Onestr Drkshdw Earth Sneakers Converse X Drkshdw Collection Men
This is a men's low-top sneaker from the Converse x DRKSHDW collection by Rick Owens, reimagining the Converse One Star with a pony hair leather upper in an earthy dark brown-gray tone. Key specifications include an oversized tongue, CX foam midsole, non-skid rubber outer sole, and model number DC02EX797-A14R0. Based on user feedback, sizing runs large, so ordering a half size down is recommended; it is also widely regarded as an affordable entry point into Rick Owens' design language, though quality is perceived as less premium than mainline Rick Owens footwear.

Product Insights
The Onestr Drkshdw Earth Sneakers from Rick Owens and Converse offer an entry-level design at $240 CAD, carrying authentic Rick Owens cues like an exaggerated tongue, dual toe cap, and DRKSTAR branding. The CX foam midsole upgrades comfort beyond standard One Star, while the pony hair upper provides a unique, light-shifting nap that deepens or brightens with brushing. However, this soft (9/10) material is delicate, requiring protective spray to prevent shedding and staining, and the overall feel remains premium Converse rather than mainline Rick Owens. Buyers report the shoe runs large (size down half) and serves as a practical beater and collector item, though durability is lower compared to mainline Rick Owens. The tradeoff is clear: you pay for aesthetic and entry-point exclusivity, not structural integrity.

Deep Research
Pony hair material character and long-term aging
- The pony hair's fine nap causes the earthy brown upper to shift between deeper and brighter tones as light strikes it at different angles, an active, multidimensional finish that makes flat-colored leather look inert by comparison.
- Because the hair patterns derive from a genuine animal hide, no two ONESTR pairs share identical hair flow or distribution — what would be a flaw in a synthetic print becomes a sign of authentic, singular material, effectively making each shoe a one-of-a-kind piece within the collection.
- The upper's plush, velvety pile — softness rated 9/10 among hair-on leathers — intentionally clashes with the rigid CX foam midsole and elongated rubber toe, creating the tension between lived-in softness and brutalist proportion that defines Rick Owens' gothic-streetwear vocabulary.

Q&A
7 answered- What is the recommended cleaning method for the pony hair leather upper, given its delicate nature?
- We recommend gently brushing the pony hair leather with a soft-bristled brush to remove dirt, and spot cleaning with a barely damp cloth—avoid soaking or rubbing hard. Using a suede/nubuck protector spray beforehand helps prevent stains.
- How does the CX foam midsole compare in comfort to the standard Converse One Star midsole?
- The CX foam midsole is softer and more responsive than the standard One Star midsole, offering noticeably better cushioning for all-day wear.
- Does the oversized tongue affect the fit or cause discomfort when wearing?
- The oversized tongue is designed for the aesthetic and generally doesn't affect fit or cause discomfort—most wearers find it drapes naturally. If you have a narrow foot, you may notice it feels slightly thicker, but it shouldn't be an issue.
- How does the pony hair leather hold up to regular wear, and is it prone to shedding or staining?
- Pony hair leather is delicate; with regular wear, it can show shedding and staining, especially in high-friction areas. We suggest applying a protective spray and avoiding wet conditions to extend its life.
- How do Rick Owens x Converse fit?
- They run large; it's recommended to size down half a size.
- Is the quality comparable to mainline Rick Owens?
- No, they are more like premium Converse; good for the price but not mainline quality.
- Should I buy them just for the Rick Owens name?
- Only if you genuinely like the design; buying for the name alone often leads to regret.

User praises DRKSTARs and TURBOWPNs for quality and accessible pricing as an introduction to Rick Owens design
I have the DRKSTARs and the TURBOWPNs and love both of them. My most wanted shoe is a Geobasket but I just don't have the means to get those in my size right now, as I would have to pay retail. I'm a size 13 so the used market for Rick footwear is basically nonexistent. Got both of my shoes for retail and they're great quality with accessible pricing. Helps me get a little closer to the silhouettes and design cues of mainline pieces.

User explains the Rick x Converse as a versatile, affordable introduction to the brand with slightly different quality
Personally I’ve always liked the converse classic sneaker but there was something missing to the design (for me) to warrant purchasing them again. I always wear Rick and when I saw the collab it was an instant buy for me because the look improved so much from what it was (personally speaking). They cost a quarter of any other Rick shoe retail price and I’d say its extremely versatile since it’s somewhat of a modified classic design. It prob is a good introduction but it’s not a 100% factory made Rick Owens item so quality, wear and durability will be somewhat different. Maybe it’s something you can wear in the meanwhile until you figure out what it is you truly like, they do not make bad beaters at all.

Commenter sees the One Star Pro as a positive way to fund mainline and attract entry-level buyers
Yeah I don’t hate these. It’s a good way for Rick to fund the mainline so we can continue to get cool pieces and also to get more entry level buyers into the brand. Not everything needs to have a bozo mega tractor basket shoe. Wish they did all darker colours though

Owner details sizing (run large, half size down) and quality features of the Rick Owens x Converse DRKSTAR
Thx. It fit large (recommend a half size down, I am a 8 so I have to get 7.5) and they are high quality to the dual rubber toe cap and heel to the canvas body with waxed cotton upper. And it have the line stiching on the tounge instead of the cloud stiching. Lastly, it have the rick owens kicks look and custom DRKSTAR back plates and the rick owens look!
