Product Insights

Saint Laurent's Rectangular Sunglasses ($685) offer a bold angular frame with 53mm lenses that visually elongate round faces, leveraging the brand's strong design reputation. However, the core tradeoff is between premium aesthetics and non-polarized plastic lenses, with buyers reporting better lens quality from cheaper rivals like Persol and criticizing frame quality for the price. While UV protection is equivalent to UV400, the value is primarily in the Saint Laurent brand and design rather than optical performance, and secondhand authentication is complicated by fake serial codes.

Verified claims

Frame width
53mm lenses in a ~130mm wide frame suit the average adult male face.
Fit
The 19mm bridge sits on the wider side of the standard 16–20mm range, resting comfortably on average to wider noses and helping prevent the pinching that narrower bridges can cause.
Temple length
145mm temples fit most adult heads and are heat-adjustable by an optician.
Face shape suitability
Rectangular frames with wide lenses optically elongate round faces.
Lens quality
The lenses are non-polarized plastic, so these sunglasses function primarily as a fashion accessory rather than as glare-reducing eyewear.
Brand value
Saint Laurent's designer luxury status is the core appeal of this frame, while the non-polarized plastic lenses are a functional limitation.
Authenticity
Fake serial codes complicate secondhand authentication.
Authentication
Serial codes alone don't guarantee authenticity; also examine the case design and the engraved signature on the frame.
Frame geometry
Angular corners and a strong horizontal top line create contrast that defines round faces.
Lens ratio
Wider-than-tall lens ratio elongates round faces for a more oval appearance.
Polarization
The lenses on this frame are not polarized.
Use case
These sunglasses are primarily a fashion accessory rather than a choice for high-glare outdoor use.
UV protection
The product states UVA and UVB protection; UV400-level blocking is not explicitly confirmed.
Value proposition
Saint Laurent sunglasses often lack polarized lenses despite premium pricing.

  • Critique of non-polarized lenses

I understand if this is to someone else’s style, but I just don’t understand charging this much for sunglasses and then not bothering to polarize them.

  • Deal find at Nordstrom Rack

I found these glasses at the Nordstrom Rack in Southlake, Texas. While these were the only pair I could find, the store also had a pair of Persols for $67.

  • Authenticity question about cases and serial codes

Girl did you ever find out? I’m wanting some glasses that look legit they have a serial code(but I just found out the fakes now also have serial codes too smh) but the case looks like this one and it’s throwing me off bc all the real ones I have look like the first one you have too. • Saint Laurent's position among luxury brands

Saint Laurent's Kering are doing a kinda better job than Luxottica and LVMH lately, but that’s not saying much. Definitely none of those brands are worth what you’re paying for if you want too both frame quality. But if what you want is branding and design, Saint Laurent is the best option there.
