Product Insights
The Storyboard Colourful Magnetic Board by Mustard is an in-stock, 199 CAD, one-size 33.5 x 21 in powder-coated steel board whose squared, deep 5 cm box silhouette is built as part of the same furniture family as Mustard's steel lockers and can mount vertically or horizontally, swapping width for height while hanging on the top two of four keyhole slots over screw heads no larger than 8 mm; it weighs 3.6 kg and includes a full-scale paper stencil mapping those four mounting points. Its smooth, thin powder coat resists scratches, stains and ghosting, cleans with a dry microfiber cloth, degrades with bleach or solvents, preserves most of a magnet's grip, and supports layered paper via strong button magnets, while the five colors—neutral Slate Grey and White plus pigmented Mint, Ochre and Red—are handpicked to outlast trends, coordinate with Mustard pieces bought years apart, and are in stock at a flat 199 CAD with no premium for bold shades and no discounts; Slate Grey is a blue-hued charcoal rather than black and pairs with lighter Mustard shades. The main tradeoff is that no magnets are included and vertical holding is reduced: on a wall magnets carry only 15-30% of rated pull before sliding, a 20 lb-rated magnet may hold just 3-6 lb before creeping, pinned notes creep or peel before they fall, and a single lifted corner can peel a magnet off, so the board is best paired with rubber-jacketed, steel-cup pot or strong neodymium magnets rather than cheap ceramic, pressed flat and slid rather than tugged; some customers also report colors appearing duller in person than online.
Verified claims
- Magnet strength
- On a vertical wall, magnets carry only 15-30% of their rated pull before sliding.
- Peel
- A single lifted corner peels a magnet off, so press them flat and slide rather than tug.
- Magnet selection
- No magnets are included — pot or rubber-jacketed magnets hold best on the vertical face.
- Shear holding
- Mounted vertically, a 20 lb-rated magnet holds only about 3-6 lb before creeping.
- Care
- Clean with a dry microfiber cloth; bleach and solvent cleaners degrade the finish.
- Installation
- Weighs 3.6 kg and includes a paper stencil that maps the four keyhole mounting points at full scale; the board hangs on the top two screws, and screw heads must be no larger than 8 mm.
- Color palette
- Five colors (Slate Grey, White, Mint, Ochre, Red) suit tonal and accent decor.
- Color accuracy
- Colours are reverse-engineered by eye for powder coating, so each shade reads as a powdery, bespoke hue rather than a saturated Pantone match; some customers still report the shades look duller in person than in online photos.
- Mounting
- Four keyhole slots, but the board hangs on the top two screws — heads no larger than 8 mm.
- Proportion
- Mounts vertically or horizontally; the 33.5 × 21 in footprint swaps width for height when rotated, giving one large display area for lots of photos and notes, and the panel projects about 2 in (5 cm) from the wall.
- Colour pricing
- All five colours are in stock at the same 199 CAD and come in one size only.
- Colour vibrancy
- The palette splits into two neutrals (Slate Grey, White) and three pigmented statement shades (Mint, Red, Ochre), giving the board a bold, lively colour range.
- Slate Grey
- Slate Grey is a blue-hued dark grey, not black, built for muted or industrial rooms.
- Finish
- Powder-coated steel with a smooth, thin coat resistant to scratches, stains and ghosting.
- Layering
- Strong button magnets hold multiple layers of paper securely.
- Magnets
- No magnets ship in the box; strong neodymium or pot magnets hold far better than cheap ceramic ones.
- Holding force
- The smooth powder coat preserves most of a magnet's grip; magnet-held notes creep or peel before they fall.
- Palette pairing
- Reads as one coordinated scheme beside Mustard pieces bought years apart
- Slate pairing
- Slate is a blue-hued charcoal that pairs with lighter Mustard shades
- Colour permanence
- Every shade is handpicked to outlast trends, not chase Pantone or seasonal drops.
- Design
- Squared, deep box silhouette that matches Mustard's steel lockers as one furniture family.
- Powder-coat durability
- The powder-coated steel surface is scratch, stain, and ghost resistant, so it stays sharp through years of sliding and repositioning magnets.
- Pin-free display
- Pushpins are not the intended use — the powder-coated steel surface is designed around magnets, so it works as a pin-free magnetic photo and note display.
