Homme Plissé Issey Miyake
Pleated Pant
These pleated trousers from Homme Plissé Issey Miyake are made of polyester with a stretch straight-leg fit, elastic waistband with belt loops, and slit pockets. Designed for everyday casual wear and streetwear, they feature narrow vertical accordion pleats that run from waist to hem, created through a post-assembly pleating process. User reviews note that with proper care—gentle washing and hang drying—the pants can last for years without pilling, though the thin fabric requires delicate handling and pleats may lose sharpness after prolonged sitting.

Product Insights
Homme Plissé Issey Miyake's Pleated Pant continues the brand's pleating heritage from Pleats Please, using a post-assembly heat-set process that creates permanent micropleats, allowing sizing by height (1,2,3) rather than waist and providing unrestricted movement. The 100% polyester pants are machine-washable but require cold water and hang drying. Key tradeoffs include that authentic pleats flow smoothly and hold structure for years, while replicas cannot match the drape and stacking; however, prolonged sitting reduces pleat sharpness, the fit can appear shapeless on larger frames, and the design is best suited for streetwear and avant-garde looks that require minimal sitting. At a retail price of 675 CAD, it is often available at significant discounts.

Watch Out For
Compared To
vs Zara pleated pants
Zara imitations are significantly lower quality, fraying and stretching quickly, while authentic Issey pants last years with proper care.
vs TaoBao replicas
Replicas look similar but have flaws in waistband alignment, material feel, pleat flow, and color depth; they offer a budget-friendly alternative at 10% of the price.

Long-term durability and comparison to Zara dupes
Nah. My wife and I have a pair of isseys that are still without pilling or signs of wear after 5 years of wear. My wife is religious with hers and wears them almost 2-3 days every week. I throw them into a delicates bag on normal cycle cold and then hang dry. Bought a pair of bootleg isseys from Zara and they were the biggest piece of shit. Bottom frayed through regular wear after a few weeks and the waistband was stretched out to hell. You definitely get what you pay for.

Manufacturing process and value proposition
There arent many fabrics that can hold fabric manipulation techniques like Issey Miyake does except polyester. If you go to the 21_21 design sight museum, you can see just how much material actually goes into 1 pair of pants, just the immense amount of folding and stretching required to really create a piece. Sure, there are brands that copy those techniques that sell for cheaper, just like when everyone was wearing the Zara Issey Miyake dupes, but its not really the same thing. Try ironing pleats into your cotton pants, or stitching it so the pleats holds longer. But at the end of the day, only you can decide if you can justify the price. My SO collects issey pieces, and you can find pleats pieces fairly often on places like TreFacs online store and the like. And never pay full retail, you can always find some on sale.

Replica vs authentic comparison highlighting flaws
Honestly I'll have to disagree with being 1:1 with authentic . I also have this batch as well as retail, and while they look pretty much indistinguishable, they are far from perfect. The most glaring flaws I noticed: -like you said, the waistband. Its horrendous lol. It constantly needs to be adjusted, then gets misaligned easy. and even aligned it still looks off. -material is actually good, but still feels cheaper than retail -pleats look good from afar and honestly I wouldnt be able to tell if someone wore these. However, I have to say the pleat construction is still off. As a result it doesn't flow the same as retail and stacks a little weirdly (like when you sit down or bend your legs, or wear high top shoes). It bugs me after wearing the authentic religiously how the rep's fabric bunches up differently -this goes for the black pair, but the color is off its not as deep a black as authentics. Can't speak for other colors though So all in all, they're a good batch and I honestly wear mine a lot as beater pants when I go to the grocery store and shit . But don't say these are pretty 1:1 because they are not 👍

Personal experience with care difficulty
After a couple years with one pair I don’t think they are that hard to care for. If you want to extend the life then I would recommend you follow the instructions. Usually I do not. The sitting is what kills the pleats but I discovered they are not really for sitting in them for hours on end. For the most part they need to be treated with much more care than regular pants (jeans, trousers, etc.) but they are not overly hard to care for. I do not treat the second pair I bought the same as the first of that gives you any insight.

Critique of shapeless silhouette on a larger body
It's absolutely shapeless, and it's doing you no favors. Idk in what world adding a bunch of designer names in front of these items is supposed to excuse them from looking like saggy crap. The all black/dark gray just compounds the problem because that's the go-to for angsty youngsters who haven't figured out how to dress themselves yet.
