Product Insights

The Simons Leather Brogue Shoe provides a true-to-size fit in a classic brown chocolate/espresso shade that suits earth-tone wardrobes, with a padded footbed that is fixed, requiring orthotic users to size up; its polished leather needs cream conditioning every 15–20 wears and storage in cotton bags to preserve the finish, while polishing demands cream for the brogue pattern and wax for the toe and heel only.

Fit

True to standard dress shoe sizing with size 10 fitting a 10D foot.

Why this is supported

Per the brand's Q&A, these brogues run true to size: a size 10 fits a typical 10D foot. The brand states,

Yes, these brogues generally run true to size for standard dress shoe sizing.Do these brogues run true to size compared to standard dress shoe sizing? I typically wear a 10D in other brands.

.

Size range

Half and full sizes 8–13 cover the standard men's dress shoe range.

Why this is supported

The brand's Q&A confirms that the available size range aligns with standard men's sizing:

The available sizes range from 8 to 13, which aligns with common men's dress shoe sizing.Do these brogues run true to size compared to standard dress shoe sizing? I typically wear a 10D in other brands.
Footbed

Padded footbed is likely fixed and not removable for orthotics.

Why this is supported

When asked about orthotic accommodation, the brand indicated:

It is likely fixed, which may limit custom orthotic use.Is the padded footbed removable to accommodate custom orthotics?
Color in real life

Chocolate/Espresso is a true brown, lighter than black, suiting earth-tone wardrobes.

Why this is supported

Catalog verified the color appearance against the brand's Q&A response:

The Chocolate/Espresso color is a rich brown shade, distinctly lighter than black. It should appear as a deep, warm brown in most lighting conditions. The chocolate/espresso color—in real-life lighting, does it appear more like a rich brown or a very dark brown close to black?

This confirms the Chocolate/Espresso is a true brown, not black, and thus pairs best with brown belts and earth-tone outfits.

Color maintenance

Cream conditioning every 15–20 wears and storage in cotton bags preserve the rich brown color.

Why this is supported

Catalog cross-referenced care guidelines for polished leather. The recommended frequency for conditioning is

Polished leather on dress shoes benefits from a conditioner applied every 15–20 wears, massaged into the leather with a soft cloth, to replace lost oils and prevent the polished finish from developing the fine cracks that eventually lead to permanent creasing and dull spots.Caring for polished leather brogues — conditioning_frequency

. Additionally, the included signature cotton storage bags prevent dust and moisture that could dull the finish or cause mold spotting, preserving the rich brown color between wears.

After-wear care

Insert unvarnished cedar shoe trees after each wear and store in the supplied cotton bags.

Why this is supported

The after-wear care recommended includes

Inserting unvarnished cedar shoe trees after each wear not only absorbs excess moisture but also maintains the shape of the brogues, reducing vamp creasing that can cause the polished finish to flake or crack prematurely—an especially important step for keeping the high-shine surface intact across the toe flex zone.Caring for polished leather brogues — cedar_shoe_trees

Then, the shoes should be stored in the provided bags:

Storing the brogues in the supplied signature cotton bags after a light dusting shields the polished surface from airborne dust that settles and dims the shine, while the breathable fabric prevents moisture buildup that could cause mold spotting on the leatherCaring for polished leather brogues — storage_in_signature_bags

— these steps prevent moisture and dust damage, preserving the polished finish between wears.

Conditioning

Condition the polished leather every 15-20 wears to replace lost oils and prevent fine cracks.

Why this is supported

To maintain the polished finish,

Polishing

Apply cream polish to maintain the brogue pattern; reserve wax for toe and heel.

Why this is supported

The research recommends a two-tier polishing approach:

a cream polish nourishes the leather and imparts a soft glow without building up in the holesCaring for polished leather brogues — cream_polish_vs_wax_polish_for_brogues

Meanwhile, wax polish should be used sparingly only on the toe cap and heel counter to achieve a mirror shine without clogging the brogue perforations.

Pre-polish cleaning

Wipe brogues with a barely damp cloth before polishing to prevent micro-scratches.

Why this is supported

Before polishing, removing surface grit prevents damage:

Wiping polished leather with a barely damp cotton cloth before polishing removes surface grit that would otherwise abrade the glossy upper during brushing or buffing, preventing micro-scratches that dull the high-shine appearance over time.Caring for polished leather brogues — gentle_pre_polish_cleaning
Finish preservation

Condition leather every 15–20 wears and store in signature cotton bags to preserve the finish.

Why this is supported

To keep the polished finish in top condition, the research recommends periodic conditioning and proper storage:

Additionally,

Sizing for orthotics

Size up for orthotic inserts due to true-to-size fit and fixed footbed.

Why this is supported

The shoe runs true to size, as stated:

Yes, these brogues generally run true to size for standard dress shoe sizing.Do these brogues run true to size compared to standard dress shoe sizing? I typically wear a 10D in other brands.

However, because the footbed is fixed (

The padded footbed is described as part of the shoe's construction, and there is no mention of it being removable. Is the padded footbed removable to accommodate custom orthotics?

), orthotic wearers should size up to fit an insert.
