Product Insights

The Antoine Rectangular Sunglasses by Le 31, priced at 29 CAD and exclusive to Simons, offer embedded UV400 protection that blocks all UVA and UVB up to 400nm with explicit labeling—a feature uncommon at this price point—and align with Spring 2023 runway trends in a rectangular silhouette. However, they lack polarization, have a fixed bridge suited only for average-to-low nose bridges, and a plastic frame limited to one season of daily use, with budget hinge durability and non-polarized standard plastic lenses.

UV400 protection

UV400 protection permanently embedded, blocking all UVA and UVB up to 400nm.

Why this is supported

The Antoine's 100% UV protection corresponds to the UV400 standard, which

blocks all ultraviolet radiation up to 400 nanometers — encompassing both UVA (315-400 nm) and UVB (280-315 nm)What 100% UV protection means for your eyes — uv400_spectrum_coverage

. This protection is achieved by incorporating UV-stabilizing compounds into the lens polymer,

a process that bakes protection permanently into the materialWhat 100% UV protection means for your eyes — embedded_vs_coated_uv_protection

. The UV blocking ability is independent of lens tint, as

Lens tint darkness is unrelated to UV blocking ability because UV-absorbing additives are often colorlessWhat 100% UV protection means for your eyes — tint_vs_uv_independent_variables

. Health Canada's guidance supports this,

Health Canada's consumer sun-safety recommendations explicitly advise selecting sunglasses labeled 'UV400' or '100% UV protection' to ensure full UVA and UVB filteringWhat 100% UV protection means for your eyes — regulatory_backing_health_canada_guidance

. Thus, the Antoine's UV protection meets recognized safety standards.

Polarization

Full UV400 protection without polarization.

Why this is supported

The Antoine provides UV400 protection but lacks polarization, which

eliminates reflected glare to ease eye strain and improve visual clarity, but it does not filter UV radiationWhat 100% UV protection means for your eyes — polarization_comfort_not_protection

. For buyers needing glare reduction for activities like driving or snow sports, this is a tradeoff; however, UV safety is fully covered.

UV labeling

Explicit UV400 labeling at 29 CAD, not standard at this price point.

Why this is supported

At 29 CAD, explicit '100% UV protection' labeling is not universally guaranteed in this price tier.

The Antoine lists '100% UV protection' explicitly, which is equivalent to UV400 and is not universally guaranteed in the 29 CAD tierHow they compare to other budget rectangular sunglasses — 100_uv_protection_guarantee

. This explicit commitment builds buyer trust for those wanting reliable UV safety without researching lens specs.

Exclusivity

Exclusive to Simons, not available at other retailers.

Why this is supported

The Antoine sunglasses are exclusive to Simons and not available elsewhere. As noted:

Le 31 styles are not sold through other retailersHow they compare to other budget rectangular sunglasses — design_exclusivity
Trend alignment

Rectangular silhouette follows Spring 2023 runway trends.

Why this is supported

The Antoine's rectangular silhouette aligns with runway trends. As noted:

The strict rectangular silhouette with sharp angles mirrors the architectural eyewear trend that picked up on Spring 2023 runwaysHow they compare to other budget rectangular sunglasses — runway_aligned_geometry
Bridge fit

Fixed bridge fits average-to-low nose bridges; not adjustable for high.

Why this is supported

The Antoine's fixed bridge is

standard for all-plastic framesDoes the frame come with adjustable nose pads or a fixed bridge, and is it suitable for high nose bridges?

at the $29 price point. The Q&A confirms that

the one-size design may still fit many wearers comfortablyDoes the frame come with adjustable nose pads or a fixed bridge, and is it suitable for high nose bridges?

, but the lack of adjustable nose pads makes it

less suitable for high nose bridgesDoes the frame come with adjustable nose pads or a fixed bridge, and is it suitable for high nose bridges?

So this design suits average to low nose bridges best.

Frame durability

Plastic frame is limited to one season of daily use.

Why this is supported

The frame is injection-molded from polycarbonate or nylon composite, which

loses shape retention over time and can eventually develop stress fractures around metal hardwareWhat lightweight plastic means for day-to-day use — polycarbonate_or_nylon_composite

. Without a protective coating,

. Additionally, the hinge screws directly into the plastic, so

over-tightening or a single hard drop can strip the hole, leaving the arm permanently looseWhat lightweight plastic means for day-to-day use — hinge_to_temple_stress_concentration

. This positions the frame as a seasonal accessory.

UV protection

Embedded UV protection remains effective for the frame's lifespan.

Why this is supported

The UV protection is embedded in the lens polymer and, as stated,

remains durable for the life of the frame. What 100% UV protection means for your eyes — embedded_vs_coated_uv_protection
Build & Comfort

Comfortable lightweight frame, fixed bridge, budget hinge durability.

Why this is supported

The lightweight plastic frame is

materials chosen for low weight, decent flexibility, and high impact resistance that can survive drops better than acetateWhat lightweight plastic means for day-to-day use — polycarbonate_or_nylon_composite

, providing all-day comfort. The fixed bridge is standard for the tier and may be less comfortable for higher nose bridges. In terms of durability,

the repeated torque of opening and closing concentrates stress at the plastic threads—over-tightening or a single hard drop can strip the hole, leaving the arm permanently loose, making this by far the most common failure point ahead of a full frame break. What lightweight plastic means for day-to-day use — hinge_to_temple_stress_concentration
Lens Features

Non-polarized lenses with standard plastic; UV protection is full spectrum.

Why this is supported

The lenses are not polarized;

the Antoine's lack of a polarized layer sacrifices glare reduction while retaining complete UV400 safetyWhat 100% UV protection means for your eyes — polarization_comfort_not_protection

. The lens material is likely standard plastic, as is common at this price point, but the exact composition is not specified.

Perfect Summer Shades for Cheap

Wyatt M.

I love simons sunglasses, great shapes, quality is pretty nice for the low price and I can always grab a pair or two for the beach and not worry about scratches.

Too big for me

Sharanya U.

Very well made product. Unfortunately, didn’t work on my face…it was a bit overwhelming for my softer rounder features. Anyone with a more angular face should give it a go. The frame is thicker than most others but looks really cool if you’re into that style.
