Product Insights
Obey's Stamped Graphic T-Shirt merges Soviet propaganda imagery, John Carpenter's 'They Live', and a social Rorschach test into its design, tracing back to Shepard Fairey's 1989 Andre the Giant sticker campaign. The 8 oz super-heavyweight cotton jersey, 30–50% heavier than common blanks, starts stiff but softens with washes, while pigment-dyeing produces a faded vintage look that develops lighter seams, patina, and cracked graphics over time. The core promise of a heavy, culturally loaded garment comes with tradeoffs: its anti-consumerist message is now ironic given mass commercialization, and the brand is associated with teenagers rather than skate or streetwear enthusiasts. Sizing down 1–2 sizes achieves a fitted silhouette, and colors like plum read as a dusty mauve-brown. The relaxed fit becomes more drapey after washing, accepting impermanence as part of the aesthetic.

User laments Obey's decline compared to Supreme and Stüssy
Intresting pov dude, i'm into skateboarding as well and actually thats true, have never seen anyone at the park or even skating at the streets wearing any supreme, but stüssy... Holy cow dawg. I think the same unfortunately happened to obey, still one of my favorite clothing brands but i think now they're not as great as they used to back in de day.

Critique of OBEY's commercialization and ironic meaning
Reminds me of Shepard Fairey and his OBEY campaign that started out as an experiment with propagandist imagery and methods, as a critique on meaningless capitalism, only to become filthy rich with selling that same imagery to a meaningless mass of consumers. That's the world for you.

Mixed feelings: decent quality but mainstream kid audience
It's not bad, the quality of some of their stuff is actually pretty good, and I can really appreciate Fairey's work... That being said I dislike the brand solely based on the fact that it has become the face of swaggie 12 year olds everywhere.
