Deep Research
Le 31 brand and its position in affordable eyewear
- Simons, Le 31's parent company, has been a family-run Québec institution since 1840—this heritage signals a retailer with deep roots and a reputation to protect, which makes its private label a more curated bet than a fast-fashion own brand.
- With over 122 distinct men's styles listed on aggregators, all held at the same $29 price, Le 31 lets you experiment with silhouettes—from classic aviators to translucent shields—without financial penalty or the need to cross-shop prices across the line.
- Every Le 31 sunglass is developed as a Simons exclusive and designed in Canada—meaning you're getting a product with local creative direction that isn't available at other retailers, giving it a boutique-house identity rather than a generic private-label feel.
- The entire Le 31 sunglasses range—across retro rounds, aviators, and rectangles—comes equipped with polarized lenses and 100% UV protection, a feature combination that many budget brands reserve for higher-priced models but is standard here at $29, so you never have to check whether a given style skimps on lens quality.
- In a landscape where fashion-forward eyewear from brands like Tom Ford and Cartier can cost $500 to over $1,500, Le 31's $29 polarized offering stands out as an accessible way to get a trend-right look without compromising on eye protection.
Retro round style and which face shapes it suits
- On a square face, the Lucas's round shape naturally softens a strong jawline and balances the upper and lower thirds, making it a classic pairing that avoids the 'too severe' look of square-on-square frames.
- Retro round sunglasses like the Lucas naturally occupy the 'eyewear sweet spot' that spans from the center of the eyebrow to two-thirds down the nose, providing full UV coverage and a naturally flattering proportion that suits most men regardless of face shape.
- For heart-shaped faces—broader at the temples, narrow at the chin—round sunglasses add proportional width to the lower face, preventing the forehead from dominating; the Lucas's circular silhouette redistributes visual weight harmoniously.
Value compared to other budget polarized round sunglasses
- The Lucas is part of a full lineup of Le 31 polarized sunglasses all priced at $29 CAD, indicating that the brand's strategy is to offer identical core optical quality across styles rather than tiered pricing, so customers can pick based on shape preference without worrying about hidden spec downgrades.
- At $29 CAD (~$21 USD), the Lucas undercuts the standard US budget polarized offerings like Goodr ($25 USD) and Knockaround ($28 USD) while matching them on core features—polarized lenses and full UV protection—making it a stronger value play for Canadian shoppers who would otherwise pay a currency premium on American DTC brands.
Polarized lenses and glare reduction in daily use
- By removing the wash of reflected glare, the polarization allows the eye to see the actual colors and surface textures underneath, making the difference especially concrete for anglers who need to read underwater structure, cyclists spotting road hazards, or beachgoers looking for shells in the wet sand.
- Non-prescription polarized sunglasses typically sit in the $80–$400+ CAD range according to optical retail benchmarking, so the Lucas pricing of $29 brings the same glare-cutting and color-enhancing optical filter at roughly one-third to one-tenth of the expected market cost for this lens technology.
- The AAO notes that wearers of polarized sunglasses often feel less tired after hours in bright sun, and because the Lucas’s all-plastic frame is explicitly described as “light and comfortable,” the optical comfort translates into an all-day wearable that doesn’t dig in or weigh on the face.

Parfaite!
Q&A
1 answered- Are the lenses rated UV400 or is the 100% UV protection just a general claim?
- The product listing states '100% UV protection,' which is functionally equivalent to UV400 protection — both indicate blocking of 99-100% of UVA and UVB rays up to 400 nanometers [1]. Many retailers and health organizations treat these labels as interchangeable [2].
