Simons Maison
Braided Natural Straw Placemat
This round placemat is a Simons Maison exclusive designed in Canada, made from natural braided straw with a dry, matte finish and a distinct concentric braided pattern. With a 15-inch (38 cm) diameter, it functions as a table setting accessory to protect surfaces from heat or spills while adding natural texture. Care is limited to wiping clean with a damp cloth.

Product Insights
This natural straw placemat offers a unique handwoven look with slight color variations and minimal shedding, but requires careful handling: it cannot withstand direct heat (use a trivet), stains permanently from spills like coffee or red wine if not wiped immediately, and is strictly for indoor use to avoid mold and warping from moisture; a wipe-clean approach protects its developing patina.
Verified claims
- Heat tolerance
- Natural straw tolerates heat only up to about 60–80°C; direct contact with hot pots or pans can scorch or damage the fibers, so use a trivet or hot pad.
- Stain resistance
- Straw is porous and can stain permanently if spills like coffee or red wine are left to soak in; prompt wiping with a damp cloth helps prevent most staining, but prolonged contact may leave marks.
- Moisture sensitivity
- Best suited to indoor use and not recommended for uncovered patio tables; natural straw absorbs moisture and can develop mold or warp if exposed to rain or humidity.
- Shedding
- Some initial shedding of loose straw fibers is possible; the edges are finished to help prevent unraveling, though buyers have reported loose straw fragments and debris.
- Color variation
- Each handwoven straw placemat has slight tonal variations, making it unique.
- Patina
- Wipe-clean-only care protects the developing patina.
- Cleaning
- Clean this straw placemat by wiping it with a damp cloth only; avoid soaps, oils, and abrasives, which can strip or alter the unsealed straw.
- Color accuracy
- Several buyers report the placemats look lighter or paler in person than in product photos, sometimes a pale yellow rather than the honey brown shown.
- Texture
- Several buyers find the straw texture rough or prickly, with some saying it is uncomfortable under bare arms during meals.

Neutral base for styled table settings
Reviewers describe this round, flat braided straw placemat as a neutral anchor for mixed dinnerware, with its pale straw hue complementing almost any color palette — a look that suits frequent entertainers and casual boho table styling. Because the straw can't be washed or wiped clean and spills can become permanent, reviewers say it works best as a decorative layer used with placemats or overlays for protection, and in dry conditions since moisture can darken it. Note that the actual color often arrives lighter and more yellow-tinged than product photos, which some say can clash with rich wood tables or darker dinnerware.[1,2]
Sunny patio table settings on dry days
Reviewers say this straw placemat's summery look shines on patios for alfresco dining in fair weather. It's best kept for dry, supervised use, since reviewers caution that rain or high humidity can permanently darken the straw, and spills can't be wiped clean.[1]
A natural base for centerpieces and seasonal decor
Shoppers use this round braided straw placemat as an underlay for centerpieces, framing floral arrangements or seasonal decor with its rustic texture. Its natural, warm look with an imperfect, handmade feel adds texture without overpowering what's displayed on it. Some also use it as a base for plants or as a giftable home accent.[1]

| Braided Natural Straw Placemat: Choose this for casual boho or natural-texture table styling: its handwoven braided straw look and pale hue work as a neutral anchor for mixed dinnerware, a centerpiece underlay, or even plant coasters, in a 15 inches (38 cm) round. It suits fairly tidy, decorative use — reviewers note it can't be washed or effectively wiped, so liquids and food stains become permanent, and the straw sheds and feels rough or prickly to some. Expect the actual color to often arrive lighter and more yellow-tinged than the photos, and keep it dry, since rain or high humidity can permanently darken the straw.[1] | Rectangular Cotton-Jute Blend Placemat: Choose this if you want a natural, chunky-textured placemat in the Patterned Ecru colorway: it is woven from 85% jute and 15% cotton, measures 13 by 19.75 inches (33 x 50 cm), and per Simons has a refined bohemian chic look with a speckled beige-and-cream weave and fringed, looped-braid edges. Care is wipe-clean only with a damp cloth, so it suits dry, light-use settings rather than messy meals. Note that the product images show small loose fiber ends and frays along the weave and edge, which is typical of this coarse, nubby texture.[3,4,5] | Monochrome Braided Placemats Set Of 4: Choose this if you want easy-care, round braided placemats for everyday family meals, outdoor dining, or seasonal tablescaping: the set of 4 comes in a 15 inch (38 cm) diameter with a tightly braided concentric spiral design in several hues, wipes clean with a damp cloth, stores flat without creasing, and is made of 85% recycled polypropylene and 15% polyester. Keep hot dishes off the surface or use a trivet, since heat from freshly plated food can permanently warp the braided edge, and small plates may wobble on the textured weave; note the actual shade can skew darker or grayer than photos, especially in stone and green.[6,7,8] |

Nice quality but color off
These arrived looking like a very pale yellow color instead of the honey brown color in the photo. Unfortunately the color really clashed with the rest of the table setting so I ordered different ones and will be returning these.

Joli mais pas pratique
Très déçue de la texture. Il y a plein de petits bouts piquants, très inconfortable sous les bras au repas. En plus, je crains que ça tire des fils de la nappe. Assez epais pour protéger la table des plats chauds.

Simple and rustic
Great for use under a centerpiece on my table.
Ils sont remplis de sable!
Juste en enlevant les étiquettes, ils ont laissé la table remplie de déchets de paille et de sable abîmant la surface de celle-ci
Too raw
The placemats that arrived were different from the picture. They were more white with many imperfections. I will be returning these.
Cottage core look
Just perfect for a touch of cottage decor on my table.
Achat renouvelé
J’avais acheté ces napperons l’an dernier. Rehausse la table et la déco extérieure (par contre retirer en cas de pluie, sinon ils vont noircir).
