas.
