Product Insights

Acne Studios’ Face Logo Oversized Turned-Up Cuff Toque is a CAD 250, in-stock, one-size 56 cm chunky ribbed 100% wool beanie whose primary brand signifier is its oversized turned-up cuff, not its tonal face logo, which sits on the doubled warmest zone and reads at arm’s length but dissolves at conversational range—on Black and Teal it passes as plain knit. The promise is low-output cold-weather warmth: the thick rib knit grips snug with no elastane and springs back across a winter, the cuff doubles wool over ears and temples for very cold temperatures, and the RWS-certified, traceable responsible wool self-warms as it absorbs scalp moisture (about 960 kJ/kg), buffering sweat without feeling wet and insulating when damp. All four colourways—Black, Ivory/Cream Beige, Teal, Orange—are the same one size and price, with Black/Ivory as everyday neutrals and Teal/Orange as deliberate accents; authenticity shows in the straight evenly stitched face logo, clean uniform rib, woven Acne Studios label, and sewn-on embroidered patch that will not peel, underpinned by Fair Wear leader status and B Corp accountability. The tradeoff is that the same construction is tuned to hold heat for low-output cold wear rather than high-output activity: breathability is limited, the wool takes about 30% of its weight in water before feeling wet and then dries slowly, past roughly a third of its weight in water it behaves like soaked cloth, and the unlined 100% wool can be scratchy on sensitive scalps while snug wear may leave a faint forehead mark that fades after removal.

Verified claims

Understated branding
On Black and Teal, the tone-on-tone face logo reads at arm's length and dissolves at conversational range.
Logo treatment
Tone-on-tone face logo on all four colourways; on Black and Teal the toque passes as plain knit
Wardrobe role
Black and Ivory are everyday neutrals; Teal and Orange make the same toque a deliberate colour accent.
Cuff
Turned-up cuff doubles the wool over ears and temples, the toque's warmest zone.
Warmth
Chunky ribbed 100% wool knit that is thick, warm and suitable for very cold temperatures, with community feedback calling it warm and well-made.
Fit
Single 56 cm head-circumference one-size with ribbed stretch; 'oversized' refers primarily to the wide cuff, and fit reports are mixed, with some wearers noting it can run large or slouchy.
Moisture management
Wool buffers sweat without feeling wet and keeps insulating when damp.
Breathability
Tuned to hold heat for low-output cold wear, not high-output activity.
Shape retention
Rib knit springs back, so the cuff and crown hold their fit across a winter.
Wet performance
Past roughly a third of its weight in water, the wool fills and behaves like soaked cloth.
Self-warming
Wool self-warms as it absorbs scalp moisture, releasing about 960 kJ per kg
Moisture ceiling
Takes up about 30% of its weight in water before feeling wet, then dries slowly
Sizing
Offered only in ONE SIZE across every colourway, so fit cannot be traded for colour.
Silhouette
Oversized turn-up cuff, not the subtle logo, is the primary Acne Studios brand signifier.
Wear marks
Snug wear can leave a faint forehead mark that fades shortly after removal.
Colour options
All four colourways — Black, Ivory/Cream Beige, Teal and Orange — come in one size at the same CAD 250.
Itch
Unlined 100% wool with no merino, lambswool, or yak grade specified: warm and comfortable for most, but scratchy for wool-sensitive scalps.
Ribbed knit
Rib knit springs back and grips snug with no elastane, holding its shape.
Wool certification
Responsible wool is RWS-certified and traceable from farm to finished garment since early 2020.
Animal welfare
Responsible wool comes from RWS farms meeting sheep handling, nutrition and shearing standards.
Wool grade
Chunky ribbed 100% wool, not fine merino; RWS certification covers sourcing, not fibre fineness.
Brand accountability
The wool claim sits behind Fair Wear leader status and certified B Corp accountability.
Patch construction
Sewn-on embroidered patch, not a print or heat-applied transfer, so it will not peel.
Stitch density
Reduced stitch density keeps the crest soft and lets it flex with the knit.
Patch placement
Face patch sits on the doubled turned-up cuff, the warmest two-layer zone.
Authentication
No serial number — genuineness shows in even stitching, a uniform rib and correct labels.
Condition
The rib knit still grips and springs back into a taut cuff after wear.
Unisex styling
Designed as a unisex toque for both men and women.
Care
Hand wash cold with a gentle wool detergent and lay flat to dry; avoid machine washing, bleach, and high heat.
Cuff adjustability
The oversized turned-up cuff is a single continuous knit folded up at the base, so it can be unrolled for a taller, slouchier fit or folded deeper for a snugger band.
Wind resistance
The tight rib gives more wind resistance than a loose knit and wool still insulates when air moves through it, but the knit is not windproof; strong cold wind will be felt at the gaps.
Pilling and durability
Wool knits can pill lightly at friction points over a season, but a comparable Acne wool beanie showed no wear and tear after two winters of near-daily wear with proper care.

Face Logo Oversized Turned-Up Cuff Toque: Choose this if you want Acne Studios' signature look in a ribbed 100% wool toque, described by the merchant as luxurious, with an oversized turned-up cuff carrying the tone-on-tone embroidered face patch. It comes in one size and four colourways (Black, Ivory/Cream Beige, Teal, and Orange). One owner of the non-distressed version of this style reports it fits more like a typical beanie and less tight than the brand's chunky-knit face patch beanies.[1,2]Pansy Tuque: Choose this if you want a warm, designer tuque in a mostly wool blend (82% wool, 15% yak wool) with wide ribbing, an XXL unsewn cuff, and the brand's small face-motif patch on the front. It comes in one size and colorways including Black, Light Grey, Ivory/Cream Beige, and Baby Blue. Note that one wearer reported significant itchiness and a neck rash, so it may not suit sensitive skin.[3,4,5]Signature Rivet Fine-Ribbed Tuque: Choose this if you want a fine-ribbed merino wool beanie (96% wool, 3% nylon, 1% elastane) with Acne Studios' signature detail: a small branded metal rivet on the crown and a wide, unsewn, upturned cuff. One commenter who has it in hand called the quality on point and found it warm, but noted it runs really big—relevant since it comes in a single one-size fit (shown here in grey).[6,7,8,9]

Source Threads

  • Replica Acne beanie is thick, warm, and high quality

Wearing this right now. Better than any retail hat I've bought. Shit is thick and warm but not heavy or uncomfortable at all. I love it.

  • Replica beanie quality is good but sizing runs large

I have this in hand and the quality is on point for the price. It is just really big, i dont know if Acne has these models in different sizes, but for what ive seen this is bigger than the popular auth model of the beanie. Anyway its warm.

  • Fit of the non-distressed face patch beanie is like a regular beanie

I own the non-distressed version of this style (mine is 100% wool, but I think others in this style might have a blend or be in cotton?) - it fits much more like a typical beanie and less tight than the chunky-knit face patch beanies in my experience!

  • Legit check: crooked face logo and wonky stitching indicate fake

cant say for certain cause i dont have one of these but it looks a bit fake. the face is not entirely straight judging from the photo, the stitching on the size tag also looks a little wonky and the label also says ‘think climate, air garment to refresh instead of washing’, the first part of which sounds like bad google translate
