Product Insights
The Rev Visor Sunglasses by Rick Owens, co-created with Martin Rev of Suicide, embody a punk underground heritage with a design referencing 1970s subcultures and vintage Porsche shields. At $1,000 CAD, it includes a leather case and certified UV protection, distinguishing it from counterfeits and cheaper alternatives, but the oversized, glossy acetate frame is heavier than the nylon Rev Shiny model and cannot be worn under hats or helmets, suiting oval and round faces best.
Verified claims
- Collaboration
- Designed in collaboration with Martin Rev of Suicide.
- Design lineage
- Co-created with Martin Rev of Suicide, linking the frame to Suicide's 1970s proto-punk legacy.
- Hypoallergenic
- Hypoallergenic and skin-friendly for sensitive skin.
- Model comparison
- Heavier, glossier acetate than the nylon Rev Shiny model.
- Hat compatibility
- Generally too large to be worn comfortably under a hat or helmet due to the oversized shield design.
- Face shape compatibility
- Flatters oval faces with enough width to carry the 80 mm lens, adds definition to round faces, and creates intentional aggressive contrast on square faces.
- Value
- At $1,000 CAD, it is priced above the $740 Balenciaga Sunset and includes a leather case not offered on the Tory Burch runway shield.
- Fit
- 122mm temples and 22mm bridge create snug fit for medium-to-high nose bridges.
- UV protection
- Provides full UVA/UVB protection; replica versions may lack proper UV protection.
- Material
- Acetate frame with polycarbonate lens, integrated nose pads, and leather case, distinguishing from reps.
- Authenticity context
- The Martin Rev collaboration is the design's authentic origin, but replica versions may copy the branding and look close to retail, so a quality check is recommended.
- Styling
- The oversized shield is generally too large for hat pairing and works best with pared-back outfits that let the frame command attention.
- Design heritage
- Collaboration with Martin Rev of Suicide embeds punk underground history.
- Origin
- Made in Italy, with Italian manufacture positioning it in the accessible-high-end eyewear bracket.
- Colorway
- The frame is finished in a stark, unbroken black acetate.
- Lens design
- The Rev Visor uses a single continuous shield lens rather than two separate lenses.
- Included accessories
- The Rev Visor is supplied with a signature leather case.
- Frame construction
- The acetate frame is cut from solid blocks using computer-guided routers rather than injection-molded, preserving structural integrity and a high-lustre surface.

Punk rock inspiration of Rick Owens shield sunglasses
That may partially be it, but they’re much more likely to be inspired by Martin Rev of Suicide, who was wearing these as early as 1972, given that Rick is obviously a huge fan of early punk music and the early 1970s New York City punk scene [Martin Rev and Alan Vega of Suicide](https://www.wasserbassin.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/suicide-1.jpg) [Suicide onstage in 76](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/544cb720e4b0f3ba72ee8a78/1424674221870-UTVO4I10FPAWH6ALPVNC/image-asset.jpeg?format=1000w)

Shield frames praised as favorite Rick sunglasses
I have the shield frames and I love them the most because they remind me of Yoko Ono’s Porsche frames and I love Yoko Ono & was blessed to see her perform live in 2011. I also have the silver slim ones, and the Kriester in lemon. Honestly I have about 9 pairs of sunglasses and my go to is always my ray ban wayfarer (classic version), which I guess I don’t know why I spent so much money on the other pairs of sunglasses. lol

Availability and potential sellout of kriester sunglasses
They may sell out for the season, but I strongly doubt that they’ll be gone forever. The new models of eyewear from Larry and Performa continue to be re-issued every season.
